Dear Writer,

First, I’d like to say I’m so excited for Yuletide this year! You and I must have matched up in one of these fandoms, and I love all of them, so thank you for offering and I hope you have fun too!

All of these suggestions are just that, so if you’ve already got an idea in mind, feel free to write it! If you’re like me, and you prefer a few starting off points, I hope this letter gives you some ideas. I'll try to go through each canon with some things I like about it and what I'd particularly like to see, with some general stuff to start off with! God, I'm sorry this is so long, I'm serious in that you don't need to read it if you've already got an idea.

General Things

Looking at my requests this year, I apparently really like stories with elements of legacy/inheritance/reincarnation! Feel free to focus on this or not, however much it may interest you. Alternatively… I seem to like women in prison stories! I just think the settings are cool, honestly. I love AUs of the sort where one thing is changed in canon and the fic explores the changes that would occur as a result, though I'd prefer not to get genderswapping for this challenge. I love mundane-type ‘day in the life’ stories with over the top characters—how do their experiences/powers/etc color things like, say, sitting in history class or going grocery shopping? I also like stories about ensemble casts, especially for "found families," those groups of people who are so close they're family even if they're not officially related. I'm really drawn to family dynamics in fic, and how that doesn't necessarily mean they always like each other. I also really like crossovers, so long as I know both fandoms! The only dislikes I have that are worth mentioning are that I’m really squicked by bad things happening to eyes, so please avoid that!

Shipping-wise, I love both shippy fic and gen; a lot of the fun for me for ships comes from seeing why the author thinks they should be together, especially for pairings that aren't particularly UST-filled (or characters who have barely even met!). I'll read het, slash, and femslash for ships though I've tried to specify where I've had a preference, and I'll read fic with any range of rating. I really like dysfunctional ships, so long as I get the sense that the author's aware they're dysfunctional, even if the characters themselves don't.

Thematically, I have a thing for dark, creepy settings with the promise of everything working out okay, though the promise doesn't actually need to be there either. I also like happy fic! I should definitely mention that. Just don't be afraid to go dark if you want to! I'm fine with death fic if that's the story you want to tell.

Batgirl-- Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain

Stephanie is my favorite DC character, followed shortly by Cass, so I’d be happy with anything with the both of them! I’m not familiar with the New 52 at all (as it’s missing my favorites, last I checked!) so I’d prefer fic firmly pre-reboot. I ship them pretty hard and would be equally happy with all ratings of fic, anything from firm femslash to pre-slash to super platonic gen, as long as they’re on good terms by the end of the fic! I’m fine with them fighting, too, just so long as they don’t… I don’t know, cut each other out of their lives forever, I’ll be a happy camper.

I love both of their persistence and stubbornness; Steph’s refusal to quit no matter how much Batman wants her to, Cass’s hyperdetermination to do the right thing. Something about what Batgirl/the costumes in general mean to them would be lovely, as would a fic covering their missing reunion after Steph came back from being not-dead, or after any of the times Cass has “died”/got mind controlled/etc. Like many fans, I’m fascinated by some of the possible stories suggested at the end of Steph’s Batgirl run; if you want to explore any of those, especially if Cass gets involved, I’d love it! What if Steph goes to visit Cass in Hong Kong? Or Bludhaven, even? What if Cass stays over Steph’s house, and they have to awkwardly explain/hide her from her mom? What if Steph and Cass go undercover together in… basically any situation! All-girl’s school! Roller derby team! Juvenile detention center/adult female prison! Teenage supervillains club! Female miners association! Shakespeare in the park production! (I take things very, very seriously, as you can probably tell.)

I love the Batfamily in general, emphasis heavy on the family dynamic, and would love fic of them just… chilling out as a family. If you want to do Christmas fic, I think this could be a great opportunity for it! Steph and Dick decorating the Batcave, Cass hunting down Jason, Cass (or Damian) getting Christmas traditions explained to them, Alfred doing basically anything, any and all of it could be great! Any sort of silly family-bonding type activity would be wonderful, really: picnics! Bowling! Tracking down international criminals!

Guilty Gear—Millia Rage

First of all, I hope you were as excited to see Xrd as I was! Considering information is still coming out, please don’t worry about incorporating any new information we may hear from now until the end of Yuletide—you can if you want, as I’ll likely be following it, but Guilty Gear is convoluted enough as it is without worrying about bits and pieces gleaned from updates about the new game.

I’m a relative newcomer to this fandom, and I love everything about it. A lot of the appeal to me is how over-the-top everyone is, the wackiness of the universe in a setting that is still pretty dark. I like how basically any of the characters has the potential to be treated super seriously or like an absolute joke. I'm not too concerned about getting the timeline absolutely perfect (it's a fighting game that feels like they're just making it up as they go along, don't worry about it) or that you know absolutely every piece of canon. If you can cram your fic full of as many music references as possible, I’ll basically be over the moon.

