The Coreys plus vampire!Kiefer--how could you go wrong? Well, I suppose you could go wrong by leaving out Nanook. But I'm sure you wouldn't do that.

The People Under the Stairs
Okay, I know that this is total crack now, but when I was 12, this movie seemed to be making a Really Important point about social issues.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
I adore this movie, especially Sarah Polley as Ana, but I'd be fine with either a serious vid or a cracky one.

So Close
Yeah, the story is kinda weak, but it's a fabulous action movie in which all the major characters are women. It needs all the vids.

The Unusuals
I'd be happy with anything as long as it didn't involve shipping Shraeger/Walsh. They are such awesome bros, and that's what I love about them.

Freaks & Geeks
I don't understand why there aren't 1000 Kim Kelly vids. *shakes head*

Fired Up!
So I'm mainly requesting this to see if anyone else agrees with me that this movie came about when some J2 fic writer was assigned to write an exploitative cheerleader movie.

VividCon 2012 report and vid recs

VividCon report! I took no notes this year, so none of this is accurate. I tried not to name names, but it was really hard.

Overall, this was definitely my most relaxed VividCon. Partly because the only vid of mine shown was my Club Vivid premiere, and that certainly wasn't stressful. Partly because I had no worries about having a good time.

Thursday

Didn't sleep at all Wednesday night, so just apologies to everyone I talked to on Thursday. Or drooled on.

Managed to get in a conversation about knotting less than 20 minutes after arriving at the hotel. I LOVE FANDOM. And fan_eunice had already scarred a Rabbi for life.

Friday

Note to self for next year: bringing your own coffee to make in the room was an awesome idea.

Vid shows and panels! I'm going to be super lazy and just link to this masterlist. So there.

History of Vidding: Club Vivid was a great kick-off for the con, and it was lovely actually watching Don't Stop the Rock for once. Also, it is very, very hard not to chair dance to Laura's Shut Up and Drive.

Skipped the next block to make a Dominick's run for lunch and a Triple!Venti!Mocha. Apologies to everyone who had to endure that caffeine buzz.

Went to the Weird Science show after lunch. Really enjoyed Let's Enhance for pointing out one of my pet peeves with procedurals. And loved getting to see one of my Festivids this year--Gone by laurashapiro--on the big screen.

WIP It Good panel--so nice to get to wallow in the shared agony of vids that we just can't finish for whatever reason. I also love getting to see other people's vidding processes. (I'm one of those people who dumps entire episodes into Premiere and then makes subclips. Sorry, Abbey.) Loved greensilver's Methos WIP, which uses hilarious text as placeholders for clips. I'd love to see an entire vid of that. "Eye sex!" "Epic explosion!" She has it online now here.

Do You Vid Your Myers-Briggs? This panel had huge attendance, and there were many conversations about our respective acronyms all weekend. I was an INFP as an undergrad; now I'm INTP, probably because I have to teach logic to freshmen now.

During the next block, I did my first-ever shift working in the con suite, which I really liked. I have a REASON to stay in there eating peanut butter cookies and pumpkin bread. Damn, that was good pumpkin bread.

Then dinner and pre-Club Vivid drinking! Then actual Club Vivid drinking! Loved all the costumes: the Avengers, the Hunger Games trainees, revolutionaryjo's Leslie Knope on the campaign trail. So many people were wearing Knope 2012 buttons--I wonder how many Muggles assumed we were at a political rally?

Also, raise your hand if you picked up Mjolnir while astolat wasn't looking. And said I AM WORTHY OF THE POWER OF THOR. Okay, maybe that last bit was just me.

I think my CVV premiere went over okay. I was kinda too busy dancing to pay much attention. But I heard people singing along, so that was neat.

I think my post-CVV involved convincing guys staying at the hotel for Chicago ComicCon that Marvel's Civil War arc makes no sense if you don't see it as Steve and Tony's Immensely Painful and Public Divorce.

Saturday

Typography in Vids panel. So glad I woke up to attend this one. I knew most of that stuff already, but I'm sooo lazy about titles when I vid. This was a nice kick in the ass to make me work harder on seeing the title/credits as an integral part of the vid.

Let My Lyrics Go panel. I didn't see the accompanying vid show, but this was interesting, and definitely relevant considering how many instrumental vids played at the con this year.

