Alrighty, so I'm finally going to put a little summary of my trip to Mississippi. :)

We got into New Orleans around 4 pm and as we were driving through the city you could just see all the devastation. It was incredible how much damage there was so far into the city. When we got into Waveland it was even worse. Everywhere you looked there was damage. When we drove along the beach to get to the iCare Village, none of the houses were standing...all you could see were the steps leading up to where the houses should've been and the foundations. Later on they told us that no houses were left standing within seven miles along the beach and a quarter of a mile inland.

We reached the iCare Village around 7 and got all our stuff out of the van. Two of the heads of the camp greeted us and showed us the mess hall and where the showers and bathrooms were. Then they led us to our tents and we got all situated. The rest of the group arrived at 1:30 am.

On Sunday, we cleaned up the beach for the first part of the day and we found some weird stuff. One group found a vacuum; our group found a rotting carpet in the ocean. After lunch we switched tasks with the other half of our group and went to work readying the campsite for the people who were coming that day.

On Monday we all met outside the tent to get our assignments. Our group got kind of split up, but the majority of us were together. Needless to say, this day was productive, but I think there were definitely other people in better need of our help. The yard we were cleaning up was definitely the yard of someone with insurance and money. But hey, we did get a lot done and their yard looked great once we were done. One funny thing was that Brynn, Kristin and I were working on getting these posts out of the ground...it was so hard and it took all three of us to pull it out of the ground. But then up walks one of the Iowa State boys and he just yanks one out all by himself. It was incredible but he was such a show off. lol Then we went over to a trailer and took down the cabinets, brought out the furniture...and just started knocking things down.

Tuesday was pretty cool and we got a ton of stuff done. A huge group of us was dropped off at a demo site, but there wasn't enough work for all of us. So then my group gets picked up by someone and he took us to his house to work on. It was so cool! We were taking all the furniture and stuff out of his house and then taking the drywall off and ripping up the ceiling and taking the insulation out. He was also a really nice guy; brought us some cokes and sweet tea (my new favorite drink!!). We also got to meet his family before we left; that was really awesome.

Wednesday has to be my favorite day of the whole trip; it was just amazing. Once again, we had too many people on a site and we went looking for work. We ran into Alice who was in desperate need of help for the house she had just bought. The new house was down the street from her old house, which had been completely destroyed in the hurricane. The house was up on stilts and the porch had been taken out completely. The door was just on the side of the house and it was the only way we could get the debris out of the house. For the first half of the day there were only eight of us working on the house. Most of them were inside the house, but the three of us who were outside would gather everything they'd dump and pile it by the road. After lunch we came back with four more people and got back to work. Alice's son even came and helped us out, which was really awesome. By the end of the day, we had completely gutted the house of drywall, plywood, furniture and all the freaky stuff we found in there (can you say transexual porn?! weird!) Then we got to work under the house...getting all the stuff she didn't want from under there and putting it in the garbage pile. It was amazing how much stuff we took out of that house. Before we left, she got all our names and said she was going to get a plaque with our names to hang in there; that was just an amazing feeling. During the day, whenever we would talk to her, she was just so thankful...that just made everything worth it. Also, we talked to her son and he was just the same way. Overall, it was just an amazing day. On wednesday, we also met some locals who brought their crawfish boil to us to try. It was amazing...even though I didn't touch the little critters...I just couldn't bring myself to do it. lol

Thursday...well, it could've been better. We went to this guy's house who got a lot of wind damage, but nothing like the previous houses had gotten. He wasn't very organized with what he wanted us to do, but we finally found some stuff to do. That's the place where we built the deck...you should've seen what he wanted us to do. He would've killed himself just stepping on the thing. Anyway, that was the most unproductive day I've ever done on one of these spring break trips. It was rather disappointing actually.

Friday also could've been better. I was picked from my group, along with 9 other UI kids to go get filmed helping out a woman named Mary. She was an amazing person and I'm glad I went...even just to meet her. She had some items that she wanted recovered from her house and we eventually did find everything, but the news crew was horrible. They were so superficial and clueless. The newswoman was wondering why they couldn't just leave the house there...apparently she didn't get the memo that it was rotting and that they actually wanted to rebuild on that land. Kinda ticked me off. Then when one of the girls found the christening dress she wanted, she had to wait 10 minutes so they could get the live feed done and then get her reaction on film. I'm sorry, but that day did nothing to endear the newsstation to me. But again, her reaction when she saw all the stuff we had found in the rubble made the day worth it. After the news crew "got the story" we moved on to a different place. One of the demo sites was close and we went to "help" them finish. We pretty much did nothing. Although this was when I almost died from a board to the head. Six of us picked up this really heavy, long board and threw it on the pile, but when we did, this board just shot up and went straight over my head. If I was 2-3 inches taller, I would've been taken out. Kinda freaked me out. We only worked half a day that day because we had plans to go out to a nice dinner while we were there. We ended up going to a pretty good seafood place...and I even tried some. We got some fried green tomatoes with crab on them because I've always wanted to try them, so I did while I got the chance! So good!!!!!!! Then I had a greek salad as an entree, with some cake afterward that someone donated to us.

