The Creative Arc of Courtney Forbes
A self taught painting journey into his visual passion for humour, primary colour fields and graphic contour lines. Particularly those of beloved cartoon characters from the late 1950s into 60s. Here is a comprehensive look at some of the vibrant and playfully erotic interpretations he has conceived and created over the years and continues to invent and explore today.
Exhibition: Dec 11, 2025 – April 30, 2026

Myth & Desire
My cartoony beginnings. After New York street painter Keith Herring died at the outset of 1990, I for one was moved by the great loss of a poignant pop-artist and contemporary painter and felt the need to “pick up the baton” and run with it in that particular field of visual art.
Forms Of Indulgence
In this series I remove the thick black contour lines and replace them with shading, in order to create the divisions between forms and figures in my compositions.
At Second Glance
During this phase of my self painting studies, I explore photographic realism. As the tittle suggests, the viewer must take a second look to confirm if what they are seeing is actually painted or just photographed.
Genuine Insinuations
A selection of collected sticks and stones intensionally painted to imitate the appearance of other life forms actually existing in nature.
Tropical Jungle
Commissioned as design content for the wall papering in a hotel in Basel, Switzerland, this quadriptych was conceived with the fashioned spirit of The Garden Of Earthly Delights, by Hieronymus Bosch in mind.
