Once I finally nailed down that strategy, I created the course.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_did_you_decide_to_create_an_online_course_in_the_first_place\"><\/span>Why did you decide to create an online course in the first place?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I knew that there were tons and tons of new bloggers out there with so many questions, and an online course seemed like the best way to help.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Did_you_have_any_moments_of_doubt_before_you_createdlaunched_it\"><\/span>Did you have any moments of doubt before you created\/launched it?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Sure, I think we all suffer from imposter syndrome from time to time. There were definitely moments where I thought &#x201C;why should they listen to me?&#x201D; or &#x201C;why would they buy my course when so and so&#x2019;s course is also out there.&#x201D;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_so_what_made_you_turn_it_around_and_do_it_anyway\"><\/span>If so what made you turn it around and do it anyway?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I still have those moments sometimes, but as I enroll more and more students into Break Into Blogging and I can see more and more positive results, it really helps with those moments.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What%E2%80%99s_your_online_course_like\"><\/span>What&#8217;s your online course like?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Most lessons in BIB are video lessons (either Keynote slides or screen-sharing for tech tutorials). A few are text-only. Some lessons include downloadable PDF workbooks or checklists or other guides. All <a href=\"https:\/\/coursemethod.com\/tools-transcription.html\">video lessons have a full transcript<\/a> available for download.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30450\" src=\"https:\/\/coursemethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Becca-Klein-2.png\" alt=\"Becca Klein's site\" width=\"899\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coursemethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Becca-Klein-2.png 899w, https:\/\/coursemethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Becca-Klein-2-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/coursemethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Becca-Klein-2-768x417.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 899px) 100vw, 899px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_long_did_it_take_you_to_create_your_course\"><\/span>How long did it take you to create your course?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It&#x2019;s hard to say how long it actually took because I didn&#x2019;t create it all at once. I&#x2019;d say start to finish it was about a year, but with significant gaps within that one year. It was several months of actual work.<\/p>\n<p>My process was fairly straightforward. I started off by making an outline of each module and lesson, with detailed bullet points on what I wanted to cover in each lesson. I don&#x2019;t create scripts, but the bullet points are very detailed. I then create the slides from the outline. And then I record the video using Screenflow, upload it to Vimeo, and embed it into the course, which is hosted on Thrivecart.<\/p>\n<p>Some lessons include a PDF workbook or checklist or something of the sort, so I usually made those after recording the video using Apple Pages or Adobe InDesign.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tell_us_a_little_about_the_process_of_launching_your_course_and_getting_your_first_sales\"><\/span>Tell us a little about the process of launching your course and getting your first sale(s).<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<span class='bctt-click-to-tweet'><span class='bctt-ctt-text'><a href='https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcoursemethod.com%2Fbecca-klein.html&#038;text=I%20actually%20started%20selling%20the%20course%20on%20an%20evergreen%20webinar%20funnel%20before%20I%20launched%20it%20for%20the%20first%20time.%20So%20my%20first%20sales%20were%20from%20that%20funnel.%20-%20Becca%20Klein&#038;via=course_method&#038;related=course_method' target='_blank'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I actually started selling the course on an evergreen webinar funnel before I launched it for the first time. Every sale is like a mini-validation of my ideas and my work.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do_you_have_a_lead_magnet\"><\/span>Do you have a lead magnet?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Yes, I have several and they&#x2019;re always changing (so they may be different by the time you read this). But at the moment, I have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My free masterclass, &#x201C;The Profitable Blogging Framework&#x201D;<\/li>\n<li>A free ebook, &#x201C;10 Beauty Tips For Your Blog&#x201D;<\/li>\n<li>A free ebook, &#x201C;The Blog to Biz Roadmap&#x201D;<\/li>\n<li>A free quiz, &#x201C;Do you know the earning potential for your blog?&#x201D;<\/li>\n<li>A free resource library (available only to subscribers)<\/li>\n<li>And a few other free PDFs that are specific to certain blog posts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of these lead magnets work well (after testing and getting rid of some that didn&#x2019;t work). The free masterclass directly pitches my course, and both the masterclass and all other lead magnets lead to funnels that will eventually pitch the course. Of course not everyone buys, but quite a few do.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What%E2%80%99s_the_traffic_strategy_that_works_best_for_you\"><\/span>What&#8217;s the traffic strategy that works best for you?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Aside from sometimes running Facebook ads to certain blog posts, my best traffic strategy is definitely SEO. I didn&#x2019;t focus on it enough early on and I wish I had.<\/p>\n<p>I have an SEO consultant now and for every blog post I&#x2019;m planning on writing she does the keyword research and gives me an outline of all the headings, along with some tips like how long it should be. It&#x2019;s incredibly helpful and saves me a ton of time.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_online_course_platform_are_you_using\"><\/span>What online course platform are you using?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I use Thrivecart Learn. I used <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"sponsored\" title=\"Teachable home page affiliate link\" href=\"https:\/\/coursemethod.com\/go\/teachable\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Teachable<\/a> for years, but switched to Learn soon after Thrivecart announced it (I was already using Thrivecart as a checkout cart) and I love it.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do_you_like_it\"><\/span>Do you like it?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Yes, definitely. I highly recommend Thrivecart (both as a course platform and a checkout cart).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Are_there_any_features_you_wish_it_had\"><\/span>Are there any features you wish it had?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I wish that it could host videos and downloads. It&#x2019;s a minor inconvenience though. Thrivecart only charges one lifetime fee, so since I had already paid, Learn is completely free for me. I still wouldn&#x2019;t have switched if I didn&#x2019;t like the platform. But I did explore it and almost immediately liked it a lot. A lot was also just from trial and error.<\/p>\n<p>Market Like a Pro from Hirsch Marketing has been very helpful for Facebook ads and funnels. Love Your List from Kate Doster has been great for email marketing. Amy Porterfield&#x2019;s old course, Webinars that Convert, was very helpful for webinars (she no longer offers it, but I think that she covers the same content in one of her other courses).<\/p>\n<p>I&#x2019;ve taken tons of online courses on lots of blog-related subject matters, but those are the ones that spring to mind.<\/p>\n<h2>Do you have any big mistakes you&#x2019;ve made along the way that you&#x2019;d be willing to share?<\/h2>\n<p>I wasted a lot of money on totally ineffectual Facebook ads when I really didn&#x2019;t know what I was doing. I didn&#x2019;t want to invest a lot in an ads course, but I should have done so sooner. Facebook ads aren&#x2019;t something that you can just figure out on your own (for me anyway).<\/p>\n<p>I also regret not investing in a copywriter sooner. Conversion copywriting is just not in my zone of genius, but I was hesitant to pay thousands of dollars for it. I eventually did, and it has paid off greatly. I can see that something I created based on my own expertise is working and is helping people. That&#x2019;s a big ego booster.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do_you_have_a_story_of_a_transformation_from_any_of_your_clients\"><\/span>Do you have a story of a transformation from any of your clients?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I have one student who told me that 6 months to the day from when she enrolled in the course, she officially hit the $5,000\/month mark with her blog and was going to leave her 9-5. That was incredibly gratifying.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_advice_do_you_have_for_people_just_starting_out\"><\/span>What advice do you have for people just starting out?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Just start. Your first course does not need to be a huge comprehensive $997 course with all the bells and whistles. Create a small course for $47 or $97 to get your feet wet.<\/p>\n<p>If you have the budget, I think it&#x2019;s worth it to invest in some good courses about things like sales pages, funnels, Facebook ads, and other course-related stuff like that.