Millia is my main, and I would love to see more fic of her in basically any capacity. Her time with the Assassins sounds fascinating—the glimpses we get in Night of Knives of all the undercover work and drama back at home base makes me really want casefic (assassination fic?) with Millia and Venom's digs at each other and Slayer's casual interference. Maybe an assassination set before Millia leaves that makes her interact with one of the other members of the cast? I'm not particular about who, so feel free to write whoever you're most comfortable with, since I love everyone nominated (and everyone in the entire cast, actually)! What if she's sent in to stop a young upstart during the war, and runs into one or both of our main characters along the way? What if a job is interrupted by a time-travelling British guy, who may or may not already know her? She's apparently already met Johnny as of the Drama CD-- does he remember her later?

Fic set during the main timeline would also be great! Does Millia ever accept protection from the International Police Force? Get tangled up in the PWAB? Exploring any of the side endings would be great-- what about the one where she loses control of her hair and becomes a murderer, or where she cuts her hair off and lives out her normal life? If you want to make assumptions about what happened in between AC+ and Xrd (it looks like it's been a few years!), I'd love to hear it! Is her new outfit a prison uniform? Has she been hiding out in Russia? Why exactly is there a sign on her head?

If none of these prompts are speaking to you, you can honestly write me any story you want with Millia! The only caveat I have is that I prefer you don't ship her with Venom, unless it's some sort of hateful spiteful thing, as I see him pretty firmly as gay and ridiculously obsessed with Zato.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure—Jolyne Kujo

Jojo’s is my newest fandom and I am in love with it. I love the humor and the over-the-topness, the music references and the JoJo poses, the family dynamics and concept of legacy. As of this writing I am partway through Part 7—due to the nature of Parts 7/8 I don’t expect this will be an issue with the characters nominated, but just in case please don’t include any spoilers from those parts! I’ll update this if/when this changes. As a warning for anyone who has only been following the anime, or isn’t through every part yet: I’ve tried to stay vague, but this could have spoilers up through the ending of part 6.

Jolyne is my favorite Jojo, followed closely by Giorno and Josuke, and I would really love anything with her. What about her relationship with her parents? Canon touches on the iceburg that is Jotaro and Jolyne, but what about her and her mother? I love the prison setting and I think it’s ripe for a lot of possible stories. Chilling out with Hermes and F.F. in prison teaching F.F. how to act human? (If you happen to be familiar with Orange is the New Black as well, I think a crossover could be really fun! What if Jolyne got transferred?) What if Jolyne and co ran into some of the rather infamous wackiness in Florida? Were any of those events caused by Stand attacks? If you feel like writing Christmas fic, this could be a great fandom for it! What’s Christmas like in the prison, when you’ve got Pucci as a priest and stand users everywhere?

If you want to include other Jojos or characters from other parts, I’m definitely down! Want to come up with a way to let Jonathan meet his great-great-great-granddaughter? What if Jotaro brought 4-year-old Jolyne with him to Morioh? How’s Josuke as a great-uncle? Where was Giorno during the end of Part 6? The translation implied he was already around. Maybe he was just a person they bumped into on the bus, or maybe he was the contact form the SPW Foundation that picked up Jotaro’s disc. Maybe he would’ve been an enemy! What if Giorno had pulled his mobster strings and sprung Jolyne from prison early, and then they… go on a roadtrip or to a properly-populated Disney World or to spit on Dio’s grave?

For this canon, if it’s the story you wanna write, I honestly am fine with fudging the timelines a bit in order to have Jolyne-Giorno-Josuke power trio extraordinaire. I see this a lot in art but I’d love fic exploring just… all the Jojos alive at the same time growing up in one dysfunctional house, like… what if they were all around the same age and hanging out in Morioh/Florida/Italy and rolling their eyes at their embarrassing dads? Maybe Giorno’s gang teaches them nasty curses in Italian when Giorno’s not paying attention. Maybe Josuke and Okuyasu are in the same ESL class as Mista and Narancia. Maybe Jolyne puts Josuke down as her emergency contact at school, because he is her grandma’s brother and he won’t rat her out if she gets a detention or two, and is more useful in a medical emergency than basically anyone else. I dunno, I just think it could be a lot of fun!

Also, on names: the new Jojoveller official names seem sort of… off, to me, even if Thunder McQueen is a pretty cool name, so if possible I prefer to default to the names used in the translation! (Jolyne Kujo/Cujoh I could go either way with; actually, her spelling her name differently on purpose could be an interesting point for a fic…) I'm into almost any ship in this canon with the exception of Jotaro/Jolyne, so if you want to write basically any ship, go for it!

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker-- any
The Zelda fandom is my forever fandom, and I’m feeling particularly nostalgic with WWHD out! Don’t worry if you’ve only played the Gamecube version; as far as I’ve heard, there’s no differences between it and the new one storywise, and I haven’t gotten ahold of HD yet either! If you are familiar with it, feel free to include some new aspects of the game in your fic, even if it’s just something like Link taking selfies with the bosses.

