Here, I demonstrate how to delete a Database Mail profile in SQL Server<\/a> using the SQL Server Management Studio<\/a> (SSMS) graphical user interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let’s Begin<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From the Object Explorer, open the Management node and right click Database Mail<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the context menu, click Configure Database Mail<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may get an interim “Welcome” screen before you get to the next one. If so, click Next ><\/strong> to continue to the following screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This opens the Select Configuration Task screen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this screen, select Manage Database Mail accounts and profiles<\/strong>, then click Next ><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This brings us to the Manage Profiles and Accounts screen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select the last option View, change, or delete an existing profile…<\/strong> and then click Next ><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This moves us to the following screen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be sure to select the right profile to delete. You do this by selecting the profile from the drop down menu at the top (step 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you’ve selected the correct profile, click Delete<\/strong> (step 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This takes results in a pop up dialog box, warning you about what will happen with any unsent mail:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basically, it’s giving you the opportunity to only delete the profile if there are no unsent emails from this profile. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • If you click No<\/strong> here, then the profile won’t be delete if there are any unsent messages. However, it will<\/em> delete the profile if there aren’t<\/em> any unsent messages.<\/li>
  • If you click Yes<\/strong>, then it the profile will be deleted regardless of any unsent mail. Any unsent mail will be automatically failed, once this profile has been deleted.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    In my case, I clicked Yes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Which closed the dialog box and showed me the previous screen again:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    However, now a different profile is showing. This is because I just deleted the other one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Well, it’s not actually deleted yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Once you’re back at this screen, click Next ><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This presents us with one last opportunity to review our changes before committing them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If it’s all good, click Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Finally, the profile is being deleted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
