--- the United States government averted the Fiscal Cliff crisis by taking more money out of every single American's paycheck, continually from this day forward, while keeping the Bush tax cuts and excluding the rich people from paying anymore money than they ever did before.

Does that seem okay to everybody?

I saw the Disney/Pixar movie Bolt a long time ago. There's a character in it named Blake but I can't remember who he was. Looked it up online but every search just says there's a Blake in the film without saying who it is, what he does.

Who is Blake?

For those who were here last time, the young man in the expensive suit seems much less tense than he was before. He's tapping on a handheld touchscreen device as he enters the Nexus, then casually stows it in his pocket.

"It's my duty to plan a memorial for my late father. I do not wish to spend a great deal of money on it, but it still must look good for the inevitable media circus. I would be open to any suggestions for designs or ceremonies that might be appropriate."

((Dreamwidth thread here))

It’s been a while since Telrim’s had time for anything but business. But there must have been a lull back home, because once again there’s a Controller in the Nexus, quietly watching the people around her. As always the Yeerk is privately sizing them up – hosts, threats, interesting specimens - but her eyes follow the human-looking ones in particular.

She lifts her voice to ask clearly, “How much stock do you place in rumour?”

Clark rarely looks as tired as he does now. Not a physical exhaustion but a mental and emotional one. And usually there's very few reasons for that.

He's quiet for a long few moments. Then he looks up, face carefully blank. "How do you honor a fallen friend?"

He hesitates, and then adds, "And how would you deal with having been the one to send him to his death?"

((dreamwidth thread here))

There's a shark in the Nexus.

Not just any shark, though. This shark is easily over a hundred feet in length, floating in midair as if in water, tail and fins moving subtly. His skin, covered in a tracery of scars, is bleached-ivory white; the eyes, though, are the same dead, flat black of any shark's; he's not an albino, just white. It is entirely possible that the passage of time has simply leeched the colour out of him, if ever he were otherwise. His jaws work faintly as he gazes around himself, impassive. If this is the Heart of the Sea wizards speak of, it is a passing strange one; certainly it does not look like any of the many descriptions he has heard over the years, from various wizards attempting to convince him of its existence.

The giant billboard in its garish colours means nothing; he is a shark, after all, no-matter how intelligent, and human writing is incomprehensible to him. But he can... hear. For the first time, he hears something else wizards have long tried to make him understand, not so much a voice in the back of his mind as a sudden understanding that might have come from the air: Ask a question.

The Master Shark has never been one to ask or care for the opinions of others, but he's already died today, a small measure further strayed from the path is hardly that great a thing, considering.

'They say...' he uses the Speech when he speaks, which any who listen will hear as their own native tongue, 'that change is... healthy.'

The shark's tone is flat, almost emotionless save for the faint flavour of irony lurking under the words. 'I have lived ten thousand lifetimes of the lesser orders and never did I see any true change, until today. And now here I am. Out of my depth.' The monotone does not waver, nor does his expression, but there is the sense, somehow, in his speech, that if he had eyebrows, one would be slightly lifted.

'What think you, O... Nexus, if that is the name of this place.'

The program standing in the Nexus looks completely unfazed by his sudden appearance here, his expression impassive behind the black sunglasses. He turns his head slowly, looking around. Gears - metaphorical of course, his functions are much more complicated than simple gears - turn in his head.

As a precaution, he takes off his earpiece before asking his question. "Tell me, Multiverse, how much does one owe one's creator? Should one choose duty over . . . " He pauses to give a smug little half smirk, " . . . self?"

It's been a pretty long while since Yugi and Yami were last in the Nexus. Between school and... other happenings (which are the subject of Yugi's question today), they haven't been able to find the time to come in and visit. Now, however, things are in a bit of a lull, so here they are, looking a bit more... weathered than when they were last here.

Oh, Yami also has something new with him: a thin, straight-bladed sword with an Egyptian hilt design belted to his waist.

"So," Yugi says after a moment, "I had an interesting New Year's. Which brings me to my question: How would you react if you got press-ganged into saving the world with a group of complete strangers?"

((OOC: For them, it's still mid-January, which is when I should've posted this. >_> After I wrap up threads on this post they'll be accellerated to the current time of year.))

An important question has returned April to this area of the Nexus. She seems a little nervous, but generally happy. And she finds a place to sit down, before posing her question.

"This might sounds like a strange request... but I am looking for a doctor.
So bring your favorite lady...

Néo and Pippi are dressed for spring, by the standards of their world. Which is to say, they're wearing sandals and sun hats and carrying small purses, but are otherwise in their natural splendor.

Néo seems to be nerving hirself to ask the requisite question, a process of several minutes' duration. Eventually, just as Pippi is opening her mouth to preempt her husband, Néo blurts it out:

"Is it outdoor sex season in your world? If so, is it public sex?"

(Crossposted from DW.)

Clark's holding a box, though all that's visible inside is some kind of red fabric. He looks contemplative, which is nothing unusual. "How do you know if the time is right for you to do something really important?"

((crossposted to dreamwidth))

There's a six-foot-plus-some young man, seated, and knitting busily.

"A question. Okay, how about this---why do strangers keep telling me I'm a horrible person that should go die in a hole?"

Yes, there is some bitterness there.

Unburden Your Soul and Chow Down on Some Candy

::Schuldig is sitting on the couch of his Nexus living room, eating a Cadbury Creme Egg in a way that'd be suggestive only if you have a perverted mind. Candy dishes on nearby tables featuring Peeps, chocolate eggs, jellybeans, Cadbury Creme Eggs, and chocolate-covered marshmallow bunnies.::

I'm celebrating St. Marks Down Day, a feast day for the patron saint of marked-down holiday candy, so I'm feeling generous. And I'm on a sugar high. What's bothering you, Nexus? I'll listen and offer my opinion on how to get through it.

Also, feel free to take some candy. I went overboard as usual. Have a seat and eat!
