It is Microsoft&#8217;s enterprise level <abbr title=\"Relational Database Management System\">RDBMS<\/abbr> offering, and is a more sophisticated and robust system than Access, which has traditionally been a desktop system.<\/p>\n<p>SQL Server&#8217;s main competitors are <a href=\"https:\/\/database.guide\/what-is-oracle-database\/\">Oracle Database<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/database.guide\/what-is-mysql\/\">MySQL<\/a> (now owned by Oracle), <a href=\"https:\/\/database.guide\/what-is-postgresql\/\">PostgreSQL<\/a>, and IBM&#8217;s DB2.<\/p>\n<p>SQL Server is a client-server based system, which means that it operates as a server, typically containing\u00a0many <a href=\"https:\/\/database.guide\/what-is-a-database\/\">databases<\/a>, with multiple clients accessing the databases\u00a0from across a network. Here are the ones that make up SQL Server 2016.<\/p>\n<h3>Database Engine<\/h3>\n<p>The Database Engine is the core service for storing, processing, and securing data.<\/p>\n<h3>R Services<\/h3>\n<p>R Services provides two server platforms for integrating the popular open source R language with business applications: SQL Server R Services (In-Database), for integration with SQL Server, and Microsoft R Server.<\/p>\n<p>The R language is widely used among statisticians and data miners for developing statistical software and data analysis.<\/p>\n<h3>Data Quality Services<\/h3>\n<p>Data Quality Services (DQS) is used for data-cleansing, using a knowledge base system.<\/p>\n<h3>Integration Services<\/h3>\n<p>Integration Services is a platform for data integration and data transformations.<\/p>\n<h3>Master Data Services<\/h3>\n<p>Master Data Services enables an organisation to create a and manage a trusted version of data as it changes over time.<\/p>\n<h3>Analysis Services<\/h3>\n<p>Analysis Services is Microsoft&#8217;s data warehousing solution.<\/p>\n<h3>Replication<\/h3>\n<p>Replication is a set of technologies for copying and distributing data and database objects from one database to another, and then synchronising between databases to maintain consistency.<\/p>\n<h3>Reporting Services<\/h3>\n<p>Reporting Services allows you to create reports from a variety of data sources, publish reports in various formats, and centrally manage security and subscriptions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SQL Server is a relational database management system (RDBMS) developed by Microsoft.
