Help with this colouring, please? :)

Hey guys, I'm new to Livejournal so I hope I'm doing this correctly!

Program I'm using: Paint Shop Pro 7/Photoshop Elements 9 (but I'm fine with any translatable tutorial, as long as there's so selective colour involved)

Example of the coloring I want to learn how to make + credit to the maker:

from here.

A different image I want to color (this is not the original): This photo.

Thanks in advance!

Crisp Bright Coloring Help

Program(+version) I'm using: Adope Photoshop CS4
Example(s) of the coloring I want to learn how to make + credit to the maker: these from lookbook.
A different image I want to color(this is not the original): this or this

Basically I want to learn how to get that crisp & bright type of coloring shown in any of the four thumbnails from the sample. Whenever I try, my version just looks washed out and a bit heavy on the blue side of selective coloring, which is nowhere near as pretty as the fourth one in the picture. (Also, are their faces/skin are airbrushed and smoothened in some way?)

The closest I've gone is this:

It's pretty far off from the crisp light/bright tones in the first 3 samples, which is what I want (not vintage-y pink or yellow or blue tones).
