Stuff, Stuff, and Avengers Review!

So, in traditional fashion, I got really excited about being back, made new friends and... then fell off the horse. But look, I am astride once more!

Random Stuff:

Sorry for being gone? I have been working a lot, trying to get things done, blah blah. The love of my life broke my heart a few days ago, so you can imagine that's going well. What's all the love in my heart and five years together? *moving on...*

So, like, the Avengers?! Here is my review! Because I like to be considerate, it is all cut and stuff.

So, the Avengers!! AKA, The Marvel Movie Event of The Everything

Thoughts going into the movie: We saw the 3D version, which was a little painful on my eyes. I think it is because I have bad eyes. Also, I'm not sure that 3D adds anything super great, except for the chance to pretend that Chris Evans' Steve Rogers is touchable (and okay, that is kind of super great). But I think it would be just as amazing in 2D, so there you go.

Also, as I mentioned, the love of my life decimated my heart. Basically, he pulled a Regina (from OUAT, yes?) and squished it so hard it turned into dust. But let's not get into that. Just noting that it affected my mood, which would have otherwise been so high it could've been sitting on some stars.

The Story/Writing: I loved the story. Joss makes everything better. EVERYTHING. I read an article about how Joss had to pull some of his voice out of the movie, which you can kind of tell, but you could still see him in it. The humor was very sharp, and somehow everyone was just perfectly balanced. I think the thing that seemed most tuned down to me was Joss' usual brand of cynicism, since I think there was a very powerful sense of optimism (but he did fit in it, a bit, didn't he - what with Fury's supervisors). But that's okay; this was a feel good movie and you could really FEEL GOOD about it.

The characters: Goodness, gracious, they were so amazing. I was so ready to hate Mark. I mean, I actually loved Edward's Hulk, I love that movie, and I didn't like the idea of Mark replacing him at all! But, while I didn't necessarily think he played the part better, it didn't really preoccupy my thoughts, so I know that it was still a good job. Thor was amazing, sort of becoming more Thor-like, but also infinitely more likable than the Thor of comics. He's a Thor you can Root For! ... Iron Man was just. Spot. On. And really, given a chance to be kind of multifaceted, which I really appreciated. The Pepper cameo was nice, too. I loved Black Widow (even though she was played by ScarJo) and Hawkeye (come on, how could you not!) and they had a niiice vibe. And of course, if there was anyone I loved Most of All, I have to say it was Steve.

STEVE.

I think this might be because I was sad, right? And he was just so perfect. Like, okay: let's be real. He was hot. Like, dang. But it was his whole... everything... that really got me. He just seemed so wholesome. That moment where he's getting ready to join the whole Iron Man/Thor/Loki shebang, and she's like, maybe you should sit this one out, they're basically gods. And he was all goodness, "there's only one God, Ma'am, and he doesn't dress like that." He is just. The man I need every man to be right now. AMAZING.

And Loki was so excellent. Kind of broken, pretty hot, sort of snarky. Very, very nice.

The Death of Phil: What Joss anything would be complete without a death? And Phil, I thought, was a particularly sad touch because he has been such a presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man. He's sort of like a linchpin, linking them. We know him, we love him, and we lost him! But we still love him.

Other Notable Things I Can Remember:

Was this movie not insanely EPIC. Like, we use that word a lot in fandom, but still. There were some moments that were just amazing. Like when Mjolnir hit Captain America's shield and it was just. Wow. (That almost sounds dirty... :P) Or when Thor is using like. The Empire State Building as a conductor?

THANOS. So, when I was watching and the Other was all to attack earth would be to court Death. And I was like "OH EM GEE, GUYS, IT'S THANOS HE'S INTO THAT." And then I was like, UNLESS DEADPOOL WINS HER FIRST.

And then people in the audience looked at me weird.

Points of Interest:

1) It is Sunday! Which means Once Upon a Time is on! This may be the highlight of my week. I don't know if that is reasonable or sad. Or maybe both?

