North Dakota officially holds the lowest rate of frequent mental distress reported by adults among states, according to the most recent data in 2024. Although the statewide data looks positive, the view from the ground reveals that progress isn't shared equally. A closer look shows disparities for younger adults, women, and those adults in lower-income households. These demographic groups continue to report disproportionately higher levels of frequent mental health distress rates than their counterparts.
