Oh dear - I have a whole pile of WiPs, and little time to work on any of them. The Purimgifts one has to be done, so it is being prioritised. (It's about 2/3 done). But of course once I decide to work on one fic I get ideas for the others. *headdesk*

ETA: Well, shit. My computer crashed and lost a whole half of what I'd written. Dammit.

In actually finished fic news, I have written a couple of things for the Three Sentence Ficathon. Fill prompts, leave prompts! Teeny tiny fics!

Ficlet: Doctors and Demons (Dr Who)

For derien

"At least this world is sunny," Yaz said, turning her face upwards. "Not that the Rainpools of Fliuch weren't scenic –"

"And deep," Ryan said, shivering. "Very deep."

"And stretching to the horizon," Graham added.

The Doctor laughed and popped a pair of enormous goggles on her face before staring up at the sun.

"You all said you could swim. And the sea serpents mostly just wanted to play. It is nice and warm, though." She led them down the dusty narrow street, looking up at the blank mud-brick walls on either side. She poked at a doorway and bent over to look at a bowl half-buried beside it. "Hmmm."

"Where are we?" Ryan asked, looking back at the two figures cautiously following them.

"Oh. Earth, didn't I say? Hello! You two!"

The two figures ran back a bit and stared from a distance. They seemed to be a pair of teenagers dressed in yellow tunics, the boy's reaching to his knees and the girl's to her ankles.

"Where are we?" Yaz said. "And when?"

"Bronze Age Sumer," Ryan and Graham chorused as the Doctor opened her mouth.

"What? How would you know?"

"'S that, isn't it?" Ryan said, pointing at a statue at the crossroads. "That's Pazuzu, Demon King of the Winds, that is."

"Oh, right," the Doctor said as Yaz rolled her eyes.

"How would you know about demon kings of anything, Ryan?"

Ryan and Graham exchanged a disbelieving glance.

"It's in The Exorcist," Ryan said.

"It's only one of the most famous films ever," Graham added.

"Yeah, it's proper class."

"I hope it's not going to start puking pea soup," Yaz muttered.

"I have no idea what you're all talking about," the Doctor said cheerfully, in a way that indicated she was terribly charmed by the whole thing.

"Excuse me for interrupting your invocation of Pazuzu," the teenage girl said, coming up to stare at them from a closer distance. "Are you gods or demons?"

"Neither!" the Doctor said. "Hello, I'm the Doctor. This is my fam – Yaz, Ryan and Graham."

"You're the doctor?" the girl said. She turned to the boy behind her. "She says she's the doctor."

Both the Doctor and Yaz sighed.

"Yes, I know, formal education, men, book learning apparently kept in a very odd place –" the Doctor started as Yaz thought about just shaking some girl power into everyone in the ancient world.

"Huh?" the girl said, turning back. "What're you on about? My mum's a scribe. It's just, well, I could believe that she's a doctor –" she pointed at Yaz, "or him -" she pointed at Ryan.

"Score," Ryan muttered.

" – but someone who looks as barbaric as you? That's just weird. Sorry."

The Doctor blinked, then grinned, wide and cheerful. "I'm from a strange and exotic civilisation. What makes Yaz look like a doctor?"

"Harappans are awful clever. Have you got some good spells, Doctor Yaz?"

"Me?" Yaz said. The Doctor made go on gestures at her. "Yeah. Yeah – sure. With the help of my assistant Ryan who looks like a doctor as well, seeing as he's . . ." she looked quizzically at the girl.

"From ancient Egypt," Ryan said. He paused. "I mean, just Egypt," he said.

"Whereas we're from far-distant and exotic London," Graham said, and stepped on the Doctor's toe when she tried to correct him. "Don't argue, Doc."

"You said you're expecting a doctor?" the Doctor said. "I arrange consultations with Doctor Yaz, here. These are our credentials –" She held up the psychic paper.

The girl peered at it, took it as if it weighed more than paper and showed it to the boy before handing it back.

"You've really cast demons out of the king's daughters?"

The Doctor looked at the paper, and nodded solemnly.

"All of them."

"All the daughters, or all the demons?" Ryan whispered to Yaz. "She's really bigging you up."

"Shush, you. You're working for the world-famous Doctor Yaz," Yaz whispered back. "Whatever's wrong, the TARDIS first aid kit should be able to take care of it."