2) I think there is thunder outside. That, or someone is playing a timbal outside my window very. very. slowly. Also, I'm so cold!

3) I want to write drabbles. I just don't know what I want to drabble about. Ideas?

What an excellent thursday night. How i missed nbc thursdays. There may be spoilers in my following comments but i cant figure out a cut so...

Community was lovely. And funny and i always forget i love it until i am watching it.

Parks and Rec is probably the sweetest comedy since friends and i love it more every time it is on. Leslie and Ben need to find a way though. FIND A WAY. Because the whole time i was thinking omg, why is Ben so ridiculously adorable?

And i love james spader and wtf the Office, you were playing the unexpected card tonight. Is it weird that i want andy to fail so they dont love him more than michael...?

I secretly want to love Whitney because its a couple romancey comedy but wow. Some really unfunny jokes and auzdience laughter where there shouldnt be... cursed live studio audience.

I have so much tto do. A ton of writing, some for fun and a lot for work. And yet... i am here playing with a color noook or a nook color and...i kind of love it. Reading fanfic on this thimg is so great, and no one knows i am geeking out. Typing is a wee irritatung though. Ah well, cant have everything! Also also, i just realized it has a side texty thing. Niiice.

Leap Year and Food Network Star

I saw Leap Year today; and, I was happy because I have been wanting to see it since forever (I love Amy Adams, you know - as I adore most adorable redheads). And it was cute! It sort of reminded me of The Sure Thing (the 80's classic starring a much beloved, slightly jailbaity John Cusack). Plus there were Irish accents to further charm me.

Not amazing, but definitely cute. I'd watch it again.

Also, omg, Next Food Network Star. WHY DIDN'T VIC WIN.

Anyway... here I am. What's new. I'm almost 30. (I know... when did THAT happen - surely not one year at a time).

I am currently pulling my hair out over True Blood, debating watching Game of Thrones (is it on Netflix?) and routinely exhausted by the slow drum of daily work. ALSO, MADLY in love with Suits (because seriously someone's a trekker and there's an adorable cute redhead and there are men in suits and it is so very much to my taste).

Trying to summon up the courage once again to watch Doctor Who and American!Torchwood.

Reading treklit again this week, because I realized a new Voyager book had come out. Still loving how well Kristin Beyer writes the characters, but growing disenchanted with the large number of new characters. I like new characters, I just don't think a book should be called "Voyager" when the ship is the only thing that's the same. Or maybe that's just me being bitter about the MISSING CHARACTER.

I will be happy when regular tv shows come back.

I will be even happier when I win the lottery and can spend my days sewing and watching movies.

And that is the end. For now.

So still without the internets but trying my best to steal.... er, borrow... a decent connection. Though, in the meantime, it is a pain in the butt to find a way to watch my teevee, making it reeeaaally annoying when I do catch an episode of True Blood and discover that not only is Alan Ball not removing his head from bill's rear but instead appears to be buying curtains. What the what? The man has the most amazing Eric, so much potential awesomeness to draw from, and the bastard can't get over Bill Compton.

Necessarily increasing my Bill!Hate, of course.

Next time, I am downloading the excellent Covert Affairs (making Henry cute again! And of making me want to watch a crossover wherein Henry is unwittingly swept up in a spy case) or the increasingly engaged Haven (which I recommend to all of you who have not seen it, for I find myself ever fonder of this series).

cold_queen_5 linked me to this. Probably because she wanted to make me cry.

Wonder Woman gets an update.

I really dislike that everyone tries to *fix* Diana by changing her up. Tweaking her. Blah, blah, blah. You know what would make the readers be more willing to buy the comics? A good story line, shock of all shocks. Why they concentrate on writing her important, compelling stuff instead of spending their time on her outfit? Which... omg. What part of iconic don't they understand? Hey Big Blue, we're getting tired of that whole "S" thing. I am only comforted in the supposition that this will not last. And will probably lead to an awesome, revisiting of The Costume, ala Whedon's AXM.