What I love about Zelda is the narratives of inheritance and legacy, especially as the game repeatedly tells us that this Link is not a reincarnation of the Hero of Time (and then Ganondorf says he’s the hero reborn!) If this is up your alley, run with it—what’s the deal with this reincarnation? I’m assuming Link is just a spiritual successor—namely, a kid who’s proved himself enough to be considered an incarnation of the Hero, even if he’s not literally the same soul. If you’re familiar with Ocarina of Time, I’d love something looking at the differences between Hyrule then and Hyrule now (throughout this letter I’m working off the assumption that the Hero of Time in Ocarina of Time is the hero mentioned in the prologue, and that Ocarina of Time is the story told at the beginning of the game; if you have other ideas, I’d love to hear them! Sell it to me in the story!)—are there remnants of the Fire Temple among the Rito homeland? Do the Fishmen explore the Zora’s Domain? Do Link or Tetra feel a strange dejavu in the courtyard under water?

I’d love to see something that follows Aryll’s adventures throughout the game! Her and Link growing up on Outset Island and their relationship with their grandmother or the rest of the townfolk would be lovely, or her and the other kidnapped girls hatching a plan to escape or planting some sort of seed of doubt in Ganondorf’s mind that has an impact on the ending of the game, maybe? Or her and Link and Tetra going on pirate adventures after the game! (I’m familiar with Phantom Hourglass, but it’s fine if you don’t wanna run that way, just as it’s equally fine if you do!)

What about Tetra? She’s a pirate captain and a preteen! There’s got to be a ton of stories there! What was she doing while hiding safe in Hyrule Castle underwater? What gives her the idea of firing at Link in the final boss battle?! How connected is she to the Zelda legacy, and how does she make it her own? She’s always been one of the most proactive Zeldas in my mind, and I love that about her!

I love Ganondorf in this game more than I do in any other, I think, because it’s the closest we get to human for him and yet he’s pretty brutal! He’d be a great way to explore the differences/similarities between the past and the present, if that’s what you’re interested in, since he’s been through both. Fic about him gaining his alliances in the new setting would be wonderful, or anything from him during the boss battle(s), or how the Hyrule he coveted is flooded and long-forgotten, sort of like he is. For this fic, I’d prefer not to get any explicit relationships between him and the kids—I’m alright with creepy one-sidedness if you want to go that route, but nothing actually acted upon please!

I’d be interested in exploring the world, too! Pick your favorite sidequest island and tell me about it! Give me Link exploring a corner of the sea we haven’t seen, or a place important in the past/future of Hyrule that he doesn’t pick up on! I love fic that incorporates some of the game mechanics into the story, if that’s something you want to explore. If you’d like ideas, some of my favorite parts of the game are the frozen Hyrule Castle underwater, the puppet Ganon that disguises itself as Zelda, Ganondorf’s first appearance where he casually tosses Link back to sea, the never-ending night and race to Jabun, and the entire ending sequence, actually! Really, I love Zelda so much that anything you give me would be lovely—if you want to explore one of the side characters or relationships, feel free!

Orange is the New Black-- Taystee, Poussey

While I love nearly everyone in Orange is the New Black, my favorites by far are Taystee and Poussey! I can ship them or not, whichever you prefer to see them as; I love their interactions the most out of the entire cast. Fic focusing on either or both of them would be fantastic. I’ve got basically no headcanon for how either of them got into prison, so if you want to write that fic, go for it!

Alternatively, I’d love to see Taystee and Poussey working together to, as Piper keeps stressing, make their time in jail productive—maybe there’s a hilariously outdated book focusing on some job skill or another in the library, and they go through it together for a laugh (actually, them going through any book in the library together for a laugh would be pretty great! Or maybe Taystee’s into Harry Potter fandom?) Maybe you want to follow Taystee when she was out of jail, as much as it would break my heart—I could do angsty reality of life after prison for both/either of them, using each other (and maybe some friends along the way) as support to get by! Or, honestly, if you want both of them to get out of prison and start their own noir detective office, having light rivalries with the police as they try to protect their clients (and maybe break/fudge a few laws along the way), I would sit that ride all day. Hell, I’d enjoy them arguing over what to watch on TV again and again; I just really like them.

If you’re familiar with this and any other of my fandoms (except maybe Zelda; that might be a little too different for me), I’d love some sort of crossover of people being sent to Litchfield. Maybe Steph and Cass are undercover here and bunking next to some Orange is the New Black characters? Maybe Millia casually stabs Pornstache (I am okay with this 100%, I’m okay with basically anyone stabbing Pornstache, crossover or not), or Jolyne going to Sophie for hair advice? It doesn’t even have to be a canon I’ve requested; if you’d like to pick one that you know I’m familiar with (either from previous letters, my muselist, or just asking!) you can go ahead with this one if that’s the way you want to go.

