Dona Trust
Delete Distance. Hack Barriers. Control Trust.
Inspiration
The team at JSZ-Research realized that in traditional charity, trust is often a promise, not a guarantee. With 34 million children living with hearing loss and over 10% of the population in extreme poverty, we noticed a recurring failure: Opaque ledgers and centralized control.
We asked ourselves: What if trust wasn't assumed, but cryptographically enforced? Instead of another donation website, we wanted to re-engineer trust itself. DonaTrust was born from the need to move charity from emotional hope to mathematical certainty.
What it does
DonaTrust is a decentralized ecosystem built on the Solana network that bridges the gap between technology and humanity. It acts as an end-to-end transparency machine:
- Immutable On-Chain Ledger: Every cent is tracked from the donor’s wallet to the final beneficiary. No intermediaries, zero fee-leaks, and 100% verifiability.
- Sign Language AI Engine: A real-time gesture recognition system that gives a voice of gratitude to children with hearing loss.
- AI-Powered Multilingual Education: A voice-synthesis pipeline that breaks language barriers, translating English educational content into local dialects (like French) for remote regions.
- Visual Trust Flow: An interactive dashboard that visualizes complex blockchain transactions into a simple, narrative-driven interface.
How we built it
The project is architected into three independent but integrated layers, spearheaded by the JSZ-Research core team:
1. The Blockchain Layer (Solana & Rust)
We chose Solana for its high throughput and near-zero transaction fees.
- Implemented Smart Contract logic to record immutable donation flows.
- Integrated Phantom Wallet for secure user onboarding.
- Built a Live Ledger UI that queries on-chain data to show the "Journey of a Dollar" in real-time.
2. The AI Engine (Computer Vision & NLP)
- OpenCV & ML: Used OpenCV for real-time video frame processing and custom-trained models for sign language gesture recognition.
- EchoTrans Pipeline: Integrated AI voice synthesis (inspired by tools like ElevenLabs) to handle multilingual voice-to-voice and text-to-voice translation for global accessibility.
3. Frontend & UX Integration
- Built a high-performance animated portal that abstracts away blockchain complexity.
- Designed a modular architecture so gesture libraries and language sets can be scaled effortlessly.
Challenges we faced
- Blockchain UX: Simplifying decentralized wallets and SOL transactions for non-crypto-native users was a constant balancing act.
- Model Constraints: Real-time sign language recognition requires high compute; we had to optimize our models for low-latency performance within server limitations.
- Data Integrity: Maintaining 100% transparency on the ledger while protecting the privacy of sensitive beneficiaries required thoughtful architectural decisions.
What we learned
- Decentralization is the ultimate trust-builder: When donors can verify the ledger themselves, their emotional confidence shifts into mathematical certainty.
- Accessibility is Multidimensional: Solving education inequality isn't just about money; it's about hacking through language, disability, and infrastructure barriers.
- UX is the Bridge: Blockchain transparency means nothing if the user can't visualize it. The interface is just as important as the smart contract.
