The Courage Candidates is a group of nearly 100 candidates from 30 states who have pledged to file articles of impeachment for Tyranny, Treason, and Obstruction of Justice on day one of their term, acting together to hold this administration accountable. 

They are in their races because they care about making their communities better. Almost every single Courage Candidate has personally experienced the gatekeeping and corruption inherent in U.S. politics. They have been told by the political establishment that they need to raise $10,000 or $250,000 or $2,000,000 before they will receive any kind of endorsement or support. This is not just happening in one district, or even five; a majority of our candidates have shared a story of corruption. 

Courage for Democracy has brought these candidates under the same umbrella. They were already committed to public service; they already shared many of the same policies; and they already wanted to make a difference. They showed up with the courage to fight their fight without knowing the outcome. They’d be fighting even if we didn’t exist, and that’s why we’re proud to work with them. 

We are the team behind Citizens’ Impeachment, a grassroots movement that refuses to shut up about accountability and action. We are not politicians, we are professionals. If we ever performed as poorly at our job as Congress, we would have been fired immediately. We are quite literal and actually expect members of Congress to uphold the Constitution. That means representing US, THE PEOPLE, and we aren’t afraid to show up at their doorstep with a performance review and replacement hire if they can’t meet this basic job requirement. 

We are nonpartisan. We expect every single person who swore an oath to support and defend the constitution to uphold it. If you can’t perform this very straightforward part of the job, you need to go – Democrat, Independent, or Republican. None of this “Blue No Matter Who”-style fundraising. We’re interested in funding democracy, not democrats.

Research and perseverance. And to be honest, many of them find us. They are in their race because they care about their community and want to make it better and almost every single one of them has personally experienced the gatekeeping and corruption that has rotted through our politics. They have been told to sit down and wait their turn, had people stalk their meetings and steal their materials, and have been told by their own party tell them point blank that they wouldn’t work with the candidates if they didn’t raise $10,000 or $250,000 or $2,000,000. It’s not one district or five; 90-95% of candidates that come to us have a story of corruption. 

All we’ve done is bring these folks under the same umbrella. They were already committed to public service, they already shared many of the same policies, they already wanted to make a difference. They showed up with the courage to fight their fight without knowing the outcome. They’d be fighting even if this PAC didn’t exist and that’s why we’re proud to work with them. 

We need you to spend a minute and ask if that’s really an advantage for you or if they’ve just told you it is.When was the last time you talked to your actual representative? When have you sent a letter to their office and received a response that was a) timely and b) responsive to your specific question? What is the last piece of legislation you can remember them actually delivering, not just grandstanding about.

The truth is that politics is the art of the possible and Congress would prefer it if you didn’t think good things were possible so they can just keep pretending to do their job. They want to keep that power, but they don’t want to use it because that would just encourage us citizens to ask them to do more work.  And so they refuse to show up for an honest fight – they won’t talk with one another or collaborate on important legislation. Instead we get “we don’t have the votes” or “it’s not that easy.” Wrong. They just aren’t willing to put in the work. 

We make this promise to you: incumbents will co-opt the language of this PAC and all of the Courage Candidates before they actually take a stand or take any action. Whenever you hear a statement from them, look for the language, “and that’s why I will…”  If there’s no action, if there’s no promise you can hold them to, there shouldn’t be any applause. This goes for our Courage Candidates, too. Action is the name of the game.That’s how you earn power and beat “experience.”

We’ve heard it all: “But he’s been impeached twice before and it didn’t work; but the Vice President will be even worse; but Dems don’t have the numbers and we just have to wait until midterms; but these primary challengers are too new, too green, too inexperienced…” The skeptics are quick to enumerate their multitude of reasons for not joining the fight. It’s your call, that’s what democracy is all about: choice.
