So, today for work I went to a public meeting about creating a sewer district. The meeting was huge (180), and very heated (although civil, thanks to police presence, I'm sure).

However, the interesting part occurred on the way back. The clouds look weird, and I turn to look, and notice that they're touching the ground. And spinning. Closer to the car then I'd like.

We heard later that we actually weren't imagining things, according to a storm report:

            between the towns of Waldron and St. Paul. Damage has
            been seen to telephone poles and wires down.

Now, as I had just been discussing with someone a few days ago- this is the first tornado I've actually been near. And it's most definitely the first tornado I've ever SEEN. It seriously was something out of twister- this wasn't a skinny, piddly little tornado- this is one that probably could have picked up a cow, or two (or maybe it's the same one?)

It's Snowing Like Crazy!

So, my area is getting a shit ton of snow over today and tomorrow. Walking to work today, I was watching the snow come down, and admired the huge flakes- you don't see them very often.

Before long, I found myself fondly remembering the last nearly perfect snow I'd seen. Mike, my Roommate Rachael, Jimmy Hoffa, and I were wandering across the UE campus, on our way to watch a campus showing of Road to Perdition. The air was still, the flakes the biggest we'd ever seen, and a more perfect snowball snow had never existed.

I remember us having such a good time, walking across the circle, throwing snowballs and running around with abandon. It sticks in my head as one of my best days.

It has been absolutely forever since I've updated.

Things have been going well here. Mike's job is good, and things are always interesting at the library. We've been doing a resume class at work- which means that I've been doing a lot of research on proper resume formats. I can't believe how many changes have occurred even since I've graduated. I don't relish having to do a job hunt in the near future, so hopefully that won't happen for a while.

The house is good... for some reason our shower doesn't believe in getting as hot as the sinks do, so we'll most likely need to have a plumber come out at some point. We also need to do some better insulating- gas is super expensive, I'll tell you. However, it's not as bad as the oil heat in PA was, so I can't complain too much.

I've slowly been trying to purge and organize things. It's just not my natural state, but I would like to have people over and not be embarrassed to show off any room in the house. So, we'll keep working on it. We just have too much stuff for a limited amount of space. Eventually, though, I think things will even out.

The cats are doing well- Hex is going to get fixed in a few weeks, which will make things nicer. She went into heat a few weeks ago, and while it wasn't the worst Mike's ever heard, she was pretty damn annoying. Mogwai likes having her around, which is very good. He's actually be a scary little "guard cat" lately- hissing and yowling at any cats that happen to come by the house. And since there are a lot of outdoor cats in the neighborhood, and the cat lady lives next door, there are a lot that come through.

We're working on the grand video reorganization project- we've pretty much decided to get rid of the VHS (over time) and upgrade them to DVD. This, of course, means we're only replacing about 100 movies- we've cleaned out more that we don't care to pay to replace. This will keep us from having to purchase another bookcase for quite a while- the VHS really ate up a lot of room.

At this point, though, I am going to go and work on cleaning the kitchen. I have a new toy (a steam cleaner!) to play with- it helped make the bathroom cleaning go much more quickly. I feel so pathetic, going off to have fun with my new cleaning thing. lol.

Tonight we adopted a new kitty. She's twelve weeks old, black, and a-freakin-dorable. Right now we think she's going to be Hecate, or Hex for short, as we are not physically capable of actually calling our cats by name.

I haven't forgotten that I'm supposed to post about the Canada trip. I have tomorrow off, so I'm hoping to sit down and do it then.

She had been acting very lethargic lately, so we took her to the vet this morning.

It turned out she had a tumor, which had become infected, coupled with acute renal failure (when the kidneys shut down, for those of you who don't watch House).

We had to put her to sleep this morning. From worried to time of passing, it took less than 50 minutes.

Right now I wish that I had a picture of her to put up to show her off. She was a great cat, and we are going to miss her desperately.

