HERE ARE SOME HALF-ASSED TOP THINGS OF 2013 LISTS WOOOO.

TOP TELEVISION SERIES OF 2013:

10. Some Girls: There were only 6 episodes but wow were they delightful. I would spend hours just watching these characters they are all so endearing.
9. Brooklyn Nine Nine: BEST NEW SHOW BY FAR. I love everyone in this precinct.
8. New Girl: OK TBH i had a really hard time ranking this, because if it was just season 2 I was discussing it would be wayyy higher, but season 3 has sadly been mostly a mess. BUT SEASON 2 MAN. overall that will probably go down as one of my favourite seasons for a comedy, and the 2013 portion of it was especially amazing.
7. Orphan Black: TATIANA MASLANY EVERYONE. But not only was she beyond phenomenal the characters and the plot were interesting too!! Great sci-fi show, good job.
6. Arrested Development: I waited 7 years for this and it did not disappoint for me. Were there some rough patches? YEP. Never really need to see those George Sr. episodes again. But the fourth season also gave us the amazing GOB, Maeby, George-Michael, Lucille and Buster episodes and FakeBlock and The Sound of Silence and when it was good it was SO GREAT.
5. The Good Wife - FLORRICK, AGOS & ASSOCIATES. ENOUGH SAID. 2013 has been a YEAR for this show.
4. Breaking Bad: I don't really know what to say other than holy HELL that was a good final season.
3. Mad Men: CONTROVERSY. most people did not care for this season i guess??? BUT I LOVED IT. I MEAN IT HAD KENNY TAP DANCING, SALLY REALIZING HER DAD IS AN ASS, STAN WITH A BEARD, DON BREAKING DOWN AND GETTING FIRED, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

2. Orange is the New Black: This show has stuck with me like CRAZY. Every time I think back on it I love it even more. Every single character was just so amazing and fleshed out and refreshing. One of the TV critics mentioned it being like a small town show which is the most amazing description and so beautiful to me. And like that's the word I want to constantly use regarding this show: Beautiful.
1. YOUNG JUSTICE: nothing else could ever.

TOP EPISODES OF 2013:

5. Summit - Young Justice: I debated doing this or The Fix, but ultimately, this episode left em SO HAPPY, which is VERY RARE for this show. LOL KILL ME BECAUSE THAT WALLY/ARTEMIS EMBRACE
4. The Cooler - New Girl: The whole episode was great for pretty much all the characters, it had Brenda Song, True americans, and oh YEAh that KISS.
3. The Crash - Mad Men: Honestly, there have been better Mad Men episodes, probably even thsi season BUT THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A MORE WTF EPISODE. STARTING THE EP WITH KEN MAYBE DYING??? EVERYONE JUMPING OVER COUCHES, DON RACING AROUND THE OFFICE, GINSBERG THROWING A KNIFE THING AT STAN, STAN AND PEGGY KISSING, KEN TAP DANCING.
2. Hitting the Fan - The Good Wife: 5 years of emotionally building up to this episode and it was perfect.
1. OZYMANDIAS - Breaking Bad: hands down the best episode of television in 2013. Going in my pantheon of best episodes of ever, right beside The Suitcase.

TOP MOVIES OF 2013:

5. This is the End: I actually didn't watch that many movies this year, but this one for sure gave me the most laughs. ALSO THE ENDING WAS MADE FOR ME.
4. Catching Fire: One of my favourite book to movie adaptations probably. Jennifer Lawrence was dynamite and the movie was so well paced and visually pleasing. JUST REALLY GOOD, and actually gives me hope for Mockingjay
3. Stories We Tell: I think this actually may have come out last year, but I only saw it this year and WOW it was really beautiful and had such an emotional kick. [nvm it's eligible for this years oscars SO IT COUNTS]
2. This is Us: SHUT UP LEAVE ME ALONE, these kids are so endearing and and appreciative and have been ruining my life for what feels like ever but has actually only been about 3 weeks.
1. PACIFIC RIM: I NEVER REALLY THOUGH ABOUT THE FUTURE. UNTIL NOW.

TOP COMICS OF 2013:

5. The Manhattan Projects: SUCH A FUN, DARK, INSANE COMIC.
4. Saga: What a gorgeous, beautiful, wonderful comic.
3. Bad Machinery: So many days looking at the daily strop was the funniest, or more heartfelt moment of my day. This webcomic probably has my favourite friendships of the whole year between all the girls.
2. Morning Glories: The best WHAT THE FUCK moments every month. The plot is crazy addicting and I love the characters. Such a fun read but can also get me really emotional, IE THE FUKAYAMA BROTHERS.
1. Ultimate Comics Spider Man: WOW this really pulled a win late in the game. Literally until yesterday I would have put this behind Morning Glories, but the second Cataclysm came out and i was talking to dudski about how upset I will be if Marvel destroys the Ultimate universe, and it's just THESE CHARACTERS ARE SO IMPORTANT TO ME. Miles, Ganke, Gwen Stacy (clone), Jessica Drew, Ty, Tandy, Lana, Katie Bishop!!! What an amazing amazing cast and Bendis has done such a great job of making me care about all of them even if we're just starting to know them over the past few issues. My comics dream for 2014 is for Young Ultimates to be a thing. HOW GREAT WOULD THAT BE.

