Inspiration
We kept thinking, how can we help in a technological way? And ultimately we thought about the shelters and how some of them are overflowing with pets and how difficult it must be to keep track of the different profiles, and also the profiles of the possible adoptees, and also have all this information to see if they're a viable option, like if they have a yard, kids, allergies and such.
What it does
It's a data center for shelters, and aspirant adoptees, the shelters can upload all the relevant information of the pets, and also the adoptees can create sort of a profile where they can put what they are interested and the quality of life the pet can hope in their forever home, then they can browse the available pets and place in a request to adopt, where a worker of the shelter can check and see if they have the resources to have a pet.
How we built it
Using git each member of the team created some part of the system, first we made a model for the database, and then we moved onto mockups to later make the frontend of the page, then we moved back to the backend where we connected the database to the page and tweak some things into place.
Challenges we ran into
Of course since this was made in such a short time the problem we had was time, we all have a life outside of this, but still we came together to create this base project to help the administration of shelters have more neat organizing of the pets.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We really like the interface of the project, we think it's actually it's really intuitive and easy to follow for new users.
What we learned
We learned how to control databases and make a system for organizing, in which we learned how to structure it and make it easy for new costumers and people not accustomed to the site.
What's next for Adoption Manager
There still were some room for improvement in the system, the next viable step maybe would be for adopters to place the wish of adoption online instead of having to go to the shelter.