Vids That Go Bump in the Night show. This was the show I was most looking forward to, and I loved it. But in retrospect, I maybe shouldn't have watched greensilver's Shining vid The Art of Self-Destruction while staying at a hotel. For one, that vid is even creepier in that setting. Also, after that, every time something a little weird would happen, like the elevator doors would mysteriously open for no reason, I'd get freaked out. Please don't kill me, Spring Hill Marriott.

Also, yay for mithborien's The Devil Takes Care of His Own on the big screen! I'm still ridiculously pleased that I got Salma dancing for Festivids this year.

I also attended the following panel discussion, but I have no memory of that place. I remember thinking it was a good discussion? And thinking that jetpack_monkey did a good job of balancing vid discussion with horror theory. And that it was hilarious to hear songs like "Tragedy" and "Sabotage" playing next door while discussing horror.

Setting the Pace panel. jarrow deserves a trophy for Most Use of Sexual Innuendo in the discussion of vidding. And this was also a very useful discussion!

Overall, it seemed to me that the panels this year were especially useful to current and future vidders. This is in comparison to the two previous years, in which they were great! And interesting! Just, this year I felt like I learned a lot of things, both practical (how to pace a vid) and, IDK, conceptual, I guess (how does your personality define you as a vidder/vid-watcher).

Premieres

Let me just admit--I am shit at watching the premieres show. Even abstaining from submitting a vid didn't help my concentration. The chairs are too uncomfortable. I need time to think about each vid after it ends--I spend the first minute of each vid thinking about the previous vid. I don't understand lyrics for shit. But I did love many of the premiering vids. And sitting in the overflow room--where drinking is allowed!--was a wise choice that I must remember next year.

Sunday

Challenge and Auction: I always love the Challenge show. I think having a theme for all the vids helps me follow them or something. Will rec favorites below.

Would it make sense to switch the order of Challenge and Auction? Since we don't discuss the Auction vids? Seems like it'd be easier? But then maybe Challenge discussion would never end . . .

That got a lot longer than I expected. *shrugs*

Blue (multi) by kuwdora. I love this vid, and I love that jarrow's face was still blue when it played.

A Different Kind of Love Song (multi) by giandujakiss. More fandom meta! Awesome!

Ride to California (Avengers/MCU) by bradcpu. SHINY SHINY OMG SHINY. This is my current vid obsession.

What Makes You Beautiful (Merlin) by elipie. In which Arthur is still!! clueless about Merlin's magic, but not about Merlin's ass.

Vids That Go Bump in the Night

Raspberry Swirl (Suspiria) by sol_se. I'm not a big Argento fan, but I loved this.

666 (The Omen) by Dogstar. I didn't think I'd ever be able to find The Omen creepy again after reading Good Omens so many times, but this vid managed it.

Premieres

Intro vid!!!!!!!! by greensilver. Those are always great, but this one works well out of context, too.

Fields of Gold (The Unusuals) by barkley. Such a great showing for all the characters. So glad I watched that show for Jeremy Renner.

The Adventure (Harry Potter) by greensilver. I did just fine watching this in the show, but watching it again at home turned me into a sobbing mess. At least they were happy tears.

Let Me Put My Love into You (Bitch Slap) by sweetestdrain. One of those cases where I didn't really like the movie but love the vid.

Hologram (Iron Man) by sisabet. Oh Tony. I love the little ways she sells the concept, like using Tony's reflection.

Everything Is Wrong (Community, Britta) by laurashapiro. This was the vid of the con for me. I haven't found the words yet. Just, Britta, you magnificent disaster.

Carry On (Captain America: TFA) by settiai. Wonderfully sweet.

Real Wild Child (Lost Girl) by jetpack_monkey. Fine, I give. I'll watch Lost Girl.

Barton Hollow (Homeland) by fan_eunice. I'm still not going to watch Homeland, dammit. But this vid is captivating.

Anything for Love (Thor, meta) by astolat and cesperanza. I think we were all already chuckling before the vid began, waiting to see Vidders' Ids Gone Wild, but then it was even more awesome.

Challenge

Summer of '69 (Doctor Who) by greensilver. Spoiled me a bit, but totally worth it. Oddly, this was the earworm of the con for me, followed shortly by Moves Like Jagger.

What I Am (Incredible Hulk--2008) by sisabet and people? I assumed this would be funny--the Hulk to Edie Brickell?--but it quickly convinced me to take it seriously and left me flailing.

