A film by Swen de Pauw
"With A SENSE OF JUSTICE, Swen de Pauw takes an attentive and generous look at this brave little troop of women on the frontline."
Marseille International Film Festival
Maîtres Christine Mengus, Nohra Boukara and Audrey Scarinoff put their hearts and souls into defending immigrants in France. As firsthand witnesses to the absurd situations in which their clients find themselves, in their hands lies the fate of women, men and children, whose lives hang on these judicial decisions. As allies against the coldness of the administration and the stiffness of the justice system, these women are for many, the lawyers of the last chance.

In a new investigation into institutions, A Sense of Justice, immerses us in a law firm where Christine Mengus and Nohra Boukara specialize in the rights of foreigners, supported by Audrey Scarinoff and their co-workers. Stories from their sad, appalling or tragicomic cases alternate with their daily legal work. As we hear snatches of consultations involving illegal entry or departure, deportation orders, the right to reside or medical assistance, we become witnesses to predictable tragedies, to the administrative or social precariousness induced by such predicaments, and to whole lives depending on court rulings. Implicitly, we discover the illogical contingencies of the inner workings of justice and verdicts, like so many labyrinths for foreigners to get lost into.
