  • Halt the system:
    halt
  • Power off the system (same as `poweroff`):
    halt --poweroff
  • Reboot the system (same as `reboot`):
    halt --reboot
  • Halt immediately without contacting the system manager:
    halt --force
  • Write the wtmp shutdown entry without halting the system:
    halt --wtmp-only