Future Proof (Chronicle) by obsessive24. Have added this movie to the watch list.

Dead and Gone (Game of Thrones, Arya) by anoel. Arya, baby! God, I worry about her so much.

Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas and stuff) by jetpack_monkey. I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it, but it's so much fucking fun.

Jag Svar (Smallville, kinda) by lunate8 and people? It's a fanvid of a fanvid. Also, SWIFTWIND.

Auction

Mama Said Knock You Out (Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra) by absolutedestiny. Worth it for the footwork alone.

Mr. Brightside (The Talented Mr. Ripley) by jarrow. Oh, is that what that movie is like? Nice. I'll add that to the watch list, too.

Moves Like Jagger (multi) by kuwdora. This vid is completely insane in all the best ways.

I can't believe I just typed all that. And now I'm absolutely too tired to go to that faculty mixer, which was the plan all along.

Second: This time next week, I will be at Vividcon!! \o/ I didn't do a premiere this year. Apparently, I can either do a CVV vid or a premiere, but not both, and I did a CVV vid this year. But this will be the first year I'll actually be at Club Vivid when my vid premieres. Aaaand I'll probably be hanging out in the courtyard and miss it. *shrugs*

Just got back from THE MOVIE. OMG it is glorious. From the amount of laughter, I'd say our theater audience (matinee--mostly families) loved it. Yes, Muggles, this is Joss Whedon. Kneel before your new master.

I want Compromised!Clint/Loki fic. What.

Coulson is not dead. The cards were a lie, which suggests the rest of it was, too. After all, we didn't see the medics declare Coulson dead--we just had Fury say they did.

I, like everyone else, am totally surprised by how much I love Bruce here. I'm even more surprised because I've always thought Ruffalo was kind of blah, but I just adored him as Bruce. And I was very disappoint that in the pan down Stark Tower/new Avengers HQ, we didn't see Bruce geeking out in the R&D department. I hope post-movie Avengers fic has lots of Tony & Bruce being bros.

Joss was born to write for RDJ.

I don't ship Thor/Loki, but I think Joss does. Seriously, that was the snuggliest arguing I've ever seen.

I've never seen any of Chris Evans' movies on the big screen, and I've never been that impressed with his face, but damn. Either he's much prettier in this movie than he was in CA, or he just looks really fucking good when his eyelashes are the length of my hand.

Some favorite moments, with some likely highly-inaccurate quotes:

Steve breaking up the Tony/Thor fight.

"He's adopted."

Jonah is not a role model.

"Better clench up, Legolas."

"His first name is Agent."

Tired!Steve after rescuing those people. That lovely pan is going to be in ALL the vids.

The helicarrier makes Steve lose his bet.

And oh god, oh god, Loki thunking his spear on Tony's arc reactor. I almost spit out my coffee just remembering that scene.

So I was grading shit at work today, listening to Pandora, and Kings of Leon's "Happy
Alone" came on. The part of my brain that's always auditioning potential vid songs perked up, and I thought, ooh, I wanna vid that.

And then two seconds later, I realized I had already vidded that song. This happens all the time.

And two seconds after that, I though that if we had a vidding meme like fanfic flamingo or podfic platypus, then I could tell it of my sorrow.

Festivids euphoria

*blissful sigh* Festivids. You guyyyyyys, seriously. I've been watching vids for, like, four of the last six hours, so I'm bleary right now, but I got THREE vids this year, and I need to show you them.

Little Bad Girl. This is a wonderfully cracky and completely awesome Cry-Baby vid. There's dancing and motorcycle riding and singing and Johnny Depp licking things. I fell completely in love with it in the first ten seconds.

The Devil takes care of his own. Even if you don't wanna watch George Clooney and Juliette Lewis kill vampires, you should watch this through Salma Hayek's dance. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. I love the song the vidder used. This vid is my favorite combination of sexy and gory. Whatever that says about me. O.o.

Gone (A Moral Imperative). REAL GENIUS VID. It's adorable and funny, but damn if it isn't also incredibly moving. BLESS THEIR LITTLE FACES. And how perfect is this song?! *screams into fists* Also, LAZLO.

P.S. I haven't really been counting, but looks like some surprise contenders for Festivids patron saint this year are Val Kilmer, Will Smith, Michael Keaton, and Sylvester Stallone? Although Bruce Willis--still going strong. Hmmm.

