Advent

Inspiration

Students lead busy lifestyles and usually live from assignment to assignment. Amid this they are expected to juggle other activities. One of these activities involves checking their mails. It can be a boring and monotonous process but, sometimes it may also contain mails that may be of interest to the student such as mails regarding different events taking place on the campus. It is, however, very easy to lose track of such events as they are usually sandwiched between other important mails and may be left out. This may also result in the loss of valuable opportunities which would not have been the case otherwise which may cause mental agony over the missed opportunities.

What it does

Advent is a revolutionary tool which aims to solve all the problems listed above by bringing together events from all the clubs into one centralized place. It will consist of two views, an admin view and a student one as well. Students will be able to take part in and view all the events along with being able to view them on their calendar. Admins will be able to monitor, create and delete events.

How we built it

Advent was built using a MERN stack. MongoDB was used for the database. We also used Express for dynamic routing.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into quite a few issues. Given the time constraints of the hackathon and the scope of our project, making sure that we completed milestones on time was definitely one challenge. The overall alignment of objects and making everything was the right font was definitely another challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team we managed to built a app that we are genuinely proud of. Being from different cultural backgrounds and having different technical capabilities, we managed to complement each others' skills and also support each other when needed.

What we learned

It was different for all of us. Some us came out of the event having learnt certain processes. Brainstorming ideas and following a standard approach to coming up with solutions and building upon them was certainly another. Better communication skills and networking abilities was certainly another.
