[040] Don't Make The Same Mistake

You guys, whatever you do, if you're in the US, don't put your real phone number or email in any webesite while searching for health insurance online. I've gotten heaps of spam. I feel like I could scream. I just feel like throwing my phone. Hubs and I have had a very bad experience with this all. More on that a little later. I will be back to make a regualar post and check my friends page. Sorry I've been away for so long.

[022] A late Earth Day project

Well... Happy Belated Earth Day <s>because I'm always late to the punch >.<</s>

Today was very very lowkey. <strike>I mean isn't mostly every day lowkey with hubs and I??</strike> We don't do a whole lot outside listen to music/podcasts, video games and youtube. Here and there, we will do projects together such as what I'm posting about today. But most projects that happen here are sewing and craft projects that's really only...single player? Lol.

Anyway! The this project was something I've been wanting to do for a while, I just figured it would be a good earth day project. <s>I wanted to plant a tree on that day but didn't have money to go buy said tree </s> So to start, I'm huge on recycling if I can. I never used to be this way, but after seeing videos of trash in the ocean, animals and ocean life suffering and the amount of shit in landfills, it kind of causes some to BSOD -- a blue screen of death -- and have a huuuuge change of heart. I'm huge on recycling now. I've been saving toilet paper rolls for planting seeds and making tubes for a bee house. I'm proud of me though, I put that to use today! The only reason I'm proud is I do like to recycle but sometimes things I want to upcycle just sit around in craft totes and never get touched. I'm horrible at this. (Fair warning, the rest of this post is image <s>and ramble</s> heavy.)

This is everything we used (outside of q-tips). 4 recyclables we used was an old pan that isn't safe to use for food anymore (used for mixing and to carry soil from downstairs to the counter upstairs), the toilet paper rolls of course, a plastic bowl for holding the soil rolls (from a flower basket work sent us) and coffee grounds from anytime I make coffee. (We use a keurig and reusable k-cups). I guess the spoon is technically a recyclable?

So Hubs took the coffee grounds and the extra perlite and mixed it all together in the pan. Using a spoon, I filled the TP rolls with even amounts of soil. I chose to use coffee grounds because they are a very good fertilizer for plant life. While I don't know the specific nutrients they contain, I just know they are good for growth. Using a q-tip, I poked a hole in the middle of the soil (about 1/2in deep), threw one seed in and packed it in lightly.

Because Miracle Gro lol. I mixed water and the plant food together and poured a small amount in each roll. Hubs made the little label tabs with masking tape to help us identify what roll has what seed in it. If you're wondering what the extra little planter is in the middle, I made a boo boo and left a seed out (that we found later, sitting on top of the seed packet when I was done). I didn't know which roll didn't have one in it so I used an extra little pot I had sitting around to plant the seed lol. And that's what the finished project looks like! I excitedly await little sprouts! I will post pictures when they sprout!

[000] Mixed thoughts.

So.. here and there I check up on facebook, as I still have family and friends on there that I care about. I know before I said it quit facebook and that's still the case. I still keep my account active, but I'm no longer active on there. It's kinda weird, but hopefully that makes sense. I still believe that most of facebook is cancer.

-Anyway- I scrolled a little bit to see how people were doing and I found a post... I attached it below so anyone who wanted to read it could:

