I grew up with books. My parents' five hundred square foot apartment was practically covered with books. I had more than 500 books by I turned 10. I didn't have an allowance, I had a book allotment.
I still love books and my entire family does. But I've been reading more e-books than real books lately and that got me thinking.
If I visit someone, the first thing I look at is their bookshelf. With the proliferation of e-books, what will we have on our walls? How will we share books with our friends? Where will we smell old books?
moominmolly asks why the world doesn't have a meme where everyone leaves screened comments with what they want to say to to the poster but haven't yet for whatever reason -- and I say, I haven't been hanging out with you to HAVE any questions for me!
Last night we watched a phenomenally over-the-top Bollywood action-dancing-musical-drama-comedy titled Dhoom 2. It was like watching about twenty different movies rolled in one - with quite a few smoldering dance numbers.
If you ever wanted to get together with friends and comment and laugh for three hours about a movie, this is it. MST3K fodder for our generation.
"Tonight I have five questions. 1. How to make a bed, 2. How to make a mattress, 3. How to make a blanket, 4. How to make a wall, 5. How to make a doll."
Conversation ensues
"...so to make a doll, you first draw the front and the back, Then you cut it out of fabric, Then you stuff it." - "but I have a hard time drawing because I can't draw a straight line!" - "me neither, that s why I use a ruler." - "yeah-i use straight edges all the time."
Costco has optometrist offices and they do NOT require a Costco membership to visit! I just paid $55 for my checkup and new prescription.

Optometrist said my eyes are light so I should start wearing sunglasses in the summer.
Someone on LJ posted about a blog dedicated to cheap online eyeglass retailers, it was http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com/ There seem to be dozens of cheap online retailers where one can get prescription glasses for 10+ dollars... Reviews are positive, although one gets what they pay for.
In somewhat related news, the iphone game Zen Bound, where one has to tie up objects with a rope (it's beautiful) is free, at http://itunes.apple.com/app/id400670361
- "Do you have any questions?" - "Yes, actually, I have five questions." - "Okay..." - "First: What does love do?" "Second: How is flour made?" "Third: What does 'sleep tight' mean?" "Fourth: How do light bulbs work?" "Fifth: How are bowls made?" - "..."
Saturday night S called me from her bus. I didn't notice anything peculiar, but I did recall that her phone was stolen so when she arrived I asked if she borrowed someones phone?
She said no, she called my phone via google talk using greyhounds free wifi.
- "Daddy I see a falling star! TWO falling stars!" - "That means you can wish for something." - "Okay, then I wish that 1. Nobody would be angry at me 2. Nobody would tell me things that I don't like."
