Do You Hear What I Hear
Returning to a Message That Refuses to Fade
Every year around this time, someone writes to ask how they can find this video.
There are multiple versions of it from different spiritual centers and churches where I spoke over the years, but this was the original delivered during the 2015 holiday season at the Spiritual Living Center of Atlanta, during the years I served as Spiritual Director.
I listened to it in my car today after receiving yet another request and found myself reflecting on where I was in 2015, how much has changed since then, and how much, both culturally and personally, has remained steadfast. I can’t recall the events of that holiday season ten years ago and why I was inspired to weave together the thirteen-day scare of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the writings of British philosopher James Allen, and a classic Christmas carol.
Listening again today, I’m reminded that humanity lives in a rhythm of remembering and forgetting, loving and warring, and that what wakes us is rarely convenience. It’s disruption with purpose.
