Setting up an email address in Mac Mail is quick and simple. Here is a step-by-step tutorial (with screenshots!) of how to do so:
To complete this, you’ll need your email address, password, and both your incoming and outgoing mail servers. If you’re a client of {DEVADiGM} or one of our partners, this information should have been emailed to you at your existing email address. If you haven’t received it, please email us.
(These instructions are from Mac Mail v10.1. Other versions are similar but may appear different than the screen shots)
Here’s how to setup your new email address in Mac Mail:
- Open Mac Mail on your desired device
- Click on ‘Mail’ and then ‘Add Account’

- Choose ‘Other Mail Account’

- Enter your name (As you want it to appear in peoples inboxes), email address, and password and click ‘Sign in’.

- For now, ignore the error, “Unable to verify account name or password”.
- The email address and password should be filled in already. Add the user name, which is your email address.
- Account Type:
- Pop3 – Keeps email clients separate. Deleting email in Mac Mail will not delete it from webmail, phone, etc.
- IMAP – Controls email on the server so actions taken on one device spread across all devices.
- When using IMAP, moving an email to another folder or deleting it in Mac Mail results in the same action happening on any other connected devices such as your smartphone and also webmail.

- Click ‘Sign in’
- You’ll see a message: “Mail can’t verify the identity of the server”. Click on ‘Show Certificate’ and then change the dropdown to “Always Trust”.
- Click Continue

- Select the apps you want to use with the account and click ‘Done’.