But maybe I'm just mad because for a big, unveiling moment, this costume seems kind of lame. I REALLY hope that jacket is not supposed to be denim. And I don't like the colors. And what the hell is up with the choker?

True Blood, Doctor Who and Hello

Greetings and salutations...!

So:

True Blood continues to be somewhat excellent.

The excellent: I love Eric. I love Eric walking Sookie home and calling her Miss. Stackhouse (and on the same night she called him Mr. Northman). I love them flirting, like they can't help but doing. I loved Eric and Layfayette, being so very awesome in a scene together. I love Pam, though she was in short supply this episode. And I loved the Jessica and the Talking Head moment.

I still don't know why we must see Sam's family. Boring, icky, and the man has better stories he could be part of. Just saying.

I'm pretty eh on Tara at the moment (I think she wore me out).

I liked Alcide, though the whole club thing was one scene I wish they'd played closer to the book. For me, Alcide was never so fantastic as he was in Book 3 and he only got worse from here, so I'm hoping that he gets to be wonderful in the series before he gets less wonderful. And why in the world did Sookie think that being all up in everyone's face is the best possible way to find out what she needs? Girl's a telepath! Have a drink and read some minds, girl. It's called subtlety.

I still don't understand why we have so much Bill! And so little torture. Freaking Bill Compton. I was neither very excited for nor very disturbed by the Bill Sex Scene. I was angry, angry because so typically Bill. I hate that he gets the reputation for being the good vampire to Eric's bad vampire, when he's nothing but an abusive bastard. Bill often responds to frustrating situations with violence and then brushes it off like, I couldn't control myself... blah, blah.

Though I think I like Lorena more now.

And then I DID IT. I watched the first three episodes with Eleven.

And... so far, I seem to be alive. I even enjoyed them! This is good. This is very good. I hope to finish season 5 in the next three days.

Doctor Who?

I've been putting off watching Eleven. The changes between Doctors seems to kill me. The Nine-Ten transition was rough, but David was so exceptional. And Rose was still there, and after a pause, I knew that things were all right...! But this, this isn't the same kind of transition. This is something harder, because it's new people and a new take on the show and blargity blarg. As I told cold_queen_5 , I'm not that flexible with fandom!

But then, I think, I made it through like four seasons of sucky ER and season 3-4 of that one JJ show with the girl and the hair and the me being incredibly frustrated, and come to think of it, that other JJ show with the girl and the hair and the me being frustrated, and who knows how many episodes of Heroes that made me want to cry the bad tears...

I've watched a lot of frustrating television, is what I'm saying.
I can watch Eleven. I can. I will! Today!

....maybe.

Oh True Blood S03E02! I desperately need some True Blood icons.

We're still heavy on the Bill this second episode of the season, and it's beginning to settle in that that's not going to change. Stupid Bill. Also, if we're going to keep seeing him like this, I'm going to require a lot more torture.

Jessica and Pam are going to make for an epic vampire/psuedo-maker relationship. By the way, it really got me thinking how much that dead guy is Bill's fault. He didn't teach Jessica how to drink blood at all. He wanted her to subside only on True Blood, but what about when she needed to drink blood? And, hey, Bill said he was subsiding on True Blood alone, but I somehow recall him feeding (on Sookie a lot and others when it suited him). Eric is so devoted to being a good maker, and Bill (despite making noises about being a good guy) couldn't really be bothered to try. I sincerely hope that Jessica is adopted into the Eric and Pam fold, because the girl needs it. And also, Jessica/Hoyt is adorable. He just wants to love her!

Sookie and Eric had lovely scenes. And not just when he was propositioning her. I liked how well they portrayed Eric's confusion about his feelings for Sookie. Like he has emotions and he just doesn't know why. And countered it with Godric's, "don't let your emotions control you". <comment interlude> I love Godric. </comment interlude> Oh Eric. There's no escape for you! Only lots and lots of sex.

Also, also. I love Jason. And Jason in Hot Shot. And, "Santa?"

Good job, True Blood. Good job.