Rare Women Letter

Hello, and thank you for offering to write in one of my fandoms! This is my first time doing this exchange, and I'm really glad to see it around.

All of the suggestions both here and in my signup are just suggestions, so if you've got an idea that you want to run with already, go ahead! If you're like me and you like somewhere to jump off of, I hope this letter helps. I'll try to talk about what aspects I like in each of these canons, but first a few general things!

I don't have any triggers to watch out for (though I'm pretty squeamish about bad things happening to eyes, so I'll be skimming quickly if anything like that comes up). I'll read fic with a variety of ratings and ships. In general, I'm fine with either het or femslash, though for Pretty Little Liars I'd prefer not to get het, and I'm fine with all range of ratings, though I'd prefer not to get porn for Zelda. That makes it sound like I only want shipping fic, but I'm really, really into gen too! I like looking at the day-to-day lives of the characters-- we see them when something interesting is going on, but what about when they're just going about their business? On that note, I like stories that fill in the gaps between what we see on screen. I love AUs exploring the path not taken. I'm also really drawn to family dynamics in fic, or to "found families" where the people might not be blood relatives but they're still very close. Thematically, I also like really dark setups and dysfunctional relationships, just as much as I like happy stories. None of these are requirements so much as me trying to assure you not to worry about if I'll like it or not! As a consequence, this is immensely long. If you've already got an idea, or if you just don't want to read through this rambling, definitely just go with what you feel!

A Song of Ice and Fire- Asha Greyjoy.

I've only recently gotten into A Song of Ice and Fire, and I'm really, really into it lately. I've read all of the books so far plus what's available from Winds of Winter, though you don't need to include anything from there if you'd rather not spoil yourself! I haven't read the Dunk and Egg stories, though; I don't predict that being a problem, but feel free to bring in worldbuilding information from them if you've read them. I've also been following the TV show, and I like it, but I'd prefer to get bookverse fic.

A Song of Ice and Fire is a series where the only characters I can say that I dislike are the ones who outright bore me (and that is limited to Arys Oakheart, who I found so forgettable that I didn't even realize Dorne was cool until after he ate it); even the truly horrendous characters are ones that I love to hate, if that makes sense. Basically, include whoever you like! I love the scope of the series, and I'd hate for you to feel you have to limit yourself to the really small proportion of the setting that Asha interacts with in canon (which isn't to say that you have to branch out, either!)

Shipping-wise, I mean it when I say I'd love to see Asha with anyone, ever. Part of the fun of shipping for me is seeing the interesting pairings that would never cross my mind and yet just work. Even just her interacting nonromantically with various other characters, considering how tied up she is in the Ironborn politics and then halted in the snow with Stannis and co., and that's about the limits of who she sees. For some examples, how would she and Cersei clash, when both of them are considered (or consider themselves) their father's true son? What about her and Brienne, who both force their way into male gender roles but with completely different results? On that note, her and Sarella? Arianne? Arya? Sansa? Dany? Not that this is limited to other women; what would Jon have to say to her if she showed up on the Wall? (What if she hung out with Ygritte??) What would she have to say to Bran, for that matter? How much sarcasm do you get with Asha and Tyrion in the same room?

Not that you have to travel away from canon to find interesting things to work with for her! I was really into the Ironborn chapters as a whole, not just hers, and I'd love to see something with her and her family negotiating the politics in the present part of the storyline, or something about her growing up as the only child left and how that shaped her into who she is today. Something with her and the Harlaws would also be great; not all her family members are krakens, after all, and I've got a soft spot for the Reader (just like many others, I'd bet!) I also thought her clashing with the Northerners was really interesting, even if they were just trapped in the snow; her pseudo bond with Alysane Mormont, complicated by the fact that they're enemies not just in this conflict but historically, her thoughts on the religions she's exposed to and how they reflect on her own, her interactions with Stannis.

One last thing I'd like to note is that obviously this canon has a lot of violence and horrible things happening in sometimes very gendered ways. I don't necessarily shy away from those aspects of the book, though I know that other people definitely might, so please keep to your own comfort level and don't feel you have to tackle certain subjects just because they're present in the original canon. That being said, I'd like to reiterate that I've been fine with reading about anything that's present in the text (rape, torture, incest, murder, etc) so don't worry about what you're including (aside from no detailed terrible things happening to eyes, please!)

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time- Any.

I adore the Zelda series; it's my all-time favorite fandom and the one I will never leave. I love the way the games feel connected even when they're standalone stories, and the feeling that there are other stories to tell, whether about the characters after Link's done interacting with them or in the setting's past or future.