Then we came home Saturday...it was quite the week. I just wish we could've stayed longer and done more. And in case you missed them, here are my pictures.

Oh and yay! Got my car fixed...finally.

So, I'm in love with "The Office" on NBC. It's so freaking funny! It's a tad offensive, but I can kinda overlook it with how funny it is. And of course, I had to get all shippy and Jim/Pam...just love them!!

I got an email today from the Spring Break people and I got accepted into the program. I was put into the Biloxi, Mississippi group. :) I'm so excited...hoping I can have my grandma finance and then pay her back when I get the money. But she's kinda wary about me going down there. I think it'll be a great experience...helping people, getting community service hours that I need, and going to somewhere in the country that I've never been. I don't know if I'll know anybody on the trip, which is something I'm kinda wary about, but I still think this will be much better than going somewhere else for the week and doing nothing.

Went over to Pullman yesterday and saw the relatives and Peggy Sue. They even fed me, which I wasn't planning on, but it was greatly appreciated. ;) Jan came late last night, so we might all meet up this week sometime and go to dinner.

Well, I should get to writing this Spanish paper/homework. She jumped right into speaking only spanish the second class and I'm not following her very well.

Well, I'll be legal in about an hour and twenty minutes, so I thought I'd make one last update as a 20 year old. My mom sent me the cutest e-card from Hallmark. Had me laughing the whole time! And then the best part...the message! She got me Pretender season 3!!! I wish I was gonna be home, but what can ya do, eh? Going out to dinner at Applebees with Kath and Gary tomorrow; should be fun. :)

Classes started today. Spanish is gonna be hella hard, but Mackenzie's in there with me so that'll make it a bit better. Gary's class should be interesting. He moved it to a plus/minus system, only two tests- a midterm and final, the regular written reports and then a term paper. I've never written a term paper for him, but I think it'll be okay. My political science teacher is very odd. He kept going off on tangents and he even held us after...on the first day! Oh well, I think it'll be a good year. Citizen's Police Academy starts on the 24th and Allison and I are very excited- especially since we'll know someone. lol

So, I got back into Moscow last night around 8 pm. We left Pocatello at 5 and got into Boise at 5:55. I had to go get a ticket because they changed the company i flew thru to get to Boise. The lady at the desk put me on standby because they were overbooked, even though I'd had my reservations since October. I was kinda pissed off that I might have had to stay in Boise for the night, but they had some room and I got onto the flight I was supposed to. Then I get into Lewiston and only one of my bags came out on the baggage thing. There were like five people this happened to and we all went to the gate where they told us that our bags had been held back because of the plane's weight and balance. This one ticked me off even more because it has my shampoo & conditioner, toothbrush & toothpaste, makeup...everything! Even my birthday cake was in there! So now, I just have to wait for them to call me from Pullman to tell me to come get my stuff. I know this happens a lot, but I just want my stuff. :(

Onto better news...had my birthday dinner(s) on Saturday and Sunday. Went to church on Sat night, then to Buddy's which is my favorite restaraunt EVER! Then on Sunday we had some chicken succotash stew. I got GG season 2, Hello Dolly on dvd, some money from my grandma, and a gift certificate for iTunes music. And then the cake! German chocolate cake- also my favorite- with ice cream.

School starts tomorrow and I guess I'm kinda excited, then my birthday is on Thursday. I think I'm gonna go over to Kath and Gary's and we're gonna go to dinner or something. Then on Jan 24th the citizen's police academy thing starts...I got the confirmation letter and I'm getting even more excited about it. :)

I got some good stuff this year. My parents got me dvds: Finding Neverland, Gilmore Girls season 4 & Pretender season 1. *swoon* And the Fall Out Boy cd!!!!!! I heart them! They also got me a cute Nike shirt and some gift cards for Waldenbooks (yay!) and Old Navy. And a Braves calander, some Sees candy, and some scratch tickets. Kari got me an Atlanta Braves lanyard and a Sam Goody certificate. Grandma got me an ornament and some money. Kath and Gary got me the cutest U of I sweater. Meg and Eric got me the cutest scarf from Old Navy; she always picks out the cutest stuff for us.

