Love

An excerpt from Rev. Emily Gage's reflection on love . . . Love is welcoming in and accepting and then from that, creating the safe and courageous container from which to grow. There’s this great quote from Annie Lamott that I always think of where she says: “Once an old woman at my church said the secret is that God loves us exactly the way we are and that he loves us too much to let us stay like this, and I’m just trying to trust that.” I might not exactly use that language, but yes, this idea is what I mean when I think of the best kind of love.

At Unity Temple, we engage in theme-based ministry where we explore a theme in depth over the course of the month through worship, small groups, and personal exploration. At the beginning of each month, we share a packet on the theme with spiritual exercises and questions as well as quotes, movies, podcasts and books.

You are welcome to use this for your own spiritual deepening, and you are welcome to join a Soul Connections group. Soul Connections groups are a twelve month commitment with monthly meetings in which members share their experiences around the theme. The groups provide an uninterrupted listening presence and are a great way to build relationships and receive real nourishment for the journey. We are looking for leaders who would like to facilitate a Soul Connections group, with new groups starting in the fall. Also, Please reach out if you'd like to join a group. Most opportunities, either on Zoom or in-person, involve joining an ongoing group. If you are interested, email us at
