Utsav Das
I am a graduate of the Master of Mathematics in Computer Science research (thesis) program at the University of Waterloo.
During my time there, I was a research student at the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Research Lab. My thesis was based on using graph convolutional networks (GCNs) for incorporating syntactic information for sentence generation, and supervised by Dr. Olga Vechtomova. I have worked with Manulife Financial Corporation on aspect based sentiment analysis with GCNs and BERT-based methods, and topic modelling for short texts. Along with my studies, I have volunteered at the university community garden and served as the treasurer of the CS Grad Student Association
During my undergraduate studies, I participated in Project Deep Blue, a city-wide event in Mumbai where university students work with NGOs to build solutions for their needs. I worked with my university team to develop an application that helps NGOs find prospective volunteers by analyzing their Twitter feeds, using topic modelling techniques. The project led to an internship at Mastek, the company organizing the event, where I developed an information bot to answer questions about the company's HR policies.
In my spare time, I like reading fiction and philosophy, and travelling.