John Pennington @ Facebook (Bran's note: Above this was a picture of an iphone, plugged into the wall, sitting on the kitchen counter.)
This phone belongs to my 14 year old daughter. It’s charging on my kitchen counter. At 9pm, every single night, her phone shuts itself down and she brings it here.
Why? It’s how I keep her safe.
That phone is free of social media. She has an app that allows her to chat with a handful of friends and family. I know every person she talks to and I check her phone and messages regularly.
Why? It’s how I’m keeping her safe.
My nearly 12 year old son asked me two days ago if I would connect his PS4 to the internet so he could play with friends outside of the house. I said no.
He had a persuasive argument, it was filled with many things I agree with him about. Unfortunately, the good does not outweigh the bad. So, I stuck with the original “no.”
Why? It’s how I am keeping him safe.
These devices, left unchecked, will allow people into our homes at any hour of any day. There is no escape. And I’ve created this home to be an escape.
It’s a safe place for my children. No matter what happens out in the world, I want this house to be their respite, their safe haven, their fortress.
Opening the door to unrestricted internet access allows anyone to enter our home at any time. I’m locking that door.
When it comes to internet access here there is zero privacy. ZERO.
I’ve listened to arguments about privacy and I’ve not heard a single one that made me rethink the safety of my children.
It’s not only their physical safety we are called to guard! We must guard their hearts, their eyes, and their ears until they can make their own rational decisions.
I’m doubling down rather than easing up on this issue. Why? Because I’ve read countless stories of parents who wish they could undo what’s been done.
There are children- CHILDREN- sending pics, videos and other sexual content of themselves to “friends” online.
And it’s not happening out there somewhere- it’s happening in good, solid Christian homes. It’s happening right under our noses.
The fallout of this crisis is yet to be seen. Our boys are exposed to sexual content and pornography years earlier than their fathers and the consequences are immeasurable.
Parents, educate yourselves on the long term damage of early pornography exposure. I know the old adages bring comfort “boys will be boys.” But I call bull. We are excusing life altering behavior by assuming that it’s “just what boys do.” No longer is it magazine photos of girls they will never meet- it’s nude pics of girls in their schools.
This is not fear mongering or helicopter parenting, it’s simply common sense.
Check the phones. Monitor their online presence. If you allow social media make sure you’re one of their most engaged followers.
They probably won’t like that. You’ll get some pushback. Parent anyway.
I tell my children all the time “I’m not here to make friends. It’s okay with me if this makes you unhappy.
Why? It’s how I’m keeping them safe.
-Jenn Kish

I will note that I have no idea who this person is. I'm not friends with them, this post was shared by a friend of mine (who I'm sure shared it from a friend of thiers, so on a so forth). So after reading it, I was left with mixed thoughts. But first I will say I wanted to post it because I genuinely want to know what you guys think about the subject. Usually I just process it through and go 'meh' only to go on about my day and forget it later, but idk, this had me really thinking. So I'll ask you guys, what do you think? Is there anything you'd handle differently? Do you feel this is extreme? Do you feel the parent is justified? (I will leave comments unscreened for now, as this is public post and I welcome anyone -- even those I'm not friends with -- to share their thoughts, but please be nice to each other and respect each other's thoughts.)

[000] Compilation Post!: Crossover/cover songs

So because I think it's a really cool concept when bands play with other bands (cover songs included), I decided I'd make a post of it. I will compile a list of videos of bands playing with other bands over time. If you'd like to see a video added, link it in the comments, but for now I have a few good ones. Feel free to discuss it in the comments with me or others!

<lj-embed id="1" />
Linkin Park with Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows and Synyster Gates - Burn It Down & Faint

<lj-embed id="2" />
Motionless in White - One Step Closer (Originally by Linkin Park)
While the video quality doesn't do Chris' voice justice, his message at the beginning of the song is so heartfelt and powerful.

<lj-embed id="3" />
Daughtry - Feels Like the First Time (Originally by Foreigner)

<lj-embed id="4" />
Motionless in White - Somebody Told Me (Originally by The Killers)

So I apologize for not being around. The mobile lj app is annoying and I’m nearly certain it doesn’t show all my friends posts. I’ve such limited time between the end of day at work and bed time for the next day (I work weekends) but I have exciting news once I’m back but for now, a short hiatus. Need to get through work and have got a project for work between.

[000] Recommendation Post!

So this will be my post where I ask for recommendations on certain things, whether it’s video games, movies, or what not. I may change it every month, I’m not sure.

But current recommendations I’m looking for are:

FITNESS AND WELLBEING APPS!

It can be for iPhone or Android. I have an android tablet and iphone.

Please put all recommendations in the comments! Don’t be afraid, you can comment on it at any time. I will often reference this post in my normal posts anyway.