"May all the gods be praised that you've come to us!" the girl said, her face suddenly alight in what everyone realized was relief. She seized Yaz's arm, then lifted her hand and kissed it. "I'm Bunu-Nidaba and this is my brother Utu-andulli. We hadn't thought a doctor would reach our street so quickly! Please, come quickly with your strongest spells – a powerful demon has possessed our younger brother and is making him say the most awful things."

Yaz swallowed and looked at Ryan.

"Remind me again," she said, "how the plot of The Exorcist goes?"

Fic: A Father's Blessing (Tanakh)

For seekingferret

In Gen 49, Jacob inflicts some rather unusual blessings on his sons.

‘Benjamin is a ravenous wolf,
in the morning devouring the prey,
and at evening dividing the spoil.'

He should have escaped the curse. He was the son of his father's extreme old age, the one who replaced Joseph-who-was-lost. Who knew that the old man had really loved Rachel so much, that he would remember her dying words at the end of his own life and bring down their child to the level of the beasts? The others, his older brothers, they were more than half-beast already but him - he had been gently raised, told all his life how much he resembled his mother and his dear, dead brother. And now –

The One who Guarded his kin had the mercy that the curse did not come upon him at the time of the family feast of the New Moon. It was the fullness of the Moon that brought the evil, when he could not keep himself abed, or watching the flocks with the dogs like a man should. On those nights he took himself far from the camp, out of shame and fear that he would prey upon his own. And so he fell upon the sheep of the Egyptians in the land of Goshen, and upon their shepherd-folk, and in all ways acted more as beast than man.

And when the madness lifted he returned unto his own until the next fullness of the Moon, and was the meek and comely man all knew. And if any saw the sons of bereft Egyptian maidens round about or the wolf puppies that their bitches littered they kept silent, and none spoke of how such young looked upon the world with Benjamin's eyes.
In general, I like fics that either emulate the style of the source material or that work to subvert that style in an interesting way. I love happy endings, first time stories, stories about friendship, adventure stories, introspective pieces, comedies and angst! I love AUs and crossovers, if you're struck by one of those (my Ao3 profile should give you a hint as to the fandoms I know) - in spaaaaace is always a winner for me, as is "they fight crime"!
As for my DNWs, graphic non-consensual sex; sex with children written as erotica and graphic harm to children and animals are not my fictional cup of tea.

If you'd like a little more information about what I like in the fandoms I asked for, here's what I enjoy about them:

Fix Bay'nets: Oh, George Manville Fenn, how I love his slashy, slashy mind! I love the class-crossing, workers's rights-approving, anti-imperialist, non-racist, non-syrupy-religious, hand-holding, heroic adventure-having manliness of it all. (And while some of that list might need "for his time" appended, its clear from the content of his books that GMF did put forward such views). I adore the innuendo, innocent or not, and the real and clear love (of whatever kind) his characters have for each other. I especially love Bracy and Gedge and the way they support each other and play to each other's strengths. (And the way they are very clearly kissing in between the paragraphs).

Some possible suggestions: I'd adore a Bracy/Gedge or a Bracy/Roberts or Bracy/Gedge&Roberts story that emulates the tone of the book! First time; set after the book ends; soldiers surprised by falling for each other's manly charms; crazy Victorian ideas on science and exploration would all be marvellous. Or a modern setting as soldiers in the 20th or 21st century, or a cross-over with another fandom you feel would suit! Lots of manly innuendo, please!

As this is a Victorian-era book, it's fine to have Victorian-era English attitudes, but within the book itself both Bracy and Roberts criticise imperialism and Gedge makes any number of pointed remarks about the class system, so don't feel the Victorians were all of one opinion on social issues! Go wild! I'll be gleeful!

Hut 33: I just love the madcap humour of the storylines, the very funny (and deliberately terrible) jokes and the use of the 1940s to comment on the present day. I enjoy the class warfare between Charles' snobbery and Archie's inverted snobbery, Gordon's never-ending innocence and desire to lose it as comprehensively a possible and of course, the terror of Bletchley Park, Minka. The more Minka the better, really, she's just great.

Some possible suggestions: I'd really like either an ensemble story with the Hut 33 gang, getting up to their usual less than stellar shenanigans, or something concentrating on one or two of them! Something comedic that emulates the somewhat surreal tone of the series, please! Gen, het and slash are all fine.
Do the staff of Hut 33 discover a famous man Mrs Best *hasn't* slept with (is such a thing even possible)? What terrible plan does Archie and/or Charles come up with this time? What's Minka's life story this week?

