Ficlet Post - Best Christmas - Gile/Lilah - PG

Title: Best Christmas
Pairing: Lilah/Giles
Rating: Soft PG
Word Count: Around 500
Summary: A little h/c on Christmas between my favorite dysfunctional couple.
AN: After whining to Lara about not being able to write a ‘fluffy Christmas piece’, this is what my muse gave me. I think it works rather nicely for them. *snugs Lara for putting up with the whining*

They’d decided, without saying the words, there wouldn’t be a tree that year. No annoying lights that blinked to the tune of ‘Jingle Bells’ and no animated snowmen that danced around on one’s coffee table. Carolers weren’t to darken the door of their penthouse and the neighbors knew not to bring them Christmas cookies.

It was just another day in their lives.

Almost.

After all, they weren’t complete scrooges.

Both had decided to find the perfect gift for the other. Nothing they’d find at the local Wal-Mart or one of those annoying shopping networks. Calls were made, favors were cashed in, and both knew they’d found the perfect gift.

The plan was to exchange them during breakfast without making a fuss.

Of course, even the best laid plans didn’t always work.

It all started when she started to sneeze during the Christmas Eve party. As the night progressed, so did redness of her nose and the puffiness of her eyes. When the fever set in, and she started to flirt with a T’Leck demon, he knew it was time to take her home.

When they arrived home, Lilah had taken to pouting, which amused Giles. To see the woman, who could make demons beg for mercy, looking at him with her bottom lip sticking out was something he’d never forget.

Lilah begged him to use magic to cure her, and when Giles told her even magic couldn’t cure the common cold, she told him to leave. He didn’t though. Instead, he stayed up all night with her, dabbing her forehead with a cool cloth as she slept the fever off.

When morning came, he found her on the sofa, a small box clenched in her hands. After sitting up, she handed the box to him with a shrug.

“Merry Christmas…I guess,” Lilah muttered before seeking refuge inside of her blanket again.

Giles stood from the sofa and went to get the gift he’d gotten for her. Once the gifts had been exchanged, they were opened. She had gotten Giles the cufflinks he’d been eyeing, while he’d gotten Lilah the bracelet she pretended she didn’t want when she saw someone else wearing one at a party.

They both thanked the other, and exchanged a look only they knew the meaning of. Then, without any sort of warning, Giles found himself with an armful of Lilah as she snuggled against him and pulled the blanket over her shivering body.

And, as they laid there, tangled with each other, they knew what the other felt. What had begun as ‘just sex’ had spiraled into something they could call love. Both knew there would probably never be any spoken words of love, and never would they spend an entire day snuggling again.

But, it didn’t matter.

It was the best Christmas either of them had ever had.
