The history of the Race to the Clouds has been shaped by remarkable women who challenged expectations and left their mark on Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain. From June 5–30, the Manitou Springs Heritage Museum celebrates their contributions with its new exhibit, Women of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Visitors can discover the stories of pioneering competitors such as Joyce Thompson Ford (left), Terry Ives, and Michèle Mouton (right), while learning how this generation of racers, including Loni Unser and Laura Hayes, continues to build on that legacy. Featuring historic photographs, race artifacts, PPIHC video footage, and even an authentic 1922 race car, the exhibit offers a fascinating look at the women who have helped define more than a century of Hill Climb history.
The free exhibit opens June 5 with live music by Ophelia’s Fate and refreshments beginning at 6 p.m.
