Inspiration

Our project was inspired by a personal experience. When I first arrived in Canada, I thought that speaking English fluently would be enough to make friends and integrate into the community. However, I soon realized that accent bias was an unseen barrier. It's a bias that often goes unaddressed, and without acknowledging it, there are no solutions to overcome it.

What it does

Our program compares a sentence you speak to a pre-trained AI model and assesses how closely your pronunciation matches that of a native speaker. If your speech doesn’t closely resemble a native speaker's, the program suggests areas to practice.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we encountered was that, after completing most of the project, we realized that the CSS and animations were interfering with the AI model, preventing us from capturing the data properly.
