Welp. I'm pretty sure you guys might have heard me say this before because I am a hopeless Sonic nerd and well.

Several years later (Because I recall trying to read an article like this before) I finally have enough understanding of biology to actually read and comprehend what that article is saying! Yaaaay!

And a few other articles related to Sonic Hedgehog. Just... Just...

It's awesome, hilarious and somewhat disturbing. All articles that bring up this gene do actually mention that the gene is named for the Video Game character. You can almost hear the exasperation in the writing. All "Like, seriously guys, why?" Hey, I don't see them complaining when they're teaching kids about the two glands in the brain some genius decided to name a structure in the brain after mammary glands because as my Bio Psych teacher put it "Hurr hurr, they look like boobies. C;" ~~Love that prof, best lecture but the course could have benefited from tutorials. Damn the budget cuts!!~~

Of course, when you're a patient in the hospital due to some sort of cancer or witnessing some strange mutation involving eyes, the least reassuring thing to hear is that the protein at the source of the problem is Sonic Hedgehog.

I mean really.

Ten days in ShangHai and I just made it to Hong Kong about five hours ago. I have come to the conclusion that Mainland China hates me. :\ Caught a fever on what? the 7th day or something? THE NIGHT WE SPENT IN A HAUNTED HOTEL I WAS DELIRIOUS WITH FEVER. So really, it could have been a ghost who was changing the towel I had on my forehead and it would not have made a lick of difference to me.

Mom, on the other hand, kicked the ghost sitting at the foot of her bed by accident. Another couple had the hot water tap in their sink turn on in the middle of the night (and for reference; most of the taps were pretty much jammed. One of the most unappealing showers I've had for a while)

Our first destination after arriving in Shang Hai was TaiHu. One of the largest lakes but it's about a meter deep. You know you're a video game nerd when you see a lake that big and the first thought in your head is "It wasn't a lake, it's an ocean" (yaaaay Alan Wake). There's this Giant Buddha statue on top of the mountain in the best fengshui location in China and a bunch of other things but I couldn't make heads or tails of what our guide was saying half the time. /sob

Then it was SuZhou... I think? YOU CAN TELL V. V. LITTLE HAPPENED THAT I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER IT. lol brb feeling a little guilty. >>;;

NANJING, WHICH I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT?! LOLASDLGKJASLDKJFS everyone was worried that this hotel would be haunted because hahahahaha history lesson. I was so uncomfortable the whole time but certainly not out of fear for the Other Side. For a group of people that seem to harbour a very high level of dislike for the Japanese (for understandable reasons!!) it's kinda hilarious how a lot of their children cartoons seem to be copying Japanese Animanga and other designs (Ariel from Dr.Slump was used in a commercial, though they used an actual kid with black hair and changed the letters on her hat to read 'SoHappy' instead of 'SLUMP'). I don't remember what happened here. D| Turns out this hotel was pretty clean. A night spent well. =v=

Huang Shan aka that-place-you-always-see-traditional-Chinese-paintings-of was our main destination of this trip. It was legit gorgeous, though it's really easy to see how some people would be unimpressed (a mountain's a mountain's a mountain. the Alps and Rockies look just as lovely but the feel of all of them are quite different. 8Ta). It was raining though, so while we ended up getting randomly rained on, we got to see the 'Cloud Ocean' scene that Huang Shan is well known for.

Then I caught a goddamn fever. >T

HanZhou; the place well known for it's tea, the West Lake and pretty ladies. We ended up watching a show, taking a boat ride and walking through the park (though, dear god, we probably went at the wrong time because it looked like Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver. Awkward Kuu was Awkward). The landscape was really quite gorgeous though, like any tourist attraction should be. But, again... Fever. fml (PS: this was the city where our hotel was haunted. Phantom footsteps, physical presences, moving chairs, water turning on, the whole cake. I wish I had a camera. ~~Kuu, making Fatal Frame references at a time like this what?~~)

Went back to ShangHai, watched another show (ACROBATICS I LOVE CHINESE ACROBATICS LOOK MA, NO CABLES) but apparently, half of our tour fell asleep. I am now officially certain that I am the only person on any of these tours that can stay awake for these shows. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFml.

