This is the story of “Bart.”
Bart has been a podrishioner for quite some time, and he is utilizing BEMA as he works through his Herodian lifestyle and zealous nature. He has been inspired to use his professional skills to engage in what God is doing with his neighbors.
He is an experienced chef and knows a few things about cooking a great meal for large groups. Bart wanted to walk out the teachings of radical hospitality as we see with Rebecca, or the celebrations and parties as outlined in Leviticus. He worked with his local church, wanting to use his tithe to throw a party for his neighbors in his apartment complex.
After he received assurance that his tithe would be used well in throwing this party for his neighbors, he rented tables and chairs and he was off to the races. Bart made a huge breakfast party for his literal neighbors.
Many of his neighbors are fellow believers in different congregations, but others barely speak English and this meal opened doors to encourage them. Everyone found something to be grateful for in the delicious breakfast spread they provided, and people would not stop thanking Bart and his wife.
One neighbor had recently made a large step in sobriety after a 45-year struggle. This neighbor had also become open to God because of the way Bart and others acted and discussed their faith, and now he was interested in hearing more.
God prompted Bart to use the tools he had acquired professionally and through life experience. Bart used those tools in conjunction with the principles God laid out in His word. And now Bart has better relationships with his neighbors, plus the opportunity to see God working in a man who is finding hope in Jesus for the first time.
