01Piggy

Inspiration

Kids (as kids do), are very much unknown to the financial world, and tend to spend money purely on emotion and tend to ruin theirs (and sometimes their parents') finances. No one wants to see a $5000 charge on your account for Robux right?

This is ultimately due to their lack of financial literacy, and lack of safety precautions from their parents, and we are here to help fix it! We present 01Piggy! The digitalized piggy bank that helps with children's financial literacy and giving them an account to use while giving parents peace of mind with their money!

What it does

01Piggy lets parents allocate a portion of an account for their kids to be able to use. This acts as a digital piggy bank for the kids while preventing them from over spending. We also use AI assistants and spending summaries, so kids and parents can learn how to manage their money.

How we built it

We subdivided our team into front end and back end development. The front end team developed a simplistic and easy to use UI using Next.js, React, and Tailwind. The back end team used Pinata to manage our data. They then used Bun.js and OpenAI API to integrate our AI assistants.

Challenges we ran into

Our team was new to Pinata, so it was a large learning curve for us. We also decided to avoid using any other database which was challenging. We also had some issue integrating our AI assistants into our website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team was very proud of our AI integrations. We have an angle and devil AI to give you the pros and cons of any purchase. We also have a chatbot to help teach kids and their parents about managing their finances.

What we learned

We of course learned a lot about Pinata and OpenAI API. Our team was very inexperienced with both, and we all gained a lot of knowledge. We also got hands on experience with full stack development and working in a team.

What's next for 01Piggy

We hope to create 01Piggy interaction in the real world via physical cards to make it easier for kids to make a purchase and further teach them financial responsibility. We also planned on making a mobile app, so kids can truly have their piggy bank everywhere. We also discussed the possiblity of having kids learn to invest through 01Piggy.
