Mpv is a movie player based on MPlayer and mplayer2. It supports a wide variety
of video file formats, audio and video codecs, and subtitle types. Special
input URL types are available to read input from a variety of sources other
than disk files. Depending on platform, a variety of different video and audio
output methods are supported.

  • Flatpak: mpv_inhibit_gnome is included which prevents screen blanking in GNOME while playing media
  • Flatpak: mpv scripts needs write access. Use flatseal app to set home or host write permission

When opening from menu, the software launched but can't play any videos

Despite all the configuration being just as the description suggests, including write access, the player can be launched, but doesn't play videos, and requires xkill to be stopped. avoid at all costs, install system version, or build your own from master.
