Yoshimori has been in gargleblasted for more than a year. Things you should know about him:

Appearance: Yoshimori is constantly wearing a white bandage wrapping on his right hand, to hide the houin, a black square on his palm. This mark is proof that he is the legitimate successor to his clan. He has a habit of staring at his hand and flexing his fingers, wondering about why he was born with the houin, when his brother Masamori was, in pretty much everyone's opinion, clearly more talented and better suited for the job.

Now that he's about to turn sixteen, he's grown a few inches, and is now around 5'6" or 167 cm (his height is never given in the manga). His face is slightly less round in the cheeks. His hair is wild and more unkempt now that his dad isn't there to cut it or tell him to comb it, and he's starting to get whiskers. Thankfully Kurt and Kaoru are around to suggest grooming tips?

Kekkaishi Powers: Yoshimori has been training and drawing power from the various celestial beings he is friendly with on board. His skills with his shikigami have improved. He is able to control four incredibly realistic human shiki and some crows on the side all at once. His attack power has not improved too much since his point in canon (manga chapter 258), being as how Karasumori is not here to supply him with that energy. He still does not know who/what Karasumori is. He still does not know about what his "landlord" is. He still doesn't know his mother's whereabouts.

Baking Skills: Yoshimori has spent most of his time here on Thor baking and trying to learn more and more new techniques. His prized possessions are his baking supplies. A fallen angel named Crowley actually granted him a wish to have all of his cooking books and notes from his world again. Yoshimori has designed and built some very large cakes for parties. His permanent job is baker at Tres Leches Pan Dulce in the slums. He started off as assistant last year and worked his way up. Since the previous head baker quit, he's been the one making cakes and sweets there. His cakes are quite popular with the various organizations around the area even if no one really knows him by name yet.

The tallest cake he can make had seven tiers. He is learning how to make gum paste flowers that look real. He is also trying to perfect recipes that use raspberries and cranberries, two fruits he didn't have exposure to at home in Japan.

One Might Notice:

1. His serious mode, when it does peek out, differs greatly from his happy go lucky front he uses on Thor.

2. He is usually paying close attention to any children around. Yoshimori has demonstrated often in canon that he is great with kids.

3. Most likely due to his all-male family and estrangement from his mother, he also views girls as a strange foreign species, and finds them hard to understand and relate to.

4. He's rather hostile with anyone who bosses him around, it reminds him of his older brother.

5. His voice is cracking slightly less than when he first arrived.

6. He's a total chocoholic and doesn't care who mocks him for it. (In Japan, love of chocolate and sweets is considered to be a womanly trait).

7. He generally smells like whatever he's been baking. His favorite smells are coffee, chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, and cardamom.

8. He's addicted to coffee. He likes it sweet or black, depending on his mood.

9. Due to the influence of the company he is keeping since his arrival, his language has gotten worse in certain situations. His father would be mortified.

Kekkai and You - PERMISSIONS

Yoshimori is a kekkaishi, a "barrier master" who uses spiritual barriers created with his mind to trap ayakashi and exorcise them, sending them to the afterlife. Gods and demons can sense that he's got special powers. In his canon, many gods and spirits seem drawn to him for his interesting and friendly nature, as well as his pure heart. Rather than pure in a "holy" or angelic power in a Western religious sense, Yoshimori is neither black nor white, neither holy nor evil, and will feel to your character like a pure, innocent human. He is said in his canon to have the best qualities of what draw the gods to humans: unpredictability and creativity. This makes the god of Karasumori want to sympathize with him. He befriends the gods by helping them out with things they need and they help him in return.

If you have a character who is a god, demon, or angel; or someone with a spiritual power, you have permission to be able to tell that Yoshimori is different when you meet him in person. He probably seems to have something about him that's a little unusual or may remind them of something from long ago. Gods and demons can likely see his pure nature, as well as his power level (IT'S OVER 9000!). They may find themselves wanting to be around him.

