Inspiration

Walking home from school has been scary for the both of us. On the highway, as you bike, you race so close to the road that you can feel the wind rush by you, narrowly crashing into you. We hope to mitigate these troubles through the addition of various green, pedestrian, safe, spaces so that citygoers dont need to worry about the dangers of the road.

What it does

We designed a series of elevated platforms, mainly bridges, to provide a better usage of a limited amount of land by creating a greater surface area, allowing more space efficacy. This allows pedestrians to cross through otherwise busy and dangerous areas.

How we built it

One first idea is connecting it onto already designed bridges, which expand the pedestrian sidewalk to create more distance between the high speed traffic and pedestrians. In higher foot traffic areas, a whole new bridge section can be created in order to mitigate excessive packing of people. All of these areas will be landscaped to create a more inviting atmosphere alongside the impacts of green spaces on air quality.

Challenges we ran into

Desigining the bridges to accomodate so many people was a challenge, we used extra support beams and filled in columns to provide more support. Landscpaing such a small area was also hard as there would be sparse dirt.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Workshopping the idea allowed us to choose the iteration we were most proud of.
