ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

The Department of Computer Science is among the six (6) department in the Faculty of Science. It is specialized in teaching, research, outreach, and consultancy in computing. Currently, the department offers one diploma program, three bachelor’s program, and two masters programs.

The department also offers service teaching in computer related areas to other departments across the university. In research the department engages in networking, computer security, data science and artificial intelligence.

As Information and Communication Technology (ICT) continues to evolve rapidly, it creates new opportunities and challenges. The discipline is thus very dynamic as areas formally thought not possible to apply computer technology continue to provide new opportunities. These two issues create insatiable global demand for human resources to work in academia, and in Information and Communication Technology industry.

The Department of Computer Science has taken these problems as a challenge and thus is continuously revising its curriculum and also introduces new programs that will address the evolving academic and industry needs, as well as integrating academic and professional training in her programs.
