But for a new author, the sheer amount of information you&#x2019;ll find if you Google &#x201C;How to publish a children&#x2019;s book&#x201D; can be overwhelming. Right now, if you want to enter the publishing industry, it&#x2019;s very easy to find a quick answer to your questions but it can be incredibly difficult to find the <em>right<\/em> answer for <em>you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is part of the reason why I started the <em>Children&#x2019;s Book Masterclass<\/em> &#x2014; to provide absolutely everything you need to know to write, publish and launch your children&#x2019;s book <em>all in one place <\/em>so you don&#x2019;t have to dig through an endless stream of online articles just to end up feeling more confused than you were when you started.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Children&#x2019;s Book Masterclass<\/em> was designed to bring clarity to a confusing industry and help aspiring authors publish their incredible children&#x2019;s books.<\/p>\n<h2>What&#x2019;s the biggest benefit of taking your course?<\/h2>\n<p>The biggest benefit of the <em>Children&#x2019;s Book Masterclass<\/em> is that it gives you a community of support in addition to quality teaching. When I go LIVE to teach the modules, my goal is not to create a classroom &#x2014; my goal is to facilitate a community.<\/p>\n<p>Before every LIVE class, I host a 30-minute connection time where students can share their progress, receive support, and get to know their peers. I always make sure to learn more about my students&#x2019; written stories and their <em>life <\/em>stories. My students truly do inspire me and bring me joy, and I can see this course does the same for them, too.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_did_you_get_into_the_market\"><\/span>How did you get into the market?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>My experience with writing and publishing began in 2012 when I was inspired to write my first manuscript. I had just attended an empowering seminar about the connection between positive mindsets and achieving success in life. I was so deeply moved by what I&#x2019;d learned that, on the plane ride home, I wrote a book so I could teach my children how to believe in themselves. Little did I know how different my life would become from that one decision.<\/p>\n<p>After publishing a series of bestselling and award-winning children&#x2019;s books, my email blew up. Other writers would ask me out for coffee so they could pick my brain and learn how they could do it, too. I was more than happy to share everything I knew.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, it got to a point where I was spending a significant portion of my time on these author dates. I quickly realized that I wasn&#x2019;t the only author who had felt completely lost when it came to publishing my first children&#x2019;s book.<\/p>\n<p>As I brainstormed how I could respond to this need on a wider scale, I remembered one wish I had had as I published my first children&#x2019;s book &#x2014; a mentor. I soon realized it was my duty to be that mentor for today&#x2019;s children&#x2019;s book authors.<\/p>\n<p>But the best part of it all has been seeing these authors&#x2019; readers become inspired by their books. As a solo act, I could only produce a maximum of one book per year. Little did I know it would allow me to connect with writers from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, with so many amazing online courses available in the world, there are no excuses &#x2014; if you want to learn a skill or reach a goal, you CAN do it. I have no doubt there&#x2019;s an online course for it somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>I also knew a comprehensive online course was the way to go because I participate in a variety of online courses myself. However, I did doubt my ability to market and <a href=\"https:\/\/coursemethod.com\/sell-courses-online\">sell my online course<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I kept wondering whether I&#x2019;d be able to find the people. Would people really be interested in <em>my <\/em>course?<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, the success mindset I&#x2019;d learned many years ago stuck with me and I pursued my goals anyways. The rest is history.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What%E2%80%99s_your_online_course_like\"><\/span>What&#8217;s your online course like?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <em>Children&#x2019;s Book Masterclass<\/em> is a 10-week online course taught through LIVE Zoom classes. Before teaching begins, I host an optional 30-minute connection time where the class splits into breakout rooms so they can journey together and get to know their peers. During the teaching portion, either myself or the writing instructor, Sharon Jennings, will teach through video and slides.<\/p>\n<p>I am very lucky to have Sharon as a part of the team. She has written over 70 books for young people, is the current president of CANSCAIP (Canadian Society of Children&#x2019;s Authors and Illustrators) and has been nominated for the Silver Birch Award, the TD Canadian Children&#x2019;s Literature Award, and the Governor General&#x2019;s Award. In other words, she&#x2019;s a storytelling powerhouse.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_long_did_it_take_you_to_create_your_course\"><\/span>How long did it take you to create your course?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I&#x2019;m still a bit shocked that I did this, but the first time I ran the <em>Children&#x2019;s Book Masterclass<\/em> I had an idea of what I wanted to teach but would hash out the details with my staff week-by-week (sounds stressful, right?)<\/p>\n<p>To figure out all the nitty-gritty details, I traveled back in time to when <em>I <\/em>was an aspiring children&#x2019;s book author and recalled all the questions I had. Then I used my recent experience in self and traditional publishing to come up with the answers. Those questions and answers created the course content.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, we&#x2019;ve adjusted our approach since the first time around. After collecting feedback from the students, we&#x2019;ve developed a structured and easy-to-comprehend roadmap to guide our writers towards success.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tell_us_a_little_about_the_process_of_launching_your_course_and_getting_your_first_sales\"><\/span>Tell us a little about the process of launching your course and getting your first sale(s).