Because there's a lot of theories tossed around about Ocarina of Time, I'd like to establish some of my own thoughts! The only thing I have a really firm stance on is that Link isn't physically mute; I think it's pretty clear that he is capable of talking to the other characters, we just don't get his dialogue, so it throws me out of the story for a bit when it's implied or stated that Link can't talk. You don't have to include him in your story, of course, and if you choose to, I'm not picky about what his "voice" sounds like, just that he has one, so go with your own characterization! For any other theory out there, I don't have a firm preference either way, and I like to see them all explored in fic! The one that's particularly relevant for this challenge is the question of whether or not the sages had to die to get their powers to awaken. Whatever you choose (if they're dead, alive, alive but in the Spirit Realm for all intents and purposes, etc), I'm fine with it!

The Zelda series is one where things start to look really dark once you stop and take a look at them closely, and I really love that about the games. Exploring some of these darker points would be great! For instance, the implications of the Shadow Temple are pretty torture-y; what's that about? Or, there's some information in the coding that the Iron Knuckles have a Gerudo model under the armor. Or Fado, the pleasant Kokiri girl who cheerfully explains that the adults who get lost in the woods turn into monsters, like the ones you've been fighting. Orrrr Jabu Jabu has cows in his stomach in the Master Quest. There's a potential for this to get too into pure worldbuilding and I don't mean to derail the challenge like that, but those sorts of things are really interesting to me, and could be really interesting fuel for a story. Of course, this doesn't have to be some sort of super dark fic! I love the general feeling of hope, even in the worst of the bad end future, that it's okay because Link's going to fix this-- and doubly so if he's not the only one who's responsible for getting everything patched together again, which is where these ladies come in.

I love each of the characters in this game, so whichever one(s) you want to write about for this challenge is fine! I'll try to talk about each character, though I might toss out ideas for interactions between two or more of them, so this isn't a super organized thing, just me blabbing on about my favorite series, haha.

Impa is fascinating to me as one of the few characters who appears in multiple incarnations. If you're into the series as a whole, this could be fascinating in and of itself! Why does Impa reincarnate along with Link and Zelda? Is she like Ganondorf, and there's only really one Impa, consistent from Skyward Sword all the way to the original games, with some sort of reverse-aging thing involved? Is it tied into destiny and the goddesses somehow? Is 'Impa' a title? Obviously, I'm interested in Impa-in-OOT as a person and not just Impa-across-games, so that's by no means a requirement. She didn't seem to be incapacitated during the seven-year gap like the others were; what was she up to during this time? Training Zelda? Working undercover? Saving the people of Castle Town and Kakariko? For that matter, what did she do beforehand? Something on Sheikah culture would also be really interesting, given how little we know about it!

Nabooru is one of the most fun characters in the game, and like with Impa, I'm really interested in the Gerudo culture. She's also the character with the most history with Ganondorf, so something exploring that could be fascinating, either when he's first planning to try and take the Triforce or when they're growing up. Actually, rebel leader Nabooru sneaking around trying to damage control and convince her people to stop following their stupid predestined king only to get brainwashed and do a complete 180 is really awesome in general! I also think she'd make a really interesting counterpoint to Impa; they're the two who are adults for the entire time out of this set of characters (putting aside that Saria is a special case), working on rebellions that manifest in totally different ways. Actually, any of these (excluding Malon) interacting as leaders of their people could be really interesting.

Ruto holds a special place in my heart, because she is so much fun to throw at jellyfish, haha. Seriously, though, I love Ruto's transformation from brat with a hint of responsibility to mostly responsible with a hint of brattiness, and the growing up she does (offscreen, mostly). The Zora are also really interesting, haha, I just like these cultures! If you're up to it, Ruto/Zelda-as-Sheik has a special place in my heart, though it's very out there. There's also the fact that, for a time, Ruto was the only Zora who was unfrozen; what would that have been like? Had she even gone around the rest of the world before? How does she deal with that? Ruto also explicitly tries to solve the problem on her own, which is something that could definitely use some recognizing (let's be real, a fic where all five of them are working together to contribute towards the final victory beyond just 'awakening as sages and gifting a horse' would be awesome).

Malon! Malon is another of the mysterious reappearing characters, whether as an expy or by name (maybe Malon is just a popular name in the Hylian countryside?) She is the character I'd most like to see doing her own thing, whether during the seven-year gap or after the end of the game, because she doesn't even get to contribute as a sage lending Link her power. When we first see her in the future, she does seem pretty down; she could be a great way of looking at how Ganondorf's rule impacted normal people, not just heroes and the leaders of the world. Maybe she helps carry things between Castle Town and Kakariko! Maybe she runs letters around the world, someone has to do it before Link shows up! This story doesn't have to be set during the time we don't see her, of course; as a child teasing Link or... an adult teasing Link, she's really fun, and I'd like to see more of her.

Saria is interesting because of how... old she seems. She'd be a really interesting character to get a viewpoint from, especially when time is passing so visibly for Link and the others while the Kokiri stay the same, and she's the only one who even recognizes Link as an adult. She also seems aware of some of the troubles that are going to come by, so I think she'd work really well for something pretty bittersweet. Of course, it doesn't have to be! Cute interactions with eternal children are adorable, and something with her and the Kokiri being kids would be awesome, or something more quiet with her and music, or even-- she's the Sage of Forest, how much of nature outside of the Lost Woods has she even seen?

