Frequently Asked Questions

Usage & Limits

Free users are blocked after reaching the monthly limit of 1,000 API calls. To prevent complete disruption, we grant 20 bonus API calls each day while you're blocked. These bonus calls continue daily until the month resets. Upgrade to Pro for uninterrupted access with higher limits.
Pro users are never blocked. Once you exceed your included 5,000 API calls per seat, additional usage is billed at $10 per 1,000 calls. You can monitor your usage and billing in the dashboard.
Each team member has their own 5,000 API call allocation. Limits are per seat, not shared across the team. For example, if one member uses 6,000 calls while another uses none, 1,000 excess calls are billed — the unused allocation from other seats does not carry over.

Pricing & Plans

The Free plan includes access to public repositories, basic access control, and 1,000 API calls per month. It's perfect for individual developers who do not need private repositories or team collaboration.
Pro plan costs $10 per seat per month. Each team member counts as a seat, and you're billed based on the number of members in your team. You get 5,000 free API calls per seat per month, then $10 per 1,000 additional calls. Parsing private repositories is charged separately.
Parsing private repositories is charged $15 per 1M tokens. This charge applies when you add a new private repository or refresh an existing one. The cached pages (while refreshing private repositories) are free.
No, private repositories are only available on Pro and Enterprise plans. You'll need to upgrade to a paid plan to work with private repositories and collaborate with your team.
Enterprise plans include additional features like SOC-2 compliance, SSO (Single Sign-On), custom limits and on-premise deployments. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.
Enterprise pricing is customized based on your specific needs and usage requirements. Please contact us at context7@upstash.com to discuss pricing and features.
Yes, you can downgrade to the Free plan at any time. You will be charged a pro-rated amount for the days of your current billing period.
To downgrade, you must first delete any teams you own and all private repositories in your personal team. Once done, you can switch to the Free plan on the plans page.

Security & Privacy

When you use Context7, only the documentation lookup query (e.g., 'how to use useState in React') and library name are sent to our servers — not your code, conversation history, or sensitive data. The LLM is instructed to never include private information like API keys, passwords, or proprietary code in these lookups. Your actual codebase and full prompts remain with your LLM provider.
We follow several processes to ensure safety: We run an LLM-based model to detect injection attempts before storing code and documentation chunks. We assign a trust score to repository organizations, which helps MCP clients (LLMs) choose safer projects. We allow users to filter trusted libraries by organization and repository.
We are part of Upstash Inc. a Silicon Valley based company with many enterprise customers. We apply the same security practices to Context7 as we do to our other products. You can review our certifications and practices on our Trust page.
