Writer's Block: Are you afraid of the dark?

When was the last time you were frightened out of your wits? Spooky stories welcome!
September 2004. First night I spent in my Mom's a new apartment. Did not sleep the entire night - some nameless fear had me the entire night, so bad that I was too scared to even stretch my arms or legs out of my body space or even turn my head.  Had to force myself to get out of bed with my eyes squeezed tight and fumble/feel my way to the light switch. Not that having the lights on helped. The rest of the apartment was good - just that one room.
Later the next day, after I had already told my mom about the night's events, I was out the whole day visiting old friends. On my return Mom had another bit to add:  apparently what I told her shook her up. So she went about the house praying and salting the doors and windows with a canister of blessed salt. On entering the bedroom I had spent the night in all the hair on her skin stood on end and she too underwent such deep fear that her throat literally closed up. She had to consciously force herself to entering the room and completing the procedure. As she said: I don't know how you stayed in that room the whole night!

Needless to say, I spent the rest of my vacation nights on the divan in the hall...
Yeesh! I still get locked jaws just thinking of that night