Speaking of ShangHai and ghosts, there were a lot of derelict buildings in ShangHai. A lot of them were half demolished and still being used. It's kinda scary seeing what difference having money can do. D|

Fever's mostly gone now (sob why must I always fall sick when we cross the Chinese Border?!) but I've got a cough and this light, but persistent, fever. 8T

Sonic Generations is so enjoyable. ;; seeing the Sonics interact is so fun and playful!! Classic!Sonic being impressed by Modern!Sonic's slick moves and cheering him on fjjsskajlsfj!!! And then Modern!Sonic helping out and being anniyed by himself it's like aaaaaaaaaaaaa

This game gives me feelings. ;_; Not mixed feels like Skyward Sword but just feels because nnnngh. Just... /wibble

Spent a week away from actual RP, and not... on purpose either. Oops? IDK school and work got in the way and before I knew it... Still love my characters, but thinking of ways to get four people who clearly do not like the idea of using the communicators to talk to each other is kinda irritating. 8T THERE IS ONLY SO MANY WAYS I CAN MAKE LOGS YOU GUYS good lord.

Layton, Heat, Richter and Haruki. I just... Why. Layton is the only one who is remotely social and he prefers face-to-face interactions over comm devices. I'm just. I need to think of a reason - any reason - for them to go out there and do something but oh god what are feelings how does communicate? LAYTON HAS A STIFF UPPER LIP, ALL RIGHT? 8CCC

And everyone else is socially stunted because SPOILERS AND REASONS. They're so tsundere sometimes, it makes me want to throttle the three of them and their bff issues.

And I think I ruined the game for myself because like... Half(?!) of the spoilers are the premises for my AUs. Both of them. DO YOU KNOW HOW DISHEARTENING IT IS TO WATCH THIS MASSIVE EMOTIONAL SCENE AND HAVE THE ONLY THOUGHT GO THROUGH YOUR HEAD AT THAT POINT BE "HOLY SHIT I KNEW IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT"?!? SKYWARD SWORD, STOP THAT, STOP THAT AT ONCE! >C how am I ever suppose to call him 'AU' nevermind Keane holy shit anymore if you keep making parts of his headcanon history actual canon? It's both mind blowing and so satisfying at the same time. Sob I'm almost afraid to play through Generations to see what would happen. (key word being 'almost' because Sonic is my homehog and I would never turn him down hahaha orz )

But now I have this like... MASSIVE nostalgia trip for TDZ and ZDR no thanks to Sonic Colours and Skyward Sword. It's very depressing. 8( hahaha. /sobs quietly over there

So dad got kinda pissed off at me and mom for being like "... We like the desktop more, why do you need a laptop as well?" and such. It's just... being practical. What stops a person from viewing and comparing products at the store? Why do you need to purchase both? I mean seriously. But the straw that broke the camel's back was probably his friend making fun of his for not being able to use a computer. It's a bit depressing but at the same time it's like... He's never used the computer for anything other than youtube (stupid youtube videos goddamn), and sometimes looking at tools that he doesn't need to buy (nor has the money to) but wants to. Like... I don't know. Can't really defend my own use of the internet because outside of occasionally doing readings/research for school I'm mostly just watching videos and roleplaying (lol). 8|a I did say that I liked the desktop more because even if I need to move around, that's fine because I have a macbook to do so. Sometimes, having a proper keyboard and mouse over a touchpad and stuff is nice. =v= But he was beyond listening to me explain that I'm not mad at him, I'm frustrated at the game and while I prefer the desktop it's still his choice as to which one to refund and which one to keep. Granted, I was kinda peeved at the whole "THE HITBOX ON THIS BASTARD IS TOO SMALL AND WHY WON'T YOU JUST DIIIIIIIIIE" so I probably ended up sounding meaner than I intended. 8'(

IDK whether it's because the lab prof. organized the exam weirdly or because the class is full of students who can't read/don't consider other people in their class or what but this? This is almost as bad as my being unable to get a proper schedule at the beginning of the year.

That exam is 10%. If I lose that 10% I want it to be because of my own lack of knowledge and not because my classmates cockblocked me from taking the exam.

Holy cow, what a piece of work this course is turning out to be. ~~even our prof is getting annoyed. hahahuuuuuuh~~

But yes, long story short; my tsundere failtagonist redheads are messed up and fail at life and this thing called 'relationships'. How do socialize? ~~there was this huge tl;dr thing last night but I gave up and decided to keep my insecurity about my ability to play these two to myself. v-v /sage nod~~ No one wants to hear me tl;dr about these two, no really.

Which makes me alternatively want to and not want to app Richter to EV or Heat to RS. Only bad things can come of this if I have them both at a game. Also, while compiling a playlist to listen to when commenting as them I realized that a lot of the songs I listen to for one I use for the other two. I no longer know what the hell I'm doing. I always knew that the goddamn school system sucked but this just- fucking-

THERE'S A SIX HOUR GAP OF NOTHING IN THE MIDDLE OF MY MONDAY! If... There was a Monday course I could swap my Thursday lecture for, then I'll go for it and free up a day where I can work (speaking of work, I've got a job interview this Friday. TWO MONTHS AFTER I SENT IN THAT APPLICATION...) as well as the week ends. It wouldn't be so aggravating if the Monday didn't start at 9:30-10:20AM and then again... six hours later... at 5:30 and 7:20.