One very powerful fox goddess is drawn to him when they get close. She touches his mind and is very interested to feel that he is a "destroyer," but she also senses that his power "could be used for much more." If you are able to get close enough to him to touch him or get psychically connected with him, you are able to see that he has the capacity to channel immense power, and the possibility that this power could be used to destroy or create chaos, or something else that you're not sure about-- this is why Karasumori likes him apparently. For this level of knowledge, please talk with me first.

You have permission to see Yoshimori's kekkai (the barrier that he uses) if you fall under these categories:

1. You are immortal with a spiritual or divine power. A god or deity, demon, mazoku, youkai, ayakashi, angel, ghost or half-ghost, shinigami or shinigami substitute, immortal being of some sort such as a Nobody, Keyblade Master, or Replica.

Permissioned people in this category off the top of my head: Ammy, Aphrodite, Ashura, Aziraphale, Barry, Bleach shinigami, Botan, Crowley, Fai, Fuuma, Gin Uingu, Hakkai, Hiei, Kurama, Polly, Ran Yakumo, Shishiwakamaru, Wolfram, Youmu, Roxas, Xion, Namine.

2. You are a human who uses magic or abilities related to the above field, such as a monk with spiritual powers, priest/priestess, onmyouji, exorcist, or spirit detective, especially if it's to hunt ghosts and demons. Persona users, Genkaku, Ishida Uryuu, Lenalee and other DGM exorcists, Urameshi Yusuke.

3. You are a Naruto character with the ability to see through chakra or jutsu, or someone similar. Please let me know if you are in this category. So far: Kakashi, idk about others?

4. Persona users?

5. You are a Gintama character and exist outside of a fourth wall

People who would not be permissioned:

X: normal RPG-type magic users, such as Avatar TLA users, Tales characters, or a person like, let's say, Fuu from Rayearth. They can use magic, yes, but it's elemental magic, attack magic, or healing magic, not religious things. Does this make sense?

X: Since Yoshimori's barrier is different from say, chi flow, I'm guessing someone like Ling, Mei, and Ran Fan from FMA who can see or sense chi or ki cannot see this power, since in Yoshimori's verse that's treated a bit differently.

X: Hetalia countries except... possibly Japan (Yoshimori's homeland) or England (he can see supernatural things right?). Ask me first.

NOW I need your help with the rest.

If I have not named you here, please tag here and let's talk why not.

A few details have changed as time has gone by.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Yoshimori is the 22nd kekkaishi (literally, "barrier master") of the Sumimura clan. In general, Kekkaishi protect the balance between humans and the supernatural. They protect the world of living humans by exorcising dangerous ghosts and demons, and they protect holy land, gods, and sources of energy from being tainted by human or hostile supernatural influences.

Yoshimori and his partner Tokine guard a plot of very powerful holy land called Karasumori. Ayakashi (demons, monsters, and evil spirits) try to absorb the spiritual power that Karasumori emits in order to become stronger and conquer other gods or harm humans. The kekkaishi's job at Karasumori is to fight against anyone trying to misuse the power of Karasumori using spiritual barriers and send the defeated entities to the afterlife. Kekkaishi utilize a technique called Hazama-ryu kekkai-jutsu, which makes use of various techniques controlled by incantation words and a mudra (hand position). Yoshimori's jutsu are described in detail here.

At first in canon, Yoshimori and Tokine mostly fight against ghosts and demons trying to misuse Karasumori's spiritual power, but as the plot thickens, they find that someone mysterious is hunting and collecting the power of holy lands all over Japan (referred to as "shinyuchi-gari" or holy land hunting). Humans are also, by forbidden means, able to use the power of the gods to become immortal themselves. It seems that the Kekkaishi are not just for battling ayakashi at Karasumori to protect humans from ayakashi, but also to protect the gods from humans trying to misuse them; keeping the balance between humans and gods and making sure both stay in their proper places.