TOP COMIC ISSUES OF 2013:

5. Morning Glories 032: The Vanessa issue!! Visually appealing, lots of emotions, crazy parallels and a great WTF ending. What m,ore can you ask for. (But seriously, cry forever about the whole Vanessa/Brendon situation.)

4, 3. The Manhattan Projects 010 and 015: Infinite Oppenheimers. Every issue of this comic is demented but these take an extra step. Seriously read this comic and all the Infinite Oppenheimer issues specifically.

2. Ultimate Comics Spider-Man 025: Basically this issue was full to the brim with heartfelt conversations between all teh characters I love and ended with Miles putting the suit back on. Perfect.

1. Hawkeye 011: AKA PIZZA DOG. wow what an amazing, imaginative, brilliant, beautiful, fun issue. Told entirely from the POV of everyone's favourite canine sidekick, it was visually appealing and different and still moved the story along.

3) IDK I WAS LISTENING TO FIREWALL/ICEBERG BREAKING BAD PODCAST TODAY WHICH OBV BROUGHT UP THE "PANTHEON" SHOWS DISCUSH.
SO HERES MY ARBITRARY RANKINGS OF THE ONES I HAVE SEEN WHICH I WILL STAND BY TIL MY DYING DAY OR UNTIL I CHANGE MY MIND, W/E: 1: THE WIRE 2: MAD MEN 3: BREAKING BAD. SORRY NOT SORRY.

EPISODES VS SEASONS

OK SO i was thinking and started rambling about this on twitter, but i have certain shows that i will look to in full seasons whereas there are other that episodes pop out for me

This probably has a lot more to do with the structure of the story telling than anything else.
Mad Men is a much more episodic show than The Wire and there fore its pretty obvious that Mad Men is an episode show for me and The Wire is firmly a season show.

But then, FNL, which i do think is a bit more episodic, is a more so a season show for me? Like, i can definitely pinpoint certain episodes that are in my pantheon of greats, and i have trouble ranking the seasons other than 2 being the worst, but i do always think of and discuss and compare it in my head as 5 large collections rather than 70 some odd single episodes???

How I Met Your Mother is also an season show for me, whereas Community or IASIP are episode shows.

Young Justice season 1 is an episode season and s2 is a season season IF THAT MAKES ANY FUCKING SENSE.

Freaks and Geeks, oddly, is a season show or a series show if you will, even though i can tell anyone what happens in each of the episodes with very minimal errors. But it just all works together for me as eighteen pieces that fit together to make one perfect whole.

Arrested Development is ALSO a series show for me. Even though i can easily pick out a season and episodes above other i always view it in its entirety??? EXCEPT FOR SEASON 4 which is still new and different that i view as a separate season to the first three combined??

Favourite vs Best (vs Importance)

I have talked about how i love to list before and this is basically gonna all be about that!!! Theyre have always been some troubles for me when ranking Top __ because no matter what there will always be x that is better but i maybe dont KILL MYSELF over like i do y and so how do they rank then??? WHERE DO THEY GO???

This actually particularly plagues me with my movies where i basically only have dramas on my lists?? No matter HOW MUCH i love 60s batman (SHARK REPELLENT BAT SPRAY!!!!!!!) there is no way i could feel right putting it above Eternal Sunshine because it is just BETTER all around. And Up is such a fantastic movie but Fantastic Mr Fox and Finding Nemo make me smile more, and The Lion King was my whole childhood. THESE ARE THINGS I WILL LITERALLY TAKE DAYS MULLING OVER??? (on the other side of this, comedy movies just don't stick as well for me because jokes have diminishing returns after a while. Dramas (or TV comedies) have more characters stuff that will hold me for a lot longer)

TV i've basically just steered clear of this problem by making three separate lists for best, favourite and important. I basically started thinking about this because i'm revisiting Breaking Bad. Everyone knows that is such an amazing and great show. But it will never be my favourite??? I would pick Friday Night Lights over it anytime even though i can say that BB is a much more solid and consistant show! On the other hand, is the fact that mad men and the Wire are the BEST inflating how much they are favourites??? I also have always felt weird not ranking The Simpsons like, #1 in comedies because i grew up on that, it inspired so many of the shows i love today, i can have conversations purely quoting it, and some of the episodes make me laugh, 20 yrs after they aired, like nothing else could! But i just dont... care about it as much as other things??? (and this is where this could spin off into a whole other thing about when things aired, when i was subject to them, later bad seasons tanishing shows etc but i am way too garbage at writing to continue)

IDK this is just a lot of rambling that boils down to me taking lists EXTREMELY serious.

