tutorial ;; 01

this is so belated oh my god i'm so sorry for the delay. ladymercury_10 over at icon_talk wanted a tutorial on how to make this icon, so here we are.

this tutorial will show you how i create this:

honestly, before we get started, i am not one of those icon makers that have some predetermined icon plan for an image once they see it; i'm compulsive and subject to playing around with a hundred things before i deem it finished lmao. experimentation is your friend, kids~

first I started with this image of the lovely selina kyle and cropped it down until it looked like so

i quickly decided that it was too dark to do any editing at this point, so i brightened it by duplicating the layer and setting it to screen at 100%

her skin was looking a little rough and her lips a little dull to me, so i merged the first two layers together and then duplicated that one. i set it to hard light at 70% and applied guassian blur at 3.9 (filter > blur > guassian blur > 3.9) and got this

(honestly, hard light and guassian blur is my best friend when it comes to icons. my usual method is to duplicate the layer and set it to hard light and then go into guassian blur. the tool allows you to preview what the effect will look like, so i generally play around with the amounts until i see sometimg i like, it's great tbh)

i decided i liked how she looked as this so i moved onto the texture i was set to use the pattern set over top is this by ??? (can't remember the creator, sorry! if it's yours then please drop me a line) i placed the texture here at screen 100%

the colours on the pattern didn't really suit the colour scheme of the rest of the icon, so i went to hue/saturation (but create a clipping mask so the change of colour only affects the pattern layer, not the skin and face of selina) and set it to this

and we get this

next i decided that it needed something extra to tie the pattern in, so i created a basic colour strip down the bottom with the colour code of #4677ff. and that leaves us with this

and that's it, done! pretty short tutorial but that's because it's a pretty basic icon ;u;
