I love the title ‘Cuidate’, that’s what brought me here and to be honest, it’s a word I’ve barely paid attention to. It’s said on auto pilot. But after reading this I think I’ll say it with more intentionality now.
I’m a woman discovering, embracing and slowly loving the woman she’s become postpartum.
I love that Jemima and I resonate deeply because it was something I said and never really tended to.
Yes I love this season of you discovering, becoming, embracing, all done at a slow pace. Postpartum is a wild journey but a beautiful one too. I hope you're being tender with yourself. Cuidate.
I was drawn to this account due to the tite. I use Cuidate often. I was born and raised in Ethiopia and now live in Chicago. My friends call me their honorary Latina as I learned Spanish whilst dancing salsa and listening to Celia Cruz. Below are the quotes I use to remember who I am and bring me home to myself. I continue to dive into this healing journey that never ends and I am grateful to find this grounding space.
What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how it is supposed to be.
"The wound is the place where the light enters you." ~ Rumi
"You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens." ~ Rumi
Hilal, Thank you so much for joining the community. I love that you use cuidate often. It's literally a love song to my ears now. And I'm cracking up at Celia Cruz. I love her!
Thank you for sharing those quotes with me. I love the last one, keep breaking your heart until it opens. I'm in a season where I am finding abundance in the brokenness and it's been a bittersweet journey.
“…I began to say to myself as I tended my plants and endured another miscarriage…” Holding your words and our shared experience for a while. How much this simple sentence is carrying indeed. 🙏“Cuidate!”
I realized how to actually pronounce Cuidate. I’m a little embarrassed to say I wasn’t sure until today. Being Puerto Rican I remember hearing that phrase as well. Something like, “cuidate mija.” This memory made me smile from head to toe. Thank you for that. Thank you for this space. 🤎
Tania thank you for sharing that with me. I'm so glad this phrase not only resonates but that you finally understand what it means, I bet it makes the memory even more beautiful. Cuídate.
I am someone who struggles with managing my own internal garden - love this idea of managing our internal garden. My fingers are in pain and they bare the scars of life, some deep, some deeper. But I have my wife to support me and my children to inspire me. So, each day I get up, get ready for the day and do my best to get through until I collapse into my bed for another night of troubled sleep. I want to create and be creative but my own fear holds me back. I’d love to read more about inspiring art and being creative.
Dawud, I completely understand as I've been currently weeding out my internal garden. I'm so glad that amidst pain you've got support holding your hands when you feel that you can't. I hope that as you take time to tend your inner garden, fear is something that you weed out. That you continue to see it, feel it, and remove it every time it sprouts. It can be good to fear things but not to the point where it holds you back. I'll be sharing more about creativity in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned.
I had to use Google translate to find out what cuidate meant, but your explanation exudes so much warmth. I’m thankful that I found your newsletter this Monday afternoon!
I am a woman in the process of honing my light and owning my voice.
I am a dreamer reclaiming the time I used to devote to daydreams and wonder.
Nathalie, I never paid much mind to it as well. But as we live quite far from each other, it's as if every word is sacred to me. I agree, words hold so much weight, so many lessons and reminders.
Thank you for sharing your input I'll be sure to add some tips on grief and add on some Mindful Art sessions.
We have the shared experience of ending our harmful marriages and rebuilding, while working through all of the emotions that exist in that growth. I came across this today and also thought of you. It resonated so truly with my experience.
It taught me things I did not know, but understood upon reading, as I had lived it. It affirmed the roughest time of my life last year, while I grieved so hard, even though I felt freer and safer, yet still so lost, confused, and overwhelmed by all of my emotions.
I'm thrilled to belong to your community. Looking forward to honest chats, mindfulness and finding magic for my soul. My heart is open, eyes wide. I am a sister, daughter, mother and grandmother, my life is full :)
and thank you for this intentional space. i am thankful to have been led here to this vortex of yours, titled - 'cuidate'..
i am a forever beginner, becoming again and again, emerging from her chrysalis.. titled as community auntie, sister, kinfolk, the talented artist, sunflower, facilitator..
while i answered your poll, i did not consider that i could only choose one.. i'd welcome and participate in more mindful art sessions when and if you choose to share those. until again, cuídate <3
Hi Josefina… I am new to the writing world and Substack in general, so I just happened to stumble upon a note you wrote… about giving up perfection and leaning into grace. I loved it! So when I clicked your name and the first thing that popped up was that you love God I knew He was at work! It’s a blessing to connect with other Daughters of the King! This space that you have created is beautiful! I absolutely love it and will be hitting the subscribe button. I can only hope and pray that I will be able to create a space similar to yours as I continue to tiptoe into my own writing adventure. Anyway, just know that I am so happy to have found your ‘stack and will be cheering you on, Sis! Send you all the love! 🩷
I love the word "cuidate" the word carries so much love, compassion, understanding. Thank you for sharing this.
Yes. It’s a word that I never truly paid attention to when I was younger. But over the past few years it’s brought deep meaning in my life.
I love that you’ve shared your view on it. Makes it even more meaningful.

What a great title. I heard my abuela's voice as I read your post, "Cuidate, mija. Cuidate!" ❤️
I love that Rosa. I hear so much of my family when I say it, read it. It's definitely one of my favorite words.

I absolutely love that! Welcome, I hope that the words you read encourage you in your path to finding and owning your voice.
I am a deeply caring and empathetic person ♥️
I never really think twice about it when my family says cuídate so thank you for the reminder that words really do hold weight.
The poll is closed so putting my answer here : would love lessons and tips on grief and mindful art sessions!

It brought me more peace, as your writings often do, too.