Honestly, I haven't seen this movie in at least 15 years, but I absolutely loved it back in 1980-whatever. I remember the cougar being awesome? Oh, and if you want to vid Madonna to a Madonna song? I'm all for that.

From Dusk till Dawn
Still my favorite George Clooney movie. Again, anything from serious to complete crack would be fine, but whatever you do, please include Salma Hayek dancing with the snake.

X-Men: The Animated Series
Hee! Okay, a Charles/Mags focus would be great, but you're welcome to do whatever. I adore Rogue, Storm, Logan, Jean, and yes, I adore Scott. Jubilee, um, less so, but she has her moments.

So, pretty much since VVC, I've been devoting all my non-working time to reading X-Men comics and working on a live action/comics Charles/Erik vid. Right now, it's embarrassingly over-the-top DRAMA, but honestly, I don't how one could vid their relationship from the comics without being incredibly OTT.

Here's Charles and Erik eating dinner in the house they're sharing on a deserted island while they plan their new civilization. Mags cooked.

It's either curtain!fic or I KILL YOU! with them; there's no middle ground.

VVC 2011 report

My second VVC! In which I did many things and hugged many people and watched many vids and drank EVERYTHING. I'm not going to try to name people from dinner and such, but if I had lunch/dinner with you or we hung out, know that I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Thursday

Ran into mresundance waiting for the hotel shuttle at the airport. Wigged him out until he recognized me. :)

Hotel lobby! Last year was my first VVC, and it took a day or so for me to adjust to online people being real people and to people actually wanting to meet me. But I quickly realized that VVC people are the friendliest, most delightful people in the world. Many people go out of their way to make newbies feel welcome. But this year, I was so ready to see everyone again and have hugs and talk more. I actually talked too much this year. Really, I lost my voice from the talking.

Hung out in the lobby, saw lots of people, met bradcpu for the second time ;), met rhoboat and jarrow's friend jspencer1986 (everyone adored him and wanted to keep him forever). Then there was much lounging and pouncing on other people as they arrived.

Then dinner, registration, glomping, and way2busymom and crazywritinfool were lovely and drove kuwdora and me to Dominick's for party supplies and helped us carry stuff to kuwdora's room.

Hung out in the courtyard where there was much wailing about the lack of seperis.

Friday

Lunch—lovelokest and I tracked down Blue Curacao for deejay’s awesome Mystique drinks. Rosemount liquor store FTW!

I missed the Constructed Reality vidshow but made it to the panel. greensilver did a fabulous job creating categories useful for discussing ways in which vids use external source and providing examples for those. And some interesting points were brought up related to where one draws the line between, say, the constructed reality of a slash vid that focuses on a non-canonical relationship in a single source and the constructed reality of something like a crossover or fusion vid. However, I was a bit frustrated at some of the responses. And I’ll just leave that, except—suspension of disbelief, this is a thing to try for constructed reality vids.

2. I am intrigued. At some point, I may post asking people who know stuff about comics to show me where to find the things. Must. Find. Followed by water and Ibuprofen. And at some point, I ended up in the courtyard with Luminosity, where I asked her to tell me what she wanted from Supernatural season 7. That was awesome, but it doesn’t really matter what she’s talking about; I can sit, chin in hands, and listen to her talk about anything. Is that creepy? That’s probably creepy.

Also, I’ve been avoiding fan_eunice’s Dreams for two years, and then I ended up guarding the door in this show. So I told her beforehand that I wasn’t going to watch her vid, and I totally turned around to face the wall while it played. So the people sitting near me probably thought I was rude, but maybe not since they were all too busy SOBBING to notice me.

Woke up at 11:30, missed vid review. Eh. Hung out with people and had some food with other people.

Bad Fic reading!

I wandered in and out of the bad fic readings—-shit is terrifying. Hung out in the courtyard a lot.

Then more stuff and bed.

Monday

Breakfast at Mac's, threw stuff in suitcase, HUGS, shuttle full of fangirls and jarlsberg71. kuwdora and I ate lunch at the airport Chili's and heard "I Swear" on the radio. Haunted by catbaby! (Investigate the #catbaby tag at twitter if you haven't already. We must stop Milly from killing catbaby!)

Then snuggling, plane, home, sleeeeeeeep.