So, I got home on Saturday. The flights to Boise and Idaho Falls were pretty uneventful and fast, but the flight from IF to Pocatello was so long. It should've been 15 mins to get the other passengers and their luggage, but turned out to be 35 mins because the passengers were taking forever and then the plane was too heavy. I was literally 10 mins away from home and waiting that extra time sucked. Then this Mormon guy comes on the plane with this girl and they were friends, I guess. But then he didn't want to sit in the seat behind me, which was next to this woman holding her little baby, and he turns to me and asks if I would mind switching seats with him. Sometimes I hate being a pushover cuz I was hesitating and then he turned on his Mormon guy- if you don't do this God will hate you- type face and I did it...nevermind that I'd be getting off before he would...whatever.

It's all very weird to be home and have nothing to do. My grandma is sick so 1) she cant' get her eye operated on and 2) she's banned me from her house. I'm at a loss...though sleeping in is always nice. :D Got my eyes checked today and apparently they've actually gotten better...very weird.

Had my corrections final yesterday and I think it went pretty well. I didn't study the night before and it was freaking me out right before I went to bed, so I ended up waking up at 7 am to at least get the gist of the articles in the textbook. Allison kinda cheated off me, but I guess thats okay. I mean, as long as I don't get in trouble for it, I don't really care. I guess even with my three hours of studying I was still more prepared than she was.

So...I'm happy. I just got the best grade on my final paper for my methods of social research class. I was freaking out because I pretty much waited til the last minute to get it done and I thought it sucked. Apparently the teacher didn't mind cuz she gave me a 136/150. I was pretty shocked and last night I started dancing around the room; it was quite hilarious.

Went to the OGRD party at my aunt and uncle's house yesterday. That was pretty fun. Miranda was there and she brought her roommate who seems pretty cool. But then they left after like an hour and I was just hanging out, being bored. It's always nice to see Don and Nancy, they're always fun to be around.

Taking Mackenzie to Lewiston tomorrow- leaving here at six am- then coming back to listen to presentations for my methods class. So glad I got that over with last week. I kinda sucked it up since I don't do well talking in front of people, but I got a 47/50 so it's all good.

Well, two finals down, 2 to go! The two today (Anth & Juvenile Delinquency) sucked...especially since they started at 7:30 am. But I think those two were the hardest. At least I hope so. Corrections final tomorrow, but I'm not too worried about it...pretty sure I'll get an A regardless of how I do on the final. Then Thursday I have to go sit through presentations and on Friday I have my last final at 3:30 pm. What a sucky time for a final...ugh!

Oh, and yay! I talked to Jamie today and we're gonna hang out during break. I haven't seen her since the wedding.

Jared's 21st birthday is today. Already told me he was gonna get trashed...so not surprised. ;)

Just remembered...it's a month til my birthday!!! :D

1. When I'm eating M&Ms, or anything like that, I always eat them in pairs. I dump them all out onto my desk and then pair them all; only then will I eat them.

3. Every year I make my mom buy me an advent calander around Christmas. No matter how old I am, I have to have one.

4. Whenever I talk to my parents when they're at home, I always have to talk to my dog or he has to "sing" to me over the phone.

5. Whenever I get stressed or need to take a break from studying, I go do the dishes. It just brings this cathartic feeling to me. Before I came up to school, I hated doing the dishes and now, try to stop me. lol

Ok, so last Saturday we were planning on leaving at 6:30, which meant I'd be waking up at 5:30 to hop in the shower and get all my stuff packed into the car. I had trouble getting to sleep in the first place and finally drifted off at 12:15-ish only to be woken up by someone knocking on my door very early in the morning. I ambled to the door and opened it up to Mackenzie who looked very alert. She started saying how she couldn't sleep so we were going to head out earlier than we'd planned. I asked the time and she looked at the clock in her room...it was freaking 4 am. I gave her my little wtf look but did start getting ready. Of course the boys were still drunk, so that was fun getting them into the car and stuff, but we finally did leave at about 5:30. The car drive down was so long and I only got to drive for about an hour, which really did suck since I love driving that road.

We finally got into Pocatello at 5:45 MST. About 20 mins after reaching my house, my mom, sister and I headed over to my grandma's house so we could all go to Buddy's...which is my favorite restaraunt in the world. :D And I actually got to go twice this week, which was very exciting.