<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Very early on in the launching process, I discovered that it&#x2019;s important to offer free content to help build an audience and develop connections with them. I love getting to teach people LIVE and directly interact with my students, so I hosted a free LIVE training to start.<\/p>\n<p>This free training involved a teaching component about something my audience was interested in (e.g., &#x201C;5 Golden Rules for Writing a Picture Book Children will Love&#x201D;) and at the end, I would tell them about my online course, where they could continue to work with me.<\/p>\n<p>I&#x2019;ve connected with some incredible authors through this free training. The best part is when I get an email from an attendee saying, &#x201C;Your free training helped me publish my children&#x2019;s book!&#x201D; or &#x201C;That training you did gave me the motivation to GO FOR IT! Now I&#x2019;m on route to achieving my dreams.&#x201D; It wows me every time.<\/p>\n<p>When I got my first sign-up for the <em>Children&#x2019;s Book Masterclass<\/em>, I experienced a mix of emotions. I was happy, ecstatic, and thought, <em>Oh jeez. Someone just paid me $2,000 &#x2014; I better deliver!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Though the pressure to deliver top-quality content was on, I quickly realized that people will enroll for the content but they&#x2019;ll stick around for the community. That&#x2019;s why I always make sure to weave community &amp; connection into my content. It offers free video training where I walk you through the 5 essential elements of many bestselling children&#x2019;s books and a free PDF workbook so you can put what you learn into practice.<\/p>\n<p>I use this outlining method for all of my bestselling and award-winning children&#x2019;s books. It&#x2019;s quick, easy, and filled with practical planning tips. With the <em>Children&#x2019;s Book Blueprint<\/em>, authors can finish their outline in one sitting.<\/p>\n<p>This blueprint has been instrumental in growing our email list. We often funnel traffic from Facebook Ads to the <a href=\"https:\/\/miriamlaundry.com\/your-childrens-book-blueprint\/\"><em>Children&#x2019;s Book Blueprint<\/em><\/a> and have it available on our website for organic traffic.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What%E2%80%99s_the_traffic_strategy_that_works_best_for_you\"><\/span>What&#8217;s the traffic strategy that works best for you?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The best traffic strategy for us has been launching with an affiliate. When I do an affiliate launch, I ask another entrepreneur if they&#x2019;d be willing to share my course to their email list and teach alongside me in my free LIVE training. Then, if someone from their mailing list enrolls in the course, the affiliate gets a commission. Some of my favorites when it comes to business are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>B-School with Marie Forleo<\/li>\n<li>Launch with Jeff Walker<\/li>\n<li>Digital Course Academy with Amy Porterfield<\/li>\n<li>Any mastermind with Chris &amp; Lori Harder<\/li>\n<li>Any Jack Canfield training &#x2014; the way you think directly impacts your business and personal life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Do you have any big mistakes you&#x2019;ve made along the way that you&#x2019;d be willing to share?<\/h2>\n<p>I wish I would&#x2019;ve offered this course sooner. There are so many authors-in-the-making out there who need this roadmap.<\/p>\n<p>I also noticed that after the first time I ran the course, students felt slightly overwhelmed by what they were learning. I realized that sometimes teaching <em>everything<\/em> can hinder an author&#x2019;s success rather than encourage it. Since then, my team and I have renovated the course content to include everything the authors <em>need<\/em>. Any additional content is optional.<\/p>\n<p>My sales strategies also seemed confusing to my audience. Sometimes I would offer a few too many deals or bonuses and it would only disorient my potential students. When people are confused, they don&#x2019;t buy.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Please_share_some_idea_of_revenue\"><\/span>Please share some idea of revenue.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The first two CBM launches brought in about 25-30 students. Our most recent launch was our most successful with over 50 students enrolled (making it our first-ever 6-figure launch!)<\/p>\n<p>The difference was our willingness to invest in the launch process. For our most recent launch, we invested in Facebook Ads since our most engaged audience members are active on that platform. Those ads not only grew our email list to 3 times its original size, but they also contributed to the doubling of our enrollment rate.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tell_us_a_little_about_what_the_money_you%E2%80%99ve_earned_from_your_course_has_done_for_you\"><\/span>Tell us a little about what the money you&#8217;ve earned from your course has done for you.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When I first started my business, I told my husband that I would use the revenue to ditch the minivan and upgrade to a nice SUV. I&#x2019;ve since reached that goal and am enjoying functional air conditioning during car rides.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to making the summer months much more bearable, the income from my online course has allowed me to build a team of employees at Miriam Laundry Publishing. Now I feel supported in my business. Lori is a CBM Alumna who had dreamed of publishing her own children&#x2019;s book for 50 years. After learning everything she needed to learn in CBM and working alongside me for a year, she finally achieved that goal. Make sure you have a thorough understanding of what they <em>actually<\/em> need (not what you think they need). What kinds of questions are they asking? What answers are they looking for?<\/p>\n<p>Second, I&#x2019;d emphasize the importance of &#x2014; you guessed it &#x2014; community. Find other people who are doing what you want to do and journey with them. If you can find an experienced mentor as well, ask if they&#x2019;re willing to help you out. Mastermind programs are an amazing way to achieve this.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, I&#x2019;d repeat the words of my own mentor, Chris Harder: &#x201C;A rising tide lifts all ships.&#x201D; In other words, when you journey with others and help one another, you don&#x2019;t only lift yourself &#x2014; you lift everyone around you, too. Remember, course creation isn&#x2019;t a competition.