That's the whole fucking dayyyyyyyyy.

This Psychology course (required) only had one section when I enrolled. One. My monday afternoons/evenings should have been free but no. NO. And now I'm trying to find another course to switch it to.

Except all the courses are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or MONDAY FUCKING EVENINGS

fffff okay quick rundown

1) was out on a cruise to Alaska (yes, in the middle of summer) for a week. It was fun! We caught sight of dolphins next to the ship and seals! Unfortunately, mom and I didn't set the alarm correctly for the day we were in Glacier Bay, so we accidentally slept through the one hour we had at one of the Glaciers. APPARENTLY, ICE BROKE OFF AND WE TOTALLY MISSED IT? ahahah fuck B|

2) hung out with failicus yesterday. WE BOUGHT BEAUTIFUL SONIC SWAG QAQ And some Nintendo posters and then lol'd about how Nintendo should totally buy the rights to Megaman because Capcom clearly doesn't care about that franchise anymore and Megaman would be in good hands with Nintendo (AND WE COULD HAVE HIM IN THE NEXT SMASH BROS. GAME WITHOUT THE WHOLE NEED TO NEGOTIATE WITH A THIRD-PARTY COMPANY? IDK) Perpetually joking about how everyone lives in Mario's basement. Also, I apparently impressed a few girls with my 1337 Jubeat skills. Or so Audio tells me. idk idk

For those not in the know; Jubeat is basically a rhythm game in the local arcade. There's a five by five set of buttons that you have to tap to the song of your choice. I can play up to level 6 Extreme right now with either C or B rank (or A if I'm familiar with the song lol). I'M WORKING ON IT THOUGH >C

3) I'm having difficulty tagging as Link, not because I have issues with his voice, oh no. It's because LJ has made it a habit to try and eat any post made by one of my elves (Link and Richter, right now) IT'S HILARIOUS? In that "Oh Goddess why would you ever fffffffffff" ~~lol Goddess. Why does that work for both of them? /sob~~

There's a riot happening in Downtown right now because the Canucks lost the game. Suddenly, I've got a case of second-hand embarrassment.

When people are completely neglecting the fact that 1) fire safety and 2) general safety all to get videos and photos and stuff for Facebook or Twitter? Yea, I'm sorry, but that's just dumb. It's like texting a friend to tell them that there's an earthquake happening while you're standing there.

The police are telling them to please move away (because there are only a handful of people rioting) but it ain't working because everyone else is just tweeting or making facebook posts or taking videos to post on YouTube. I just.

I just got to the end and started wibbling like a loser. Sob. Heat's end was easier to endure ~~no it wasn't~~ than this. All SPOILER-TASTIC LOLOLOLOL and I bawwww'd like a loser because Serph and Kazuki were like "noplz" while Heat and Haruki were all "lol denied" (asdjglskadjfsakld this plot makes no sense what the fucking fuck)

several hours later...

One visit to the clothing stores around my aunt's place has revealed that - holy shit - between Sugata's shirt/vest combo and Yosuke's red hipster jeans, that's pretty much the most hip fashion statement of the year. Yosuke's red hipster jeans. The tight ones he wears during the summer months in a game that was released years ago.

How did Atlus know that it was going to be a hit thing this year? Seriously, I saw a hairdresser in Beijing wearing Yosuke's summer outfit IN FULL. (subsequently spent the next five minutes scraping my jaw off the floor lol) Thankfully, he wasn't wearing headphones and his hair had the usual spiky Asian look otherwise I would have probably fainted. haha.

But yes. Sugata and Yosuke's outfits. In Hong Kong/China. What is my life? (it's funny because I finished setting up their accounts just before arriving here! WHAT ARE THE CHANCES?! fffffff)

And despite my best efforts, China won and totally killed me with Poison. 8( I knew I should have stolen Heat's Dis-Ache when I had the chance (yea, I got owned by stomach poisoning. Beijing food; killing us quickly). Still feeling slightly under the weather - which is unfortunate because the food in Hong Kong is DELICIOUS and I am wasting perfectly good eating time WALLOWING in this stupid bloated feeling. /sadfais)

I GOT PHOTOS FROM BEIJING THOUGH so there will be pic spam once I get home. B) I'll be taking some photos of stuff in Hong Kong too.