In general, the most frequently used part of kekkai-jutsu is the creation of kekkai, or barriers. With a quick series of verbal commands and gestures, Yoshimori can use his spiritual power to make a small barrier around his fingers (houi), toss it out around a target (jouso), lift it to create walls and close the target in a box (ketsu), and then collapse the kekkai, destroying the contents (metsu). Kekkaishi carry a shakujo, a special staff which has a ring in it. After destroying an ayakashi with a kekkai, the command tenketsu opens a door in the shakujo ring, and the demon is sucked out of the human world to prevent it from regenerating. Yoshimori calls his shakujo "Tenketsu" in canon.

A kekkai is like a box of light which is invisible to those people who do not have spiritual powers. It can be made large or tiny, flexible or rigid according to the user's will, ability, and frame of mind. In addition, a well-placed kekkai makes a good place to stand in mid-air. It can be controlled with the mind and dragged in a linear fashion to hit something or someone. A kekkai can be used as a defensive shield as well. However, if the user is not able to concentrate, the kekkai will be weak and sloppy, and a very powerful monster may be able to break out if the monster is much stronger spiritually than the kekkaishi performing the jutsu is.

At the point Yoshimori is taken from canon, he is in training to produce a technique called "musou" ("blank mind") in which his mind will be completely clear and neutral, uninfluenced or distracted by anything from the outside. When he achieves this perfect "musou" state of nothingness, he will be able to call forth a bunshin (part of himself) to be his partner. This bunshin can take any sort of shape, and he still does not know what it will be. The outcome might be dangerous if his heart is swayed too much by any one thing. Without the support of Shimano training him, or his grandpa looking out for him, or Kagemiya Sen watching over him, or Tokine or his brother to keep him in check, he might be in trouble.

Appearance: Yoshimori is a stocky boy of medium height. His hair can best be described as a black mop. He has pale skin, a big goofy smile and wide, expressive dark eyes. When he gets angry, upset, or embarrassed, you will know right away, because Yoshimori is terrible at hiding his moods. He trains very hard every day and as such, he has built a decent amount of muscle tone. He has always been on the reckless side, and nightly fighting with demons and monsters since he was a small child have resulted in an accumulation of battle scars on his person, even though he is only 15.

Yoshimori is usually seen wearing casual clothes when not at school. Comfort is what's most important to him. He dresses like a slob, favoring holey jeans, track pants and sweatshirts over anything else. When not on duty as a kekkaishi, he will be wearing white bandages around his right hand to hide the houin-- a black square mark on the palm of his hand, which is the proof that he is the legitimate successor to the Sumimura clan. While performing his duty as a kekkaishi, he is required to wear a black kimono and hakama marked with his family's crest, and purple arm guards. However, Yoshimori (being a stubborn kid) has added his own twists to his kekkaishi wear. He habitually refuses to wear the traditional straw sandals with his kekkaishi robes, and opts for running shoes instead for ease of movement. He also is usually wearing his backpack, in which he carries around first-aid items, snacks, food he's made for people, comic books, and other supplies.

Background/Personality:

Yoshimori is, to be brutally honest, a bit of a loser. His appearance is a little sloppy-- his hair is an absolute mop and he prefers wearing sweats and sneakers to anything else. He values practicality and efficiency over tradition, for instance, he insists on wearing sneakers instead of zori with his family's traditional kimono and hakama. In school he tended to sleep through or cut classes that didn't interest him.

The thing is is that Yoshimori has a secret. He is a student during the day just like other kids his age, but at night, he fights ayakashi (demons which are invisible to normal people). Together with his neighbor and rival/love interest Yukimura Tokine, Yoshimori patrols the grounds of Karasumori-- a site which emits a great deal of spiritual energy due to a mysterious object which is buried far below the earth (we are not told yet what that might be). Ayakashi are attracted by the spiritual energy the site gives off and come to feed on that power and become bigger and more powerful. As a kekkaishi and as the chosen successor of his clan, Yoshimori's duty is to pick off and exorcise those ayakashi before they absorb enough power to cause trouble in the human world.

