The Virgin Suicides tutorial (and my very first one at that!)

Involves: curves, selective color, channel mixer & levels layers.
Made in PS CS3.

In this tutorial, we want to get rid of the overload of blue in this particular image (credit: screenmusings.) This method works great on most overly blue caps, but you might want to fiddle around with the values and opacities of each layer, according to the image you're using. That being said, let's get on with it!

1. Crop, resize and, if you prefer to do this before colouring, sharpen your base. I usually sharpen after I've added all my colour layers, because as you play around with the contrasts in icons, they tend to look sharper and the icon itself will need less sharpening. Like I said, whichever you prefer :)

2. Make a new curves layer.

RGB
Point 1: I: 23, O: 16
Point 2: I: 45, O: 65

Red
I: 178, O: 205

Blue
Point 1: I: 53, O: 17
Point 2: I: 128, O: 71
Point 3: I: 222, O: 184

3. Create a new selective color layer, method: relative.

Reds: -52, 0, +34, 100
Neutrals: -5, +1, +5, -5

4. Create a new channel mixer layer.

Red: 115, -15, 0
Blue: -15, +8, 100

5. Make a new brightness/contrast layer and up the contrast by 20.

6. Finally, create a new levels layer.

RGB: 13, 1,20, 255

And you're done!

How do I join?

Click here. To see all the updates on your friends page, you might want to friend this community as well. Of course you don't have to join, but it's a lot easier to keep track of the updates if you do.

How do I credit?

To credit icons, just do as follows:

Any other graphics should either be credited in your profile or your sidebar, links list, resources page, etc.

Do I really have to credit?

It's not as if I have any way of knowing if you don't, since I have no time to track down everybody's lj's, but I'd appreciate it if you do. That way it's easier for people to find where you got the icon from in case they like it, and it's a nice compliment to me as well. ~~Ego, me?~~

How do I navigate through the site?

The easiest way to find what you're looking for would be by searching through the tags.

How do I request a particular icon?

I won't be taking any requests for now, since this is a brand new community and I want to see how things work out before I focus on the next step. You can always post images you'd like to see iconized in the suggestions though. I'll do my very best to help you wherever I can.

Can I alter the icons I find here?

The standard answer is no, you can't, but I'm not too snobby to make an exception; just drop a comment in the suggestion entry and I'll definitely consider it.
