R2 FACILITY NEWSLETTER I JANUARY 2023

FEATURE STORY:

AVOID THIS COMMON MISTAKE

WHEN TRANSITIONING TO R2v3

As we approach the deadline for transitioning to R2v3, we want to continue sharing helpful information so that facilities can avoid common missteps that can lead to nonconformances (NCs) and possibly a delay in receiving their R2v3 certificate.

One common area of misunderstanding is in Appendix A. It is important to note the difference between two very important aspects of Appendix A: Transparency vs. Downstream Vendor Qualifications. We are seeing facilities qualify their downstream vendors, but then not complete the requirements for Transparency. Both of these requirements must be satisfied in the transition process.

A HELPFUL R2v3 REMINDER

FROM THE R2 DIRECTOR:

Remember, Core 6(e)(2)(A) requires a facility to "Identify and disclose the appropriate REC, or equivalent correlated internal categories, for Functioning Product, Data Sanitization Status, and either the Cosmetic Condition or provide other detailed description of the cosmetic conditions of the equipment or components to the buyer..."

TRAINING VIDEO: BUILDING AN INTERNAL AUDIT PROGRAM PART 2 - LEGAL COMPLIANCE AUDIT

We have released the second module in our Building an Internal Audit program. The Legal Compliance Audit is specific to the legal requirements applicable to each R2 Facility. The requirement for this internal audit is found in Core Requirement 4(d)(3).

THE BENEFIT OF USING AN R2v3 DOWNSTREAM VENDOR

In R2v3, using R2v3 Certified downstream vendors significantly reduces the requirements to qualify a downstream vendor and track the downstream recycling chain. It relies on the auditing and certification of the downstream vendor by an independent SERI Authorized Certification Body. As an R2v3 Certified downstream vendor, this also reduces the resources needed to provide due diligence information to upstream suppliers. Just one way that R2v3 saves time and money for both upstream suppliers and downstream vendors.