Dad was hunting, so I didn't get to see him til Sunday. Of course, he didn't get anything...we're beginning to think that my grandma saying that she's praying he doesn't get anything is actually jinxing him. He actually had the chance to get one but he got greedy and thought a bigger one would come along...oy vey! lol

Since he didn't come back til Sunday, I had to wait til Monday to see GoF. That kinda sucked. But the movie was pretty awesome. It might be my favorite, but I'll reserve my judgement on that til I see it again. ;) The two biggest things that I didn't like about it were: 1) Bagman not being there, thus making it so the twins couldn't bet and lose all their money so Harry would give them the Tri-Wizard winnings, and 2) Rita Skeeter not being shown as an animagus- totally screws up OotP. *sigh*

On Tuesday I got my massage and let me just tell you....HEAVEN! It was pretty awesome. Then I went and got my teeth cleaned. Everyone knows me there since I've been going since I was about 5, so everyone was coming up and saying hi or looking at the pic of me from around that age that's in my file. Kinda embarassing after all these years. lol Kath and Gary came in that night and my mom and I went to pick them up and drive them to Am Falls.

On Wednesday I got my hair chopped off, like eight inches, and got it layered. It's quite different from what I'm used to but I'm really liking it. Phil and Sarah came in that afternoon and I picked them up and drove them to my grandma's house. Kath and Gary drove in from AF and we all went to Buddy's again. :D Oh, and my grandma's dog had a little blister in his ear so they took him to the vet's to get it fixed. I probably shouldn't laugh, but seeing him so out of sorts from the anesthesia was kinda funny.

On Thursday, watched the parade and games on TV with my dad (I miss that) and then we got ready and went over to my grandma's house to pick her up. My mom kinda lost the keys for a while and she was freaking out, but we finally found them and headed over to AF. I kinda don't like having a holiday dinner somewhere other than my grandma's or our house because if I get bored, I can't go find something to do...and I tend to get bored easily. I was helping to get chairs for the table and kinda reinjured my ankle...that was fun.

I went shopping on Friday with my aunt, mother and grandmother. Apparently, having holes in shirts gives people the wrong impression about you. But they were very insistent that I buy new clothes, no matter that Christmas is right around the corner. Got a cute sweater and shirt. :D We were going to go to the parade that night, but then it started raining. We went to the Continental Bistro instead and it was so good and a lot of fun.

And then on Saturday, the snow came. It was a huge blizzard; we got a lot of snow. And of course, I still had to get some shopping done since I was leaving on Sunday. We went downtown to get a coat for my sister, then we headed over to the mall. I got two pairs of jeans and a pair of shoes. That night, Kari, mom and I had our little annual movie night. We watched "Holiday Inn" and "White Christmas." I just love that tradition!

I should've done all my homework then and now I'm paying for it. But it was really worth it since I don't see them hardly ever. I hadn't been home since June, so I think I earned that little break. ;) We left yesterday at 9 MST and didn't get here til 6:30 PST. It was such a long drive, had to go kinda slow a lot of the way because of snow and icy roads in the mountains.

Got two tests back today...86 on JD and 96% on Corrections! So happy with both of them; didn't think I'd do that well. :D

I hate when I go in to do something and then find out I haven't actually brought the thing I wanted to work on. I need to get some of this research done so I can have some time with family and friends at break, but it's not looking too good right now.

But anyway, GoF came out today but I have to wait til Monday now. My dad is going hunting this weekend so A) that means I won't see him til late Sunday and B) that I'll have to wait more time to watch the movie, which sucks since I've been ready since....this summer. lol It'll be ok, I know I'll get to see it regardless but I'm just anxious.

I only have one more class til break actually starts, so I'm soooooo excited. Can't wait to see my parents, sister and grandma. I can honestly tell you I'm never going from June to November without going home at least once ever again.

Well, I woke up to it snowing outside. It's stopped now, but I'm not ready for snow. I consider us lucky to not have had it so far, but it seriously couldn't have picked a better time. We're going home in 6 days...that means driving for 10 hours on slick, icy roads. Not very appealing to me.

Which reminds me...5 days til GoF comes out, 6 til I go home, and 7 til I actually get to see GoF. :D

I called my mom today and told her I'd go pick up some Cougar Gold from Ferdinand's tomorrow and she's like, "Can't it wait til the 15th? That's when I'll have money for you to buy it." And I'm a little cranky cuz I had ulterior motives...I wanted to go to Kath and Gary's to watch GH. I haven't seen a full episode in months and since it's been so good lately, I wanted to check it all out. Guess I'll just have to go watch on Wednesday or something.

Hey Amber, if it works out, wanna go to Ferdinand's on Wednesday since it's so close...