UE Community Input Needed Regarding the Potential Sale of WUEV

The University has received an offer from an interested party to purchase the campus radio station, WUEV, a non-commercial station broadcasting at 6100 watts on the frequency 91.5 FM. If the station is purchased, the University may investigate replacing WUEV with a station broadcasting exclusively to the UE campus. Currently, there are no academic ties between WUEV and a UE academic program, nor ties with the Center for Student Engagement.

Will you please share your input to assist in considering pros and cons of this endeavor?

For example, pros of selling the station might include generating additional income for the University, reducing expenses and reallocating space occupied by WUEV in Olmsted for other programs. Cons could include the fact that the station has a long history of providing service to the campus and community as well as the broadcast of both men and women Division I athletics events.

For those of you who have not visited our apartment, we have a lovely lake view, complete with large quanties of goose crap. There is a small yard and sidewalk, but to get to the parking lot, you must walk around the back of the building. This is, of course, important.

Yesterday we had quite the spectacle to entertain us. I hear something odd, and look out the window, only to see a quite large Chevy truck sitting in the middle of the yard surrounded by five guys.

Apparently when moving, one should never carry boxes the fifty feet to the parking lot, but instead pull the car around the side of the building and into the grass. Please note that the best time to back a Chevy onto grass is after three straight days of rain.

They spent three hours trying to get the thing unstuck. We, as well as our neighbors, were quite amused.

So, we made it home from Indiana in one piece, much to the dismay of all the Ohio drivers that tried to run us off the road.

In job hunt news, it's going very well. I had a job interview with the Mt. Vernon apartment complex people while I was in Evansville. They seemed to be very interested in my web design background, although I'm not sure they'll think I'm qualified to run their complex. (and considering it'd be over fifty apartments and 100 self storage thingies, I'm not sure I'd be qualifed either.) But, you never know. *keeps fingers crossed*

My most promising job prospect right now, however, would bring me back to Indiana, but not to Evansville. The very small library that I worked for during high school has just fired their desk supervisor. They happened to do this the very morning I was getting ready to leave town, so I popped by to see if they thought it would be remiss of me to apply for the position. Apparently they are eagerly awaiting my application, which is a very, very good sign. And, since it would give me weekends free, then I would actually be able to come down and visit Evansville more like once a month (or more), rather than once a year. The plus side to this as well is that the salary would be enough for Mike and I to actually live on, and there would be health insurance available. Any money he made could be used to pay down debt.

While I was in Indianapolis I also got to meed my future sister-in-law. Yep, you read that right. The oldest of my three brothers is (all but officially) getting married to his girlfriend in 2007. She's absolutely adorable, and they're cute as a button together.

It was absolutely wonderful being back in town again. I always hate going home to reading at the end of every Indiana vacation. It's so depressing :( I am, however, taking heart in the fact that the next time we make the long drive out to the midwest it will be to stay, instead of having to leave everyone yet again.

But our insurance rates just went down!

We almost took out a pre-teen on a bike today.

We were driving down one of the roads near our house on our way to work, and proceeded through a green light (that had been green for a little while.) This asshole kid comes flying through the intersection on his bike. We were *literally* five inches away from taking him out by the time both he and Mike stopped. Thank God that Mike has good reflexes. And I'm really glad I hadn't learned to drive yet, because if I'd been the one behind the wheel, the kid would be dead.

Today I met a man who wanted to purchase something for his girlfriend. They had been together three months. She lives in Iowa. They met in Cancuan. I thought that was interesting.

I also had an older gentleman who wanted to get something for his girlfriend of 8 monthes. He didn't *really* care what it was, because he thought she looked good in anything. It just had to be red. Apparently she's a red fan.

Some of the guys coming in right now are really sweet.

I am planning on coming to Indiana to visit for a week surrounding May 7th. My last college friend is graduating, and I can't let him be the only person I didn't see walk. :)

Well, it's been an interesting year. I changed jobs this year more times than ever before (three), had my first year of being married (it's not so bad), and learned that certain medications make me really, really depressed. lol

Happily, I'm talking to my family again, which is a big change from last year. Our cats are doing well, we were mostly healthy, and at the close of the year we have more potential fiscal choices than ever before. When all is said and done, this really has been a pretty decent year.