This setup seems to imply I'd only like to focus on one of the characters, but really I'd be interested in any combination of them! Girls chipping together to help save the world is awesome, basically.

Pretty Little Liars- Hanna, Spencer.

Hanna is my favorite character, with Spencer as a very close second! If you're able to write both of them, I'd love to see a shipping fic about them! This one is pretty shallow, haha. If you'd rather not, that's totally fine, but I would ask to leave the canon love interests out of the focus, in that case.

I think Hanna is one of the more realistic characters on the show; I love how she's usually the one who just wants to let it go and move on, and then Mona came in and complicated everything. Something with her and Mona interacting would also be great, actually! That unhealthy friend dynamic is really interesting to me, especially if there are real friends there to help get through it. The same goes for interactions with Ali, and I think the way Ali treated Hanna was really sadly realistic. That being said, something totally divorced from messed up friendships would be great, too! Girl deserves some normalcy in her life. Something with Hanna (and the others, if you feel inclined!) going through normal sitcom teenager problems would be fun, too, instead of murdered friends and omnipotent stalkers.

As for Spencer, I love her for how over-the-top she is, as a super overachiever and crazy motivated girl detective. I'd prefer to see her get out of the mentality she's currently stuck in at the time of writing (late season 3, due to the TobAy drama); whether you want to take that into the future or set a story in the past is up to you! I'd just really like to see her come out of this stronger, like I know she eventually will on the show; if you choose to go that route, I'm not a huge fan of the idea of her getting over it by getting into a new relationship (getting into a new relationship after getting over it is fine, just dating isn't a magic cure for problems!). Aside from that, I just really love Spencer doing Spencer things. This is a fandom where futurefic could be fun, once all this A stuff is behind them (it has to end eventually, right?) I also think this fandom could work well for more humorous stories, though I've been talking mainly serious topics here.

Yuletide Letter

Dear Writer,

First, I’d like to say I’m so excited for Yuletide this year! This is my first year participating, so I’m anticipating a lot of fun. You and I must have matched up in one of these fandoms, and I love all of them, so thank you for offering and I hope you have fun too!

All of these suggestions are just that, so if you’ve already got an idea in mind, feel free to write it! If you’re like me, and you prefer a few starting off points, I hope this letter gives you some ideas. I'll try to go through each canon with some things I like about it and what I'd particularly like to see, with some general stuff at the end! God, I'm sorry this is so long, I'm serious in that you don't need to read it if you've already got an idea.

General Things
Looking at my fandoms this year, I apparently really like stories with aspects of time travel/bad futures that need to be set right! Please don’t feel pressured to write something like that, but I do love time travel shenanigans for just about all of these (um, if you happen to be familiar with multiple of these fandoms, or even another time-travel series if you want to check if I'm familiar with it, a crossover of the timetravellers would make my year). On that note, I love AUs of the sort where one thing is changed in canon and the fic explores the changes that would occur as a result, though I'd prefer not to get genderswapping for this challenge. I love mundane-type ‘day in the life’ stories with over the top characters—how do their experiences/powers/etc color things like, say, sitting in history class or going grocery shopping? I also like stories about ensemble casts, especially for "found families," those groups of people who are so close they're family even if they're not officially related. I'm really drawn to family dynamics in fic, and how that doesn't necessarily mean they always like each other.

Shipping-wise, I love both shippy fic and gen; a lot of the fun for me for ships comes from seeing why the author thinks they should be together, especially for pairings that aren't particularly UST-filled (or characters who have barely even met!). I'll read het, slash, and femslash for ships though I've tried to specify where I've had a preference, and I'll read fic with any range of rating. I really like dysfunctional ships, so long as I get the sense that the author's aware they're dysfunctional, even if the characters themselves don't.

Thematically, I have a thing for dark, creepy settings with the promise of everything working out okay, though the promise doesn't actually need to be there either. I also like happy fic! I should definitely mention that. Just don't be afraid to go dark if you want to! I'm fine with death fic if that's the story you want to tell. I don't mind holiday fic if it's in a fandom where it's appropriate (aka please don't stick Christmas into the Zeldaverse, but if you want to make up a different winter holiday, that's fine!)

Guilty Gear- Any.
I’m a relative newcomer to this fandom, and I love everything about it. A lot of the appeal to me is how over-the-top everyone is, the wackiness of the universe in a setting that is still pretty dark. I like how basically any of the characters has the potential to be treated super seriously or like an absolute joke. I'm not too concerned about getting the timeline absolutely perfect (it's a fighting game that feels like they're just making it up as they go along, don't worry about it) or that you know absolutely every piece of canon. If you can cram your fic full of as many music references as possible, I’ll basically be over the moon.

