"Digs deep into complex racial and class dynamics."
The Guardian
The Black Mambas are South Africa‘s first all-female anti-poaching unit at Greater Kruger Park, chosen by the white and male-dominated conservation authorities. Their fight against poaching challenges the role of women (and men) in their communities and South African society at large.

Black Mambas portrays three women—Nkateko, Qolile and Naledi—who seized this opportunity to change their lives and situations. Nkateko sees the position as a first step for her career; Qolile trains anti-poaching dogs to support her family while her husband looks for work; and Naledi is an idealist who sees the Black Mambas as the pinnacle of female empowerment. These women stand at the crossroads of the country’s forward progress and its colonial past.

To the 3 million people living in mostly Black communities at the borders of Greater Kruger, who have traditionally been excluded from the Park, conservation remains the privilege of “old white men”. To the three women in the film, the limiting effects and powerful dynamics of post-colonialism mentality challenge them daily, and the current pandemic situation has only intensified the existing tensions along the fence lines.
