Project Manager Irene Armstrong had the opportunity to join our Program Director Amanda Brenner-Cannon on September 24 for the Resource Conservation Districts Santa Cruz Mountains RPP Workshop #2. This workshop provided a valuable platform to connect with our regional partners and gain insights into various planning efforts taking place within our geography. Engaging in this collaborative environment helps enhance our understanding and coordination for future projects.

Project Updates for Forest Health Grant Second Collaboration

We recently held a bid walk at Lupin Lodge and Aldercroft Heights, visiting three important sites. Contractors showed great interest and asked many good questions. We appreciated the insights from Charles Kuo of Lupin Lodge, Sarah Johnston of Aldercroft Heights, and foresters David Van Lennep and Heath Hooper from Auten Resource Consulting. The Aldercroft FireWise Treatments cover 25.0 acres, while the Lupin Lodge Treatment covers 11.0 acres. Overall, it was a productive day that energized everyone for the upcoming projects!

We held a productive project planning meeting with the team to discuss both short-term and long-term goals for each grant. Here’s a team photo featuring representatives from Santa Clara County FireSafe Council, San Jose Water Company, Midpen Regional Open Space District, Santa Clara County Parks, Auten Resource Consulting, Ascent Environmental, Lupin Lodge, and Aldercroft Heights. It’s great to see everyone working together towards our common objectives!

Check out field photos showcasing our project areas and equipment that the Forest Health team has been utilizing. These photos were taken in Santa Clara County Parks, featuring a track chipper in action.

To implement forest health treatments on approximately 1778 acres of strategically identified areas, The Santa Clara County Firesafe Council has partnered with the San Jose Water Company, Santa Clara County Parks, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and smaller, private landowners, to form the Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaboration.

The Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaborative Forest Health Grant is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.