I picked 'any' for this series because I would honestly be happy with any of the characters-- this doesn't mean they all need to be in the fic! (Though it would be pretty impressive and I'd marvel at your skills all day). Nitpicky little canon details that I do prefer, though you're not required to mention either of them so much as I prefer that you not state the opposite: Justice is a woman, Venom is gay.

I main as Millia, and I’d love to see any fic of her, whether it’s something serious with the Assassins (I adore her interactions with Venom!), introspection with another character, or just something mundane like what her daily routine looks like when she can do it hands-free. I-no is another character I love—for her, I’d prefer not to get too much backstory, I like her best as a mysterious UNKNOWN 50x times in a profile section. Anything with her dicking around in the timeline would be fantastic, or just being antagonistic at other characters (especially Dizzy! I love how she just won't stop antagonizing the weapon of mass destruction). There is no way I will not love something with Robo-Ky in it. Anything. He's my favorite.

I’d be really interested in some Ky fic in the aftermath of the war—it was basically his entire life, so how does he react when it’s finally over? (If you feel the need to slip Kliff in, I’ll love you forever for it!) What the Assassins were doing at this time is also really interesting for me (assassinating the leaders of countries and potentially creating another war? arguing about relationship drama while doing so?), along with the Jellyfish (air raids on Gears and playing Robin Hood <s>to score with ladies?</s>). Black Side (the drama CD!) set fic would also be great-- we know Sol was leading the Order, working with Zepp and the Jellyfish; fic about evil!Dizzy or Johnny's Last Stand or anything here would be awesome. I'm serious about liking "bad end" universes.

I do ship SolKy, so feel free to write that if that’s what you’re interested in! I also played (and enjoyed, sob) Overture, but I understand that it’s a pretty significant departure from the rest of canon and you shouldn’t feel pressured to include it. If you do choose to write Overture-era fic, I’d prefer that Dizzy’s existence is at least acknowledged (adorable Ky-and-Dizzy-fumbling-with-a-kid fic would make my heart soar, for the record!) For that matter, I’d be fine with any ship, should you feel like including one, between any of the characters available with the exception of Sol x Dizzy.

Back To the Future- Any.
This trilogy is my favorite movie (movies?) and you can’t go wrong with just about anything for this fandom! The one thing I do request is that I don’t get any Doc x Marty shipping fic; I love their relationship but I prefer them platonic.

I really, really enjoy the second movie, ridiculous as it is! Anything set in alternate 1985 would be fantastic, with its zeerusty 80’s future and all the changes from our time if Biff intervened in history (for one thing, we’d have no computers, but we would have hoverboards!) I love any sort of time-travel shenanigans for this fandom, so don’t worry if you’re not as into the second movie. Additional trips to other periods of time or the aftermath of any of Marty’s trips are greatly appreciated-- how does he adjust to coming back after the first movie, when there are all sorts of changes he doesn't remember, or coming back from both 1985-A and the Wild West and being relieved how everything's the way he remembered it? Of course, if you don't want to go as seriously, humorous stuff here is also great. Maybe Marty's history teacher gets something wrong about the 1800s, or thinks it's ridiculous that you'd be able to watch two TV shows at once.

I’d love to see something of Clara exploring the modern day (or other time periods!). She and Doc seem to spend a lot of time travelling around before they go back to see Marty, so what does she want to go see? Does she go to a bookstore in the 1990s? Attend concerts? Suffragette meetings? How does she feel about leaving the 1880s? I also have a soft spot for Biff, whether it's 1950s greaser Biff, business bully Biff, modern pushover Biff, futuristic grandpa Biff, Biff-but-actually-his-ancestor-but-come-on-it's-Biff... I'd also be really interested in something that looks at Biff's relationship with George as it changes depending on what timeline we're in-- maybe relationship isn't the right word, but what the dynamics between them are, depending on what happened in the past. On the subject of George, fic with Marty trying to change his opinion on his father after seeing him in the past, or finding out that he's closer to his dad than before, would be really fun!

Something else I'd really like, as we're actually approaching 2015, would be fic where they come into the real future, whether as an alternative to the second movie, time-traveling after the series, or even future fic where they grow up the old-fashioned way. How do they react with the internet, but no flying cars? Will Marty popularize the hoverboard? Do they attribute these changes to their own actions in the past? Will I get a hoverboard?

For this series, 80’s references, running gags, and lampshade moments for the future in general are all extra appreciated. I haven't played the game(s?) yet or seen the cartoon, but if you have and you want to use information from them, feel free! I would prefer something that is at least understandable with just movie knowledge, but that's just for my own sake. For the record, you don't need to include all of the characters in the fic! Pick whoever works for the story you want to tell. I'd also prefer things more on the gen side in this fandom-- I don't mind ships appearing in the fic, but I'd prefer they not be the focus!

If you came here for another fandom and it's not working for you for whatever reason, this would probably be your best bet as an alternative!

