Most of you have heard me talk about Verde Valley School, my high school. Some of you were there with me. It's a unique place, not without its mix of good and bad things. Above all, though, it's a special place to me.
It was founded in 1948 by Hamilton and Barbara (Ham and Babs) Warren (history). They had a vision, and set out to create it. Ham died before I came to the school, but Babs was a fixture - helping to decorate the dorms, making sure that there were gardens tucked all over campus, having us over for tea and to hear her stories about growing up on a coffee plantation in Guatemala.
I just got e-mail from the current headmaster, letting all of us know that Babs passed away last night, at her home on campus, surrounded by loved ones. She will be greatly missed and remembered with joy and love by all of us.
