Vicki and I are here at the ILEETA Convention (International Law-Enforcement Educators’ and Trainers’ Association) in St Louis, all this week.
As always, many wonderful on-site classes, lecture and live-fire, as well as an extensive vendor area.
I am not teaching this time, but Vicki is!
Some notes:
EOTech is now producing a pistol optic (open-emitter), along with an extensive line of LPVOs
The vast majority of pistols on display were optic-equipped!
The new Taser-10 can launch ten cartridges in rapid succession, all without reloading. However, cartridges are now powered (in-part) by a black-powder primer. Thus, the Taser-10 is technically a “firearm,” and is accordingly regulated by ATF, just as is any other firearm. So, there is currently a lobbying effort at the federal level to create a new classification, called “Less Lethal,” which would be essentially unregulated, as are all previous (gas-powered) editions of the Taser.
Both Milo and Axon (formally TI) had their latest editions of VR and projected-screen simulators on display. In both cases, resolution and freedom of movement are much improved. Milo now has a “Haptic Vest,” which when worn by the student, will simulate bullet impacts (into a simulated ballistic garment). Both manufacturers are rapidly incorporating AI into their simulators, which will eventually provide each scenario with essentially an infinite number of outcomes.
In lecture classes I’ve attended so far, many instructors have expressed concern that left-leaning political entities (ACLU, PERF, IACP) are actively lobbying politicians and prosecutors to immediately revamp PD UOF policies (which some prosecutors try to enforce as “law”) that require not just “reasonable” actions on the part of LEOs, but incontrovertibly perfect actions, plus unfailing clairvoyance. Absolute perfect solutions to every tactical situation, and of course perfect outcomes. “Bad outcomes” are thus always assumed to be the result of criminal conduct on the part of individual LEOs. Officers who fail these humanly impossible “standards” have been, and are, casually thrown in prison by Soros-backed DAs, with the fawning approval of Democrat governors and mayors, particularly in IL, MN, CA, NY, NJ, et al.
As a result, PD staffing (particularly in blue states) is way down and going lower. Recruitment is all but impossible, and officers are leaving their departments, and the profession, in record numbers!
More later.