Pretty Little Liars- Hanna.
Pretty Little Liars is my newest fandom, and it's a little sad how into it I am. Hanna is my favorite character, followed shortly by Spencer. I love Hanna's casual theft, her issues with her weight and her father, her adjusting her old friends into her popularity and dealing with having less money coming in than before. I think her story is one of the most realistic of them-- it's screwed up but believable in a way that blinding a girl while she's forcing sex with her stepbrother isn't. (This is where I should note that I do like Emily, and of course her storyline is also realistic, but I like this show for how slightly over the top it is and Emily always seemed so normal out of all of them.) I understand that a lot of Hanna's issues can be difficult to write about because of how familiar they can be, so please don't feel pressured to, say, write a detailed story of her mentality re: her eating issues; I'd actually prefer not to get issuefic for this story, and just have her issues be a part of her rather than the focus.

I’m fascinated by the girls’ relationships with Alison, so I’d love fic focusing on that, or just a snapshot of their lives operating around being stalked by a mysterious all-knowing gossip. Truthfully, I find Aria the least interesting of the Liars, so I’d prefer not to get a fic focusing on her and her alone; I’m also not very interested in any of the boys, though of course I don’t mind if any of these people show up in story!

Out of all the relationships in the show, it’s Hanna and Emily’s with Alison that interests me the most; they’re both under Alison’s control for things they can’t help about themselves. Something dealing with that would be fantastic! Alison in general fascinates me. ~~I’d also love seeing some Hanna/Spencer, if it should happen to come my way…~~

I’ve read the first book and know the major basic spoilers for the book series (mainly who A is); I’ve also seen all that’s available of the series so far. I do prefer the television show, for the record!

Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask- Any.
The Zelda series is my forever fandom, and I can’t properly express just how much I love it here. Majora’s Mask was always my favorite game, even if I conceded that everyone would always be talking about Ocarina of Time. I love all the dark little moments hidden in this game, the sense of control you have over the entire setting mixed with the inevitable destruction looming overhead. I love all the little side stories, how each of the side characters are dealing with their inevitable deaths in a really quiet, personal way, that we as the player would miss if we didn't explore as thoroughly as we can. I love the eerieness of the inside of the moon, with the children with the masks and their questions; I love the creepiness that is all of the masks, but especially the transforming ones. This is, uh, probably the part where I say I like dark themes, huh?

For this series, I’d love any sort of worldbuilding (through the experiences of a character, or Link exploring and discovering different parts of the world), moments acknowledging the darkness, or Link trying to find moments of happiness in such a bleak setting. This story doesn't have to be super depressing! Link coming in and making it better would actually be fantastic, or even just the knowledge outside of the story that Link will come in and fix it is enough. I suppose I should mention that you don’t have to worry about giving Link a voice or not! I prefer him not to be physically mute in-story, because I think the game does imply he’s capable of talking, and I’m not picky about how he ‘sounds’ if you do choose to have him speak!

I also love everyone’s favorite couple, Anju and Kafei—anything with either of them would be great. The end of their quest will never fail to make me tear up, and it could go as happy or as sad as you like. I’d also like stories dealing with Skull Kid—maybe what the influence of the mask feels like to him, or something about his friendship with the giants (before or after the game!) Like the other 'any' requests, you don't need to use all the characters in one fic! Use whoever makes sense for the story you want to tell.

My favorite parts of the game (atmosphere-wise, if not always gameplay-wise) are the Gerudo pirates, Romani Ranch, and the inside of the moon, so if those settings are speaking to you, go ahead and use them! I love the idea of turning Stone Tower Temple upside-down (what purpose does this serve in-universe? Why would anyone build something like that?!) and the Elegy of Emptiness, and I feel like those could also be interesting aspects to explore (note: I'm aware of the Ben Drowned creepypasta and started to get into it, but ultimately it didn't interest me; please don't include it in the fic) . In general, I like it when fics give an in-universe explanation for gameplay mechanics-- what do the townfolk see when Link skips ahead 6 hours? How does the banker know the amount of money Link has when he's never seen the kid before in his life, as far as he can remember? Even though I've been writing this as if it's a super serious canon, I think there's definitely a lot of humor to find in the game, and these situations could definitely be played lightheartedly.

One of the things I love most about each of the Zelda games is its connections to the others. Obviously, you've only signed up to write for Majora's Mask, and that's fine! But if you do happen to be familiar with the rest of the series, I'd love little references to other games, to the point that it would make sense in what is basically a parallel universe from the rest of them. Things like the "paper" hand appearing in Skyward Sword made me scream with glee, for instance, and I love the reappearance of certain memetic phrases-- if you could work in an "excuse me, princess," I'd be thrilled, or maybe someone grumble grumbles, or is error, or has something that's a secret to everybody. I like feeling like the story is part of a larger universe, and that's one of the main appeals for me with Zelda.
