Image Optimization: Include/Exclude Folders

Jan 1, 2026 | Docs

Choose exactly where CompressX Pro works. Exclude specific Media Library folders to protect original files, or include custom paths within the wp-content folder. These options give you full control over your site’s optimization targets.

Exclude Folders

Select specific folders within your WordPress Media Library to exclude from the optimization process. This is useful for protecting original assets or skipping directories that do not require next-gen conversion.

Exclude Folders

Configuration

  • Media Library (Uploads) Tree
Browse your standard WordPress uploads directory. You can navigate through year and month subfolders (e.g., 2025/12) to find specific groups of images.
  • Excluded Folders
This list displays all paths where media files will NOT be processed. Click the minus (–) icon next to a path to remove the exclusion.
Tip
1. To exclude a folder, simply find it in the Media Library tree and click the plus (+) icon. This ensures that those specific images remain untouched during bulk optimization cycles.
2. Click the Save Changes button after modifying your folder exclusions to ensure the scanner updates its directory map correctly.

Custom Folders

Optimize images found outside the standard Media Library. This includes theme assets, plugin folders, and custom paths located in the wp-content folder.

Include Custom Folders

Options

  • Browse folders in wp-content tree
Use the interactive directory tree to explore folders within your /wp-content directory, including themes, plugins, and other folders. Click the plus (+) icon to add a folder to your optimization queue.
  • Manage Included Folders
This section displays all custom paths currently targeted for processing. To remove a directory and stop optimizing its contents, simply click the minus (–) icon next to the path.
  • Bulk Process Now
Triggers an immediate optimization for all images found within the selected custom directories.
  • Force all images to be re-processed:
This is optional. Enable it to ignore previous optimization records and process every image in the selected custom folders again.
Note
The interface displays real-time statistics for custom folders, including Media Files Found, Processed Media Files, and Total Savings, allowing you to track the efficiency of your custom optimization tasks.