Yoshimori has been working as a kekkaishi at night since a very young age, and he has never enjoyed it much. He would much rather be at home sleeping, or pursuing his hobby, baking desserts. However, a traumatic experience in which his partner Tokine was seriously injured protecting him has had a deep impact on his life. Yoshimori fears that if he does not get stronger, he will cause more pain and danger for the people around him. Because of this, he becomes fiercely motivated to work harder to become a better kekkaishi and protect his loved ones. In addition, a close friend of his is killed protecting Karasumori from evil forces who seek to use the dark power the land emits for no-good purposes. After losing his friend in a battle over control of Karasumori, Yoshimori has had enough. His goal is to find a way to seal whatever evil entity or god lies beneath the land, so that evil beings won't be attracted to the land and therefore won't trouble anyone anymore.

Yoshimori's ability to channel spiritual energy is wildly higher than the other kekkaishi in his family. Because of his pure and sincere nature, his kekkai and zekkai abilities are greatly enhanced by the will of spiritual beings around him. When he is in the domain of a tochi-gami (god or very strong spiritual being which has taken over an area of land as its domain/home), if the god lends Yoshimori power, his techniques can be amazingly strong if his protective feelings or anger is ignited. However, people often comment that Yoshimori's overly gentle and easygoing nature makes it very difficult for him to make really tough decisions. If he has his way, he wants to make sure no one gets hurt.

Yoshimori has a lot of energy but finds it difficult to channel. He hates thinking about difficult or complex issues, tending to act first and think later. If he can't figure out how to do something, he'll make up his own method-- for instance, when he is being instructed to knit a spirit barrier with his nen-shi (spirit thread) by winding the thread of energy around and around him in a spiral, he gets impatient with the tedious task and just spins in a circle as fast as he can, twirling like a retarded ballerina. He's stubborn. It's very hard to make him change his mind once it's set. He's clueless when it comes to girls and rather pure-minded (he's often shocked at his male classmates when he overhears them talking about boobs or sex). Yoshimori has a hard time talking about his personal feelings. He's had a major crush on his childhood friend Tokine as long as he can remember, but he's never been able to admit to himself that he has feelings for her.

His redeeming qualities (other than his cooking skills) are his honesty, creativity, and willingness to help and protect others. He is often accused by his clan members of being too naive and gentle, or for having a worldview that is too simple. He withholds judgement on others even to a fault, royally pissing off those around him who think he associates with dangerous people. His emotions are easily swayed by those in need. He has been called too pure, too soft, too stupid, and too nice by many people around him. He does not have much use for traditions that don't serve him well: he thinks that the older generations of his clan are complete idiots for holding onto traditions that don't make sense, such as the feud between the Sumimura and Yukimura families.

Guess what? I got a job. My first part-time job ever! And guess what!

I'm now an assistant baker in the school cafeteria. What are the odds of that happening?! I was sure I'd get stuck doing dishes but, the cook there asked me some questions and I guess I answered them right. Anyway, today I helped make carrot cake for 2,000 people. TWO THOUSAND PEOPLE! Do you know how much frosting it takes to frost 2,000 squares of cake!? You don't, do you? IT IS A LOT, let me tell you. We mixed it up in this gigantic mixer. Oh my god, I have got to get me one of those. *drools*

Anyway, yeah. Got a job, doing somethin' I like, and it pays well. And I get free food. I'm gonna have to make sure to go jogging or something so I don't get a freshman 15. o_o

All right! This year is going to be soooooo awesome!!!!!!

--Yoshimori

[Private: I just wish Tokine were here to see me working. ;_; It feels a little lonely that I've made a big step and she isn't here to see it.]

Maybe it'll be a good "in" and I can learn some new things that you can't really learn from books. Who knows?

In other news... I have a bed.