I went to Calgary for two weeks! Visited my friend Jenna! Great times it was!! Her family just bought a cottage in BC so that was the first time for me to that province. Only Saskatchewan and Newfoundland left, FUCK YEAH CANADA TRAVELS*!!!

*excluding all territories.

We had the greatest lemonade ever made at a market in BC. Let me be clear that this is not an exaggeration. The greatest lemonade.

I saw lots of deer, some sheep, a chipmunk and a moose. I was enabled to buy lots of things and dye part of my hair turquoise.

OVERALL VERY FUN TIMES. HERE ARE SOME PICTURES:

ALSO my friend and I mainlined Orange is the New Black, which, SO WONDERFUL. ALL THE LADIES ARE THE BEST. Particularly Red, Miss Claudette, Watson, Nicky, Suzanne, Sophia, Taystee, ETC ETC ETC.

PACIFIC RIM

I SAW IT WHILE JENNA WAS AT WORK ONE DAY* AND THEN I DRAGGED MY STEP DAD TO IT TONIGHT AND STILL SUPER AS GREAT AS EVERYONE IS SCREAMING.
EVERYONE HAS ALREADY SAID EVERYTHING I NEED TO AND MUCH BETTER THAN I COULD, SO ILL JUST SAY A) PLATONIC AHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAH and B) MAKO AND RALEIGH ARE EVERYTHING EVER, INDIVIDUALLY, TOGETHER, WITH GIPSY DANGER. EVERYTHINGGGGGGG.

*also notable for the first movie I saw by myself in theatre. CROSSED OFF MY BUCKET LIST.

Anyways, I got home late last night and was reunited with my cats and also importantly my laptop. After being on an ipad for 2 weeks IT IS SO REFRESHING HAVING A PROPER COMPUTER AGAIN!!!! I CAN TORRENT THINGS AND CTRL F!!!!!!! Also ALSO!! MY DESKTOP HAS BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET AS OF TONIGHT. I HAVEN’T HAD THAT SINCE I MOVED TO THIS NEW HOUSE (which I did not mention on here. Woops. For future archives: HEY I MOVED ABOUT A MONTH AGO!!! ITS SUCKY BUT NOT TERRIBLE. THERES A PEANUT SHOP IN WALKING DISTANCE????) AND I CAME BACK HOME TO MY OFFICE PAINTED AND ARRANGED NICELY THANK YOU MOTHER!!!!!!

FINALLY, after the amazingness of Morning glories this week and Ultimate Comics Spider-man a few weeks back, I’ve started to take note of my fav issues of the year, SO MAYBE IF I KEEP THAT UP THAT COULD BE A THING??? I always love making lists, and end of year stuff is a cool thing but I’m always SO TERRIBLE at following through, so hopefully if I put it out there on the internet enough I will actually do this. FAV ISSUES, FAV COMIC SERIES, FAV SHOWS, FAV EPISODES, FAV MOVIES, ETC!!!! I WILL DO BEAT YOU THIS YEARRRRRR. MAKING PLANS 5 MONTHS IN ADVANCE!!!!!! (holy shit 5 months tho, where did the summer go)

hello during a random dessert

it was my birthday earlier this week, and that was a thing that happened.

i realized i haven't actually celebrated it with friends since I have like 15? so about 7 years ago now???? yeesh. i basically spent the day as i do normally, at home with my mom and cats. IM A PRETTY GR8 22 YR OLD IS WHAT IM SAYING.

i have also been spending the past week avoiding studying for my exams like the plague. an environmental studies final on tuesday, kill me those readings are so boring.

IN NON PERSONAL/BORING NEWS TV AND COMICS ARE THINGS THAT ARE GREAT

I got into morning glories and it is SO AMAZING. like all i want to do with my time is reread and come up with terrible theories and talk about it forever. PLOT IS NOT A THING I AM INTERESTED IN IN COMICS BUT MAN OH MAN. SO GOOD HERE. CRAZY TIME TRAVEL HAPPENINGS!! 8 13!!!! SHADOWS THAT MOVE BY THEMSELVES!! WHO IS DAVID???!! ETC FOREVRRR

while everyone else has been screaming about return of game of thrones i am off in a corner shouting MAD MEN IS BACK!!!!!!!!! thats all i really have to say, it still continues being the greatest. Some random facts about me to getting an idea of who I am:
I own 2 cats. I enjoy spending time at my cottage: swimming, canoeing in the summer. I way prefer winter up there, though. No one else is up and you can walk across the lake and wear stupid snow suits! I used to go camping a lot, but i haven't been in quite a few years now. I am barely socially competent, and terrible at talking to people, so uh, sorry in advance to anyone? Last summer i spent a month in Ecuador for school and had the best experience of my life probably. 2 years ago I went to Iceland for 2 weeks and it was also amazing. I really love travel, but those are the only places that i've really been to other than Florida, and the Caribbean and a few other provinces. My dream is to go to Antarctica one day, but I've kind of resigned myself that that probably wont be happening.
