LehighHacks 2016 Social Apps Challenge 4Blocks TASTES Platform Proposal

Problem Analysis

A noticeable issue within the South Side of Bethlehem is the lack of awareness of many businesses in that area, particularly Lehigh students. In order to promote these businesses a website called 4Blocks was created, however many of these businesses lack the ability to create a strong, appealing, website. There is a desire for a more user-friendly, easy, and efficient method of creating an appealing and easily accessible website or app to attract more customers within the area.

Implementations

We decided to tackle the problem of local restaurants in South Bethlehem struggling within their market to thrive. To solve this problem, we have decided to given them a platform to input their information into our database and select a layout for their content to be displayed on a well-designed web page within our application. The layouts are made specifically with restaurants in mind and do not require many modifications. Our goal is to create a beautiful interface where users can see the information of Bethlehem restaurants. There is an issue of many restaurant websites on the internet having poor designs. These pages often hurt the business because of the poor marketing designs. Restaurants can now see their menus and contact information being displayed in a way that is appealing to their local market. Lehigh students will have this technology easily accessible to them and will find many benefits in using our application. The homepage displays a clear and concise list of local restaurants. This list (of logo icons) connects directly to the restaurant's’ profiles or web pages. Their pages have contact information -- including address, phone, and email -- hours of business, and a menu in a clear format for users to obtain. This application also allows for restaurants to become better associated with the community. They would be more connected through social media and will be seen as a high contributors within the Bethlehem community.

Next Step

Landing Website Integration: The team will be focus on integrating the 4Blocks TASTES platform to the current 4Blocks landing website. As the prototype web page shown below, when users hover over the “World Tastes & Rhythms” category, the pop-down menu will show “4Blocks TASTES”. By clicking on the “4Blocks TASTES”, users can get to 4Blocks TASTES platform’s home page.

Marketing Content Expansion: part of the next steps, the team will be also further working on providing more features or contents for restaurant owner users, to learn how to market their business. For examples, we can have marketing strategy daily email or weekly newsletter for owners to learn how to attach more customers by using social media. Our platform will provide the features to link to social media in the future development process.

Marketing Feature Development: as mentioned in the last point, restaurant users should expect to using the platform and social media integratedly. Furthermore, students or customers user will also be able to give comments and communication with restaurant by using social media.