Eight Days of Luke: I love David's loyalty to Luke and their friendship, and Luke's reciprocation of that, as best he can. I enjoy the sense of time and place, with the humans so anchored in their place and time, and the ways in which the Norse pantheon adapt themselves to fit – with more or less success - the expectations of England in the 1970s. But David's and Luke's friendship, whether as pre-teen boys or as grateful deity and adopted human friend is what makes it for me! I really like book-like Humour, historical settings, Hurt/Comfort for this fandom.

Some possible suggestions: I'd love a story in which Luke intervenes to make David's life better. His idea of better, of course. This could be set soon after the events of the book (when David is twelve) or at a later point. Or David is brought to the Norse era or whatever is currently between Asgard and Jotenheim, or possibly sees something mythical Luke wishes he hadn't. Or Sigyn and/or Thor attempt to repay properly David for freeing Luke/finding Mjolnir and Luke ends up needing to clear up after them – which may lead to a recursive spiral of trouble, of course! (I'm not familiar with MCU versions of Asgard/Jotunheim, if that will have any bearing on a crossover or fusion you might wish to write).

Either slash or gen is fine, but if David is the age he is in the book, please keep any slash g-rated.

Tanakh and Midrash: I love the David story and the story of Saul's family. Saul as a tragic hero (along with Jonathan and Abner as doomed heroes) has always been appealing to me, and I'm just very fond of Iron Age settings in general, and love the history and archaeology.

Some possible suggestions: I'd be delighted with a story set in Saul and Abner's youth, before there was a king in Israel – perhaps called up to fight by Samuel against the Philistines, or one set in Saul's early kingship when things are going well, or one somewhat later when things are beginning to go wrong, but Jonathan and David have their friendship and are acclaimed young warriors. David (and other heroes of the texts) get acclaimed as giant-killers – maybe Jonathan and David could go up against some other impressive and/or legendary opponent?

In all cases for Saul and Abner or Jonathan and David slash and gen are both fine. (I would prefer Saul/Abner and Jonathan/David if you want to write slash). If you want to concentrate on the older characters, background mentions of the younger ones is more than enough, and vice versa.

If you would prefer to avoid an Iron Age Israel setting, I'd certainly be keen to see Saul's family tragedy in spaaaaaace!

The Ambassadors of Sorrow

Indulging in some nostalgia before work, I am listening to The Ambassadors of Sorrow (and their bandcamp site ), and "The Birds of the Air" really is King David looking back on his youthful love affair with Jonathan.

<lj-embed id="152" />

Anyway, they're great!
Birthday!

Happy birthday, derien!

A tiny drabble for you!

Secret Ingredient

"What is this?" Aziraphale said, making a disgusted face. "It's utterly vile. I thought you were bringing wine?"

"It's the real thing," Crowley said, refilling his glass. "You should like it, the ads used to be all about world peace and choral singing." He grinned wickedly. "If you want I could get you a diet version."

"No thanks," Aziraphale said, miracling a double vodka into his glass. "I've never liked this stuff since they took the cocaine out of the recipe."

He smiled in beatific glee at Crowley's open-mouthed expression. The dear boy would insist on believing in his innocence.

Romans and Druids and Elephants, oh my

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Yes. Brittannia is coming back, to my intense televisual joy! And the trailer for season 2 indicates that season 1 should be retrospectively be seen as a sedate, calm, sensible sort of thing. *rolls around in glee*

<lj-embed id="150" />

Oh, yes. Between this and my current glee over Good Omens, I am a happy viewer.

Deirdre Cole, plagiarist

Deirdre Cole! Can you hear me, Deirdre Cole?

I can see that you like my Weiss Kreuz fic Mars Assassins, but I'm not pleased that you copied it and published it on Amazon as a Kindle e-book under your pen name, Deirdre Cole. I've lodged a complaint about it.

Her other books are pretty clearly also scraped from the Ao3 - there's no filing off of identifying details, the books are all fanfics published as original works. They're all long, and in unrelated fandoms, written some time ago.

Write your own material, Deirdre Cole.

Wildest Dreams: Never in her wildest dreams did Veronica expect this to be Logan's life four years after she left Neptune at the end of her freshman year of college. The original, by lisawolfe80

Shades of Choi: It was supposed to just be an interview. Nothing more, nothing less. Little did Kyuhyun know, his life would forever change once he entered Room 11 to interview a Mr. Choi. The original, by yffismydrug
