A deeply American story about the legacy of mass incarceration. Kristal Bush, who has watched nearly every man in her life disappear into prison, channels her struggle into reuniting other Philadelphia families divided by the correctional system.
The filmmaking team behind the award-winning documentary, A Woman on the Outside, Women Make Movies, and Docuseek invite you to an empowering virtual conversation on October 10, 2024 at 6:30PM EST exploring the vital theme of self-care and joy for Black women in today's society. In this moving documentary, we watch Kristal Bush learn to care for herself while caring for others. Drawing inspiration from Kristal, as well as Janie Crawford’s lifelong quest for solace in Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God and April D. Ryan’s reflections on turning trauma into triumph in Black Women Will Save the World, our panelists will engage in a roundtable discussion about the importance of standing behind Black women who are uplifting their families, communities and the nation.